Guy gets tasered by the new mp3 playing taser watch!
video.gearlive.com — Check it out. He collapses mid-way through the interview when he gets tasered. Specifically, it was a leopard print taser, though it also comes in pink.

However, if there was a cell phone that would give me a jolt every time I got drunk and considered taking a fat chick home, it would be worth its weight in gold.- ihavebeenseen, on 01/10/2008, -0/+9now if the cell phone drove me home after i drank too much, that would be worth taking the fat chick home.

.... somebody at CES actually made a MP3 Player/Taser....
Somebody actually made a music playing device that you hold up to your ear..... that doubles as a taser....
Somebody actually though it would be a good idea to create a device that plays music and doubles as a TASER that you have to hold up to your ear....
... Humanity is going to wipe itself out soon..... probably with a Hair Dryer/Portable Nuke/Cellphone...- Ataxia87, on 01/10/2008, -1/+15Do you hold your iPod to you ear?
Man you must be one of the most retarded human alive today. - strictnein, on 01/10/2008, -0/+7Not quite. Unfortunately the title is misleading.
It's a holster that plays music. It's made by Taser and it can hold a Taser.
- Ataxia87, on 01/10/2008, -1/+15Do you hold your iPod to you ear?
- Ataxia87, on 01/10/2008, -9/+7He definitely deserved getting tasered, not only because of the awful facial hair, but also because of his ***** annoying voice.

- georgetds, on 01/10/2008, -1/+9Well, since I suppose we Canadian's are so much more resistant against shocks, it does skew the statistics a bit.
- Speed, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2And it should be mentioned that the Taser was never cleared by medical examiners in the Canadian deaths.

- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -12/+18I've already had the "don't trivialise deadly weapons" discussion in the comments for another article. In summary - making a potentially deadly weapon pink and building an MP3 player in to it doesn't mean it's any less dangerous. At the very least, carrying one of these should require a licence.
- Necoras, on 01/10/2008, -6/+22Should carrying a hammer require a liscence? Or buying a chain saw? What about a scary mask (it could cause a heart attack ya know). This is designed as a defensive weapon and it is overwhelminly not lethal. When used improperly all things can cause death. The reasoning that it needs a liscence leads logically to stasis where nobody can do anything for fear of harming another.
- NoCt1, on 01/10/2008, -13/+4OR. You can not be a douche. Tasers should have some form of class or licensing in order to carry one.
- Myonosken, on 01/10/2008, -2/+11A hammer's main purpose isn't to attack someone though.
- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -3/+5Neither is a Taser. It's main purpose is defending one's self. Also, they aren't designed to be deadly and normally aren't. They only people that have died from them are people that probably would have also died if they had gotten into a serious physical confrontation which is what would have happened without the Taser.
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -1/+4Tasers are weapons. No weapon is defensive or offensive until it's used.
- nogami, on 01/10/2008, -3/+7Call me old fashioned, but anything that people call a "weapon", defensive or otherwise, should need a license...
- Lyph5, on 01/10/2008, -0/+4You can use a hammer as a tool or as a weapon. The primary use is a tool. Anything that has a primary use of "WEAPON" should need at the very LEAST a safety class.
- Necoras, on 01/10/2008, -5/+4Ok, lets look at it this way. If I'm proficient in any martial arts (which I'm not, shame on me for my laziness) do I need a license to walk around myself? Technically I'm a weapon at that point aren't I? The right to self defense shouldn't need government oversight.
- Dochtuir, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3would your primary function be a weapon?
- exomni, on 01/10/2008, -4/+1Necoras just made me lose all faith in humanity. Dear Lord are some people completely ***** retarded.
- Matri, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1I can bludgeon you to death with my iPhone. Does that mean I need a license to carry it around?
- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3exomni - Look in the mirror and you'll find an idiot. Necoras isn't one.
- Xsecrets, on 01/10/2008, -1/+1how is that old fashioned. It wasn't until fairly recently that a license was required for any sort of weapon.
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -0/+7I see where you're coming from. I am British, so we have different laws to the US about these things. For example, if you were attacked while you were and you used a cricket bat to defend yourself there would be questions asked - mainly why you were carrying the cricket bat. If you happened to be coming home from playing cricket then it's fine. If you carry a cricket bat around on the off chance that someone will attack you, that's not fine. It ceases to be a piece of sporting equipment and becomes a weapon.
The same would apply to a hammer or a chainsaw which is are tools, a knife is cutlery, and a scary mask is a costume. A taser has no other purpose but as a weapon, defensive or otherwise. Unless they really want to make the, frankly ridiculous, argument that it's an MP3 player and not a weapon.- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -4/+4And that is why Britain is a horrible place to live. You can't be prepared to defend yourself unless your attacked at which point it is not possible.
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -5/+2If everyone starts carrying tasers to "defend" themselves, then the criminals will start carrying guns. Then people will start carrying guns to defend themselves, so criminals will start carrying automatics. The more weapons you put on the street, the more deaths you end up with.
- intangible, on 01/10/2008, -1/+5@Hermoid
Criminals are usually looking for easy targets, they're not looking to take a chance at fighting with someone.
Don't make yourself a helpless target.
- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -4/+4And that is why Britain is a horrible place to live. You can't be prepared to defend yourself unless your attacked at which point it is not possible.
- exomni, on 01/10/2008, -4/+1Are you ***** retarted? Hammers and Chainsaws are NOT designed as defensive weapons. Using a hammer or a chainsaw properly cannot cause death. Using a taser properly CAN and HAS.
- Firehed, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3Well, both hammers and chainsaws have been lethal when used properly, but it's because of an accident or a problem with the tool (ever almost accidentally cut down a tree on top of yourself because the idiots trying to push it away failed epically? I have, and I was using the chainsaw properly) However, neither is designed to be used as a weapon - offensive or defensive - in any context. The taser's sole purpose is to cause bodily harm to another. I could make just about anything double as a weapon in the right context or situation, but that doesn't mean it would be classified as such during normal use.
- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -2/+4First, using a chainsaw properly CAN cause death. You have obviously never experienced kickback. Second, it isn't the using of the Taser that has caused death, it was the condition of the person it was used on. They were unhealthy and unfortunately died. Tasers have saved far more lives than they have ended, both criminals and police.
- strictnein, on 01/10/2008, -1/+1Someone hasn't played Doom.
- max420, on 01/10/2008, -0/+3The problem everyone fails to realize is that the great majority of the population is incredibly stupid and irresponsible. I can totally see stupid ass teenagers going around tasing people for fun, kind of like those assholes who did drive by's with a paint ball gun some years back. Putting a weapon, even a less then lethal, weapon in the hands of the public is a dumb idea. Look at what guns do on a daily basis. You've got so called 'gangsters" who think its actually cool to kill people in cold blood, or to get revenge on someone for something as stupid as a fender bender by killing them. Whats next, rubber bullet guns for the general public?
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1I thoroughly agree. What's possibly worse is the idea that tasers are somehow "safe" so more people will use them believing that there will be no long term harm.
- bobartig, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2I remember when my kid sister and I went shopping for a father's day gift some 12 years ago. We decided to get him a small chainsaw for yard work, since he wanted to prune some larger growth in the yard (branches several inches around, or fell a small tree). She went in to Home Depot, and came out carrying a mini gas powered chainsaw. She was 14. Seeing this little girl wandering around with a chainsaw she'd just bought with cash was a combination of hilarious and horrific that will never leave me.
I remember being unable to purchase butane for a pencil torch a few months ago, being only 16, and there she was with a frikkin chainsaw.
- Patented, on 01/10/2008, -2/+12Yes because we all need the government telling us how, why, and where we can defend ourselves. Poor persons without the monetary means to defend themselves (purchasing a license) can just continue being victims of criminals, and the system, as a consequence.
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -5/+2Being poor doesn't stop Americans buying guns, does it ? A taser isn't going to make you safe from criminals, but it will make you one if you treat it like a leopard print, MP3 playing toy.
- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -2/+6A Taser is a great step to protecting yourself. How can you even think it isn't?
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -2/+2Very easily. I live in the real world where not everyone is a good person. Not everyone behaves responsibly. If you go out in to the real world you're not safe. All a taser is going to do is fool you in to thinking you are.
- intangible, on 01/10/2008, -3/+1@Hermoid
Okay, you just assume the victim role when you're attacked; I prefer to take control of the situation myself.
- cawpin, on 01/10/2008, -2/+6A Taser is a great step to protecting yourself. How can you even think it isn't?
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -5/+2Being poor doesn't stop Americans buying guns, does it ? A taser isn't going to make you safe from criminals, but it will make you one if you treat it like a leopard print, MP3 playing toy.
- georgetds, on 01/10/2008, -1/+5I thought the video claimed that the user had to be registered in order to be able to use it. That is about all the protection a license is ever going to give us, anyway. We license drivers of motor vehicles too, and it does not guarantee safety.
- Hermiod, on 01/10/2008, -0/+1Training in its proper use which includes "Tasing people because they annoy you, you don't like them or if they come on to you is not self defence" before granting the licence would be a start.
An MP3 player that you place to your head that doubles as a taser? What's the worst that can happen?
>> Now I'm just waiting for the lawsuit of the person who gets mugged because they ran down the taser batteries playing MP3s.- georgetds, on 01/10/2008, -0/+8Except that the taser itself is not the MP3 player. The holster plays the music.

- Pyrogen, on 01/10/2008, -0/+10Taser isn't a pain compliance weapon. PCP users don't feel pain, but their muscles still work on electrical impulses.

- motters, on 01/10/2008, -2/+5I'm glad that in the UK there is a whole different attitude towards carrying weapons. Sure you could use a tazer to defend yourself against an assailant, but also a mugger could easily use one to disable their victim whilst robbing them. The idea that these devices are sold "securely" on the internet is somewhat laughable, and I'm sure any criminal would be able to acquire one if they wished.
