- ProfChaosOmega, on 11/17/2008, -0/+37Selling my kidney tomorrow.
- chickenloco, on 11/17/2008, -2/+31Extremely fast but also a bit pricey, especially for the entry level model.
- ExRe, on 11/17/2008, -0/+28The prices are not too bad IMO.
But the ram selection is horrible. 1 triple channel set of 3x 2GB sticks costs more than 2 dual channel sets of 2x 2GB sticks.
I doubt I'll move to i7/DDR3 until you can get 3x 2GB sticks for under $100. My Q6600 still has lots of life. - ExRe, on 11/17/2008, -2/+29No, no, Intel just released their new lineup and it performs worse than what they've had out now for a year. /s
- Dylson, on 11/17/2008, -0/+27Nothing can ***** run crysis. NOTHING!
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+22If you're hunting for deals than i7 isn't for you. i7 is the bleeding edge, the motherboards cost 300 bucks minimum and they all require DDR3, and good DDR3 kids are hundreds of dollars as well.
i7 is absolutely awesome if you want the best and are willing to pay for it. Bargain hunting? Notsomuch.
i7 IS however driving the price of socket 775 stuff downward, and 45 nm Core2Quads still overclock like gangbusters. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+20Thank god the Intel Core i7 is back. I was afraid I could not finish building my cyborg robot.
- DeathRay2K, on 11/17/2008, -1/+19You realise that these are all target at the high range, the actual entry level models will be released later, as is usual with Intel releases.
Plus, the Core i7 920 (At $320) is about as fast as the Core 2 QX9770 (At $1950), so I think they're a bargain! - Catch_ME, on 11/17/2008, -0/+14I'm so poor. I'll wait til they are a bit less
- BTConan, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13I'll take two.
- maus56, on 11/17/2008, -1/+14Save your money until summer. Better prices and selections all around.
- BoSuu, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12They really are not THAT expensive. The $320 for a 920 is a reasonable price for the performance and the other two more expensive versions of the i7 are for enthusiasts and are not necessary for a great computer. It is the ddr3 and crazy expensive mobos needed for the i7 that make the price of an i7 system skyrocket.
- DeathRay2K, on 11/17/2008, -0/+11That NewEgg carries new Intel processors is not newsworthy, but that's not really what this is about.
This is about the release of Intel's new processors, and that is newsworthy.
See how thinking makes a difference? - Areign, on 11/17/2008, -3/+14lol he is just confused, its not his fault that he cant even read the description.
oh wait no it is. benologist, its probably a good idea to read about the subject matter which you are commenting on. - BryanJK, on 11/16/2008, -2/+12what's your point?
- DeathRay2K, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8Zarokima, the $320 Core i7 performs about as well as the $1950 Core 2 Extreme QX9770.
You cannot possible argue that it is a downgrade from an E8500, that is ridiculous!
Also, these will not be much of an improvement for gamers, true, but there are many applications that do fully utilise all available processing power, and for those it makes a huge difference. - FoxRacR17, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9so when are the 8 core i7's coming out?
- jon3k, on 11/17/2008, -1/+8Yes and the 8 core CPU with Hyperthreading will show up as 16 CPU's, what's your point? He asked when they 8 core cpus are coming out, not when he can buy a processor with 8 logical cores.
- LeroyJenkems, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7The base model surpasses most of the Core 2 Quad line.
- rowlodge, on 11/17/2008, -3/+9ill wait and see what black friday brings.
- DigitAl56K, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6Intel dropped one of these bad boys off at our office last week. The high-end Core i7 part outpaces my dual Core2 Quad rig by quite a margin (for HD video encoding). The memory bandwidth this platform has in comparison to any consumer system today is just insane.
- jdoo, on 11/17/2008, -4/+10yes but will they run crysis?
- Hegemony, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6I'll be interested to see where the prices end up after the initial offering. I could barely bring myself to blow $200 on an E8400 at the beginning of the year. Over $300 is, I think, out of the question for the entry-level.
- DeathRay2K, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6The Core i7 920 is about as fast as the QX9770 in applications that fully utilise all cores.
- nurbsenvi, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5"slew of vigilant tipsters"
gotta memorize that. - ddgromit, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5MSI X58 is $220
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 ... - darkciti2, on 11/17/2008, -2/+7Why dig him down? It's a valid question. Just because something is newer doesn't mean it's better.
