Lego dock provides home to full assortment of handhelds
engadget.com — It doesn't get much better than when the Lego bricks of our youth meet our gadget stash of today, and while we've seen Lego docks for various devices before, Chris C built himself an all-in-one unit to house his 8252, iPod and DS Lite in plastic digs..

- rainierez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I gotta Digg my own Dock :)
- assum09, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9With all the lego mods and stuff that you see on Digg you think Lego would make you your own custom dock for like $40 bucks or something. Now THAT would be awesome.
- iamjames, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3looks good and well constructed, but i gotta wonder did you already have all those perfectly matching legos? I had a bunch of legos as a kid too but I could have never made something specificially for docking with all matching colors. Did you paint some or do you work for Lego (or have a hook up)?
- rainierez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The great thing is Lego.com has a bunch of bulk block sets you can buy... and they also can do custom bags with just one or two of the blocks you really need.
- scbysnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if you go to a lego store you can buy specific parts you need
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Where the hell can you find a lego store?
- hooksie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Here maybe?

- IndyRobin83, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0This is the coolest dock I've ever seen and want one of my own, will you build me one ? ;)
- boberto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Seriously, I wanna see how he made this. I kind of need one of these.
- tarynme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12With everything I see on here, there's no greater regret I have than giving away my old Legos. :(
- movd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the problem is to have it look this nice you have to get semi colored lego boxes! or buy alot of lego hospitals (the might have lots of white bricks)
- IcyWings8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I wish there were instructions...I would like to build one myself.
- guackfoster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I'm sure its not too complicated, considering its legos.
- assum09, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2@quackfoster
Yah it can't be too complicated i mean c'mon you only making a *****' dock for an iPod or something out of legos.
/sarcasm - fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4You make a box. O man that must be difficult.
- rainierez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Well I can give you a brief run thru. I used a belkin 4 port USB hub and pulled off the USB ports. The phone just had a USB cable so that was easy I just wired that directly to it. Next I pulled apart an Ipod dock I had sitting around and pretty much used it just for the connector. Now I couldn't find anything to power the DS via USB so I just cut the cable that came with it and used it. Then since I had one port still left I used one of the USB ports from a back plate connector to put an external USB port on the side.

- airiox, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24 of the 15 articles on the front page are either gizmodo or engadget , digg has gotta do something about stuffing the ballot box. I come here for articles I haven't read, not ones I read every morning on my daily internet rounds.
- jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7wow - since no one has said it, i guess i must.
one cradle to rule them all... - mahalohead, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I didn't know there was an "indie Lego-hacker ethic."
- creator123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0good
- xstephx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Too bad it it looks so childish/ugly ...
- h4ppymac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I WANT ONE!!
- corvairkid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1For once and for all, THERE IS NO ***** "S" on the end of the word LEGO! It's the same as "sheep" or "moose." The singular is also the plural. In the 22 years I can remember of building with the stuff, I've NEVER seen the word "LEGOS" in any company documentation.

With that out of the way, how long until someone hacks some Technic and Mindstorms together to make a dock that unplugs your device and hands it to you?- SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Understandable, because they always refer to them as "LEGO® bricks". Since it is so hard to find the "®" key, the plural "legos" is substituted. Sorry that you lost sleep over that one.

Open whichever pdf in your preferred language and the last page details the proper way to use their name.
- The LEGO name should always be written in capital letters.
- LEGO must never be used as a generic term or in the plural or possessive pronoun eg. "LEGO's"
- When the LEGO brand name is used as part of a noun, it must never appear on its own. It should always be accompanied by a noun. For example: LEGO set, LEGO products, LEGO group, LEGO play materials, LEGO bricks, LEGO universe, etc.
- The first time the LEGO trademark appears, it should be accompanied by the registration symbol ®.
I had no idea they were quite THAT anal about it but I suppose it is a fairly large trademark. Screw the capitals. Screw the trademark symbol. Can we all just agree that from now on there is no "S"? - dosterm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, they're anal about it because they make their money off their image. You'll find those same advertising directives for almost every company that runs a campaign of any size. (I worked in advertising design... this is standard boilerplate)
What I really wonder about is why the hell you care about the 'S'? I don't think even the most soulless of corporate lackeys would defend this crap outside of the office. - xstephx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1like.. who cares ?
