- zeblith, on 11/25/2008, -0/+89"one million G1s in the fourth quarter, which is a 40% increase over the initial 600,000 estimate."
WTB Maths. If it's an increase, it should be marked from the initial value of 600k, so it's a 67% increase.
*edit* Oh... some dude named "Paul" on the page said it too. Now I'm gonna go hide in a corner and cry. */edit* - SoulDesigner, on 11/25/2008, -2/+84that's what she said
- ckmorita, on 11/25/2008, -11/+81I don't like the look of the G1, but I'd like to test drive the OS.
- crownedgriffin, on 11/25/2008, -11/+64I want one, but not enough to change to T-Mobile.
- Aitese, on 11/25/2008, -3/+54I was surprised to find how compact it actually is once I got my hands on one.
- Aitese, on 11/25/2008, -2/+39Amazing...I didn't even see that coming.
Wait...I did it again. - pharcide, on 11/25/2008, -1/+36i would say quite the opposite. tmobile is the best when it comes to customer service. Commonly i'm thinking... i want the iphone... but not enough to go to att
- Rockkybox, on 11/25/2008, -2/+35Baconium
- mynameistux, on 11/25/2008, -6/+36G2, and I'm in
- lemur, on 11/25/2008, -0/+26ok genius, so what should we make our phones out of besides plastic?
- mindpuzzle, on 11/25/2008, -3/+29i am waiting for the second release
- talonh, on 11/25/2008, -5/+31... was the first words you heard from your mother's lips,
- moleboy, on 11/25/2008, -0/+24actually, HTC designed the phone. Google just developed the OS.
- duke, on 11/25/2008, -1/+24"I'm Verizon - I ***** hate phones that are tied to one network."
Surely, you see the irony in that statement. (Not that I can criticise - I am in Verizon too) - djauto23, on 11/25/2008, -0/+20You can with the SDK.
- lemur, on 11/25/2008, -1/+19So we're going for the expensive plastic look. I gotcha!
- omnithought, on 11/25/2008, -0/+18@prophetpimp
Yeah, so, like...his mom. - Number23, on 11/25/2008, -1/+18I’ve had mine since launch and my only complaint is the lack of a headphone jack and poor battery time.
The seamless integration with Google mail, contacts and calendar is fantastic. Street view is way cool and I love that it’s fully programmable in Java. I’ve already started work on an app for the app store. - inactive, on 11/25/2008, -7/+24that's what she said
- archer104, on 11/25/2008, -1/+16love
- jackcrack7, on 11/25/2008, -0/+15I spoke to the guy at the Verizon store the other day and he had nothing but negative things to say about Android. He said that Verizon is staying as far away from it as possible as they have a new OS coming that will destroy Android. It's unlikely but he can keep on dreaming.
- GamerX, on 11/25/2008, -2/+16Pentium
*oh wait* - mk3k, on 11/25/2008, -0/+14Well they can put the OS on a bunch of different phones, someone will make a nice looking one.
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 11/25/2008, -1/+15She said both of those things too^^
- mstachiw, on 11/25/2008, -1/+15G1 is awesome though should have launched with a cleaner looking interface, 1/8" jack, and GOOGLE DOCS!!!
- raggles, on 11/25/2008, -0/+14So is your mom.
- mrswirl, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13My wife works for T-mobile in one of their customer support centers. I can offer some advice:
When you call Tmo customer service ask for the 'Blackberry and PDA' desk specifically. They specialize on the G1. The other thing you can do if you're not satisified is to ask to speak to a Coach which is higher up than your basic phone rep. If that doesn't work then ask to speak to a Team Manager. They'll get some action going.
They're correct in that some of the really old SIMMs don't work. What you can do is have them initiate a new account with the SIMM that came in the box. This will at least allow you to use the G1 until they can port your old number over. You'll have 2 accounts for a while but they will credit you appropriately. Also, have them credit you some bonus minutes for your trouble.