As I recall, the Celeron processor came out as a watered down version of a more serious processor (after) the original. - lazyslacker, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6actually I think it was tomshardware that had some extensively detailed benches posted a few weeks ago and at high resolutions even the i7 965 with triple SLI with nvidia's highest end card Crysis performed relatively poorly. The game just isn't written well so no amount of hardware is going to get it much above 40-60fps at max settings with really high resolutions.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+7I'm really interested in seeing where computer will go from here.
By the end of the Core i7 cycle we'll be seeing computer with 8 core 5+ GHz i7s, with 96 GBs of RAM. (The maximum memory module size of DDR3 is 16 GB, and boards for i7 will have 2x3 slot DIMM banks.)
Running Crysis on full settings 8 times while editing 1080p video in real time while running Windows 7 and still have figurative assloads of power left over. 604k of RAM may not be enough, but I'm betting 96G will be. - lazyslacker, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6Yes, because $300 + $200 + $320 = $1950. Thanks professor.
- trogdor282, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5they're up. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Sub ...
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5Great great chips at great prices. Damn shame the only motherboards are 300 bucks though.
- LaGStAr, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4The Celeron processor also cost less not more.
- fuzzynyanko, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. AMD AM3 is coming out next year. You can use them in AM2 and AM2+ motherboards, as well as AM3 motherboards. As far as performance goes, no idea. At least ATI is doing well, and it should be a sign.
- lazyslacker, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5But it isn't entry level, as many have said. It's the lower end of the enthusiast chips. It'll kick the ass of the entry level chips coming out in a few months, trust me.
- Sabretou, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Anyone know how these compare to AMD Phenoms? Or what AMD is planning to counter this? I'm planning on buying a new processor next year.
- johnsmith3210, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3"604k of RAM may not be enough, but I'm betting 96G will be"
Ohhhhhhhhh you're gonna look so stupid in about 25 years ;) - Aurabolt, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Anyone else pissed that Newegg removed the shipping cost from being seen, until you add it to the cart and put in your zipcode?
- vat0r, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3All hail newegg.
- sexybobo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3You are forgetting about crysis 2 that will be out in 2011 that will need 100gig of ram to get 30 fps.
I am sure there is a comment some where asking where computers will go now that they have 16 bit processors 4 meg of ram and 100 meg hard drives - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3No doubt lazyslacker, but that's still on a 300 dollar mobo. My point is a Q9450 will overclock on a 120 dollar mobo to keep up with the new i7s at stock with no trouble and you can use good DDR2. i7 right now is for people who want to spend $2,000 on a build or more. And that's awesome, they'll be some kickass machines, but I'm personally not looking at it for another 6 months at the earliest, my current system handles everything I throw at it.
I'm all about the hardware, but I don't upgrade just to upgrade, I wait until my current stuff can't do what I want it to do. Or it's been 18 months and I'm bored. That too. - DeathRay2K, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3After the next die shrink, in about a year.
That is, if Intel can fit more than 6 cores per processor, they might not actually come out with any 8 core CPUs until 2010/11. - wonttellya, on 11/17/2008, -1/+3Micro Center has 920 for $300, another $300 for the cheapest MB, and $130 for 1x3GB DDR3 RAM. $730 upgrade isn't too bad if you own a pre-C2D or AMD machine now, but I'm going to wait until the 965 drops down to around $500 to upgrade to i7.
http://microcenter.com/storefronts/intel/nov_promo ... - c1utch, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2 I just bought a q9550 with 8gb of ram and a 4870. Overclocked to 3.8 on air stable. The i7 920 looks to overclock to 3.8 as well, at 20% faster times in 3ds and rhino. $320 gets you a beast of a processor, well worth it.
- bluemist, on 11/17/2008, -1/+3With the multicore generation I'm wishing to run simultaneous OS's. No not the virtualization kind, I mean natively.
- sexybobo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2I think he was referring to mobo selection. These are brand new chips with brand new sockets.
Newegg currently only has 8 mobo that support this chip compared to 372 for the dual core chips. By summer they will have a much better selection that will let you get the options you want. - sexybobo, on 11/17/2008, -1/+3You can get 4 gig of ddr2 ocz for $44 so 3x as much is expensive.
- tnoy, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2$220 isn't too bad of a price for what you get with that MSI board, either.