I did have a problem when first initializing my G1 it as it couldn't connect to the Google servers to authenticate since I don't live in a 3G area and the defaults are set for 3G. I had to change the APN to run on the Edge network instead.
T-Mobile takes customer service very seriously and they'll do right by you if you give them a chance. - raptordrew, on 11/25/2008, -3/+16I was just in the market for a new phone, but didn't get an Android since I'm Verizon - I ***** hate phones that are tied to one network. if you want me to buy it, give me a choice on networks.
- SniperGX1, on 11/25/2008, -5/+16Adamantium
- jawbreaker4fs, on 11/25/2008, -6/+17Fix the battery issues, add a headphone jack and I'll switch from iPhone/AT&T in a heartbeat.
- inactive, on 11/25/2008, -4/+15No. it was the girl who first saw him naked. then she stood there. pointed and said HA HA.
- mk3k, on 11/25/2008, -0/+10t-mobile has great customer service. All the other cell phone companies used to piss me off when I'd call. I don't feel that way talking to t-mobile.
- cashless, on 11/25/2008, -0/+10I was having battery issues, once I turned my screen brightness down to the lowest level (still very bright) and turned off GPS when not in use, I got at least %40 more time.
The app Power Manager helps alot. - xxacefirexx, on 11/25/2008, -1/+11I don't think that's happening for a while. Verizon is pretty adamant about using their own (*****) software. I have Verizon and I hate it.
- cashless, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9What Android really needs is:
The ability to create a swap partition on the SD card
To run apps from the SD card
A better Opera browser (still in Beta, but runs like an alpha)
A free desktop contact/calendar manager (I don't feel so safe with backups only in the cloud) - Elranzer, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9The G1 will NOT be the only Google Android phone. But where are all the other devices, on other carriers?
- lava, on 11/25/2008, -1/+10The G1 is not locked in, its your network that sucks. Verizon and Sprint's networks are so closed in that it's hard to switch over a phone.
- unhookt, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9Same here. I couldn't believe how rudely some of the AT&T customer service reps would treat me back when I was a customer. After being on AT&T for almost 10 years I begrudgingly switched to T-Mobile. I was worried about service quality and cell signal issues based on all of the rumors that were floating around but it was plain BS. I've driven cross country 6 times since and never had any issues with my T-Mobile phone, even in east jabib. I don't regret making the switch for a minute. I would consider the iPhone if T-Mobile carried it, but I definitely wouldn't switch to AT&T just for that reason.
- zerogeist, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8yeah dude use power management app. i get 3 times the life out of mine because i have some very specific triggers set up, though i wish it would let you set a trigger based on GPS location... maybe someone will add that in.
also, there is a little component you can buy that fits in the mini usb slot at the bottom of the device and becomes a headphone jack.. only 10 bucks here
http://www.g1depot.com/seidio-mini-usb-to-35mm-ada ... - jackcrack7, on 11/25/2008, -0/+8Or if you buy the phone now it comes with one.
- cashless, on 11/25/2008, -1/+8Wow, you mean you can browse the internet on your phone? REVOLUTIONARY!!!
- DickyT83, on 11/25/2008, -4/+11good job on google's fart.
- bluephox, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Get the black one...not the bronze. The bronze's keyboard is to hard to read in some lighting although it looks cooler. PS I love mine android. Can't put it down. Have not touched my iphone in weeks. So many apps...even the bad apps are fun/interesting.
- Number23, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Well, I got the headphone adapter, so it not really an issue anymore. There's not doubt it was a HUGE oversight, but at least to me, it's more than offset by the inherent greatness of the Android OS.
Oh and I really like the real keyboard. - arma, on 11/25/2008, -4/+11yo mama!
- mk3k, on 11/25/2008, -1/+8Hmm troll? With a name like that you likely are.
- Elranzer, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Android OS is not T-Mobile exclusive.
- tnag, on 11/25/2008, -4/+10I love my G1 too. It's such a handy phone! I can see them using a different HTC phone down the line but as of right now, the G1 functions great.
