- aznhomig, on 01/09/2009, -0/+69I thought Gizmodo was banned from CES this year because of their immature antics last CES?
What'd they do this time? Cover CES from their hotel room in Reno? - immatellyouwhat, on 01/09/2009, -0/+39Welcome Back Palm.
- nbluth, on 01/09/2009, -1/+29Why would you want to pay so much to watch blu ray on such a small screen?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+23I don't think there is a company out there, that is on fire the way Samsung have been recently.
- Zippo, on 01/09/2009, -2/+24That Samsung Blu-Ray player looks pretty damn smexy.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+21You mean the guy who would turn the TVs off with a remote?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+18I can't wait not to be able to afford any of those things
- OasisR123, on 01/09/2009, -0/+15Sweet, a Spy watch!
- sidizzle, on 01/09/2009, -0/+15So that's what Palm has been up to this whole time
- clickmyface, on 01/09/2009, -1/+14Really, portable blu-ray? That made the top 10 a top 9 in my book.
- Diggman2000, on 01/09/2009, -2/+14I got a chuckle when I read this on the portable Blu-Ray Player.
"...you can watch hi-def 1080p on a tiny, tiny screen on your next flight."
If you click on the link that shows a bigger picture, it says that the screen is W-SVGA, which is NOT 1080p, or even 720p for that matter. - Elliuotatar, on 01/09/2009, -0/+11Only one staffer was banned.
- paranoid614, on 01/09/2009, -0/+11is it a watch with phone capabilities or a phone with watch capabilities?
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/09/2009, -0/+8Just like a tiny screen with blu-ray player
- mohsenxp, on 01/09/2009, -2/+10Ok for all the retards complaining about a portable blu-ray player...
Yes you are right, you probably won't notice the quality on a tiny screen.
But you are completely missing the point. This is just adapting to new technology and being future proof. If you have already changed over to Blu-Ray then what would be the point in going back to DVD just to watch it on a portable? Do you get it now? Sit down. Relax.
Blu-ray isn't just about higher quality, it is a new standard that will soon take over.
Just remember how long it took for everyone to move to DVD (I for one didn't own a DVD player until 2002! - shocking I know). - triPzZz, on 01/09/2009, -1/+8I'm having a hard time understanding why anybody would want this "watch-phone". It seems, a bit retarded.
- fugazied, on 01/09/2009, -0/+7That eee keyboard is crazy! http://i.gizmodo.com/5124985/eee-keyboard-an-entir ...
As one of the posters mentioned in that thread, they are brining back the 80's keyboard/computers. It does seem a little strange that the Commodore 64 had the whole computer in the keyboard, than as PCs became popular we suddenly had huge boxes to lug around. Back to all in one keyboards thanks! - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6Dick Tracy?
Maybe before your time. - mikbunn, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6No way I'm using a headset. I'm going full-out: wearing a tux, ducking behind corners, and playing the Spy Hunter theme on repeat.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/09/2009, -2/+8Are you saying Samsung is Flaming?
- thundercloud39, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6Watching a 1080p movie on a tiny screen makes about as much sense as listening to a CD over a cheap laptop speaker.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/10/2009, -0/+5if you have at least 12 movies that's $320 worth , We are not all rich like you.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5That is a dumb thing to do really, why buy $30 movies to play them on such a small screen when dvd players look the same , but the movies are $14 and even $5 for older ones at Wally World
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5I'd say Watch first then phone, because every cellphone now has watch capabilities.
- FreddieD, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5#11) TV-B-Gone version 2.0
- Renton, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5Welcome to CES!
- etruscan, on 01/09/2009, -4/+9I've had several Palm devices, the most recent was a Sony Cleo with Palm OS5. At the time I thought they were handy, but they didn't really amaze me (the same way my iPhone or a BB has)... which is greatly due to the fact that these were offline devices (not smartphones) and furthermore weren't very intuitive.
...still, they were way ahead of the game at the time, and I think they just needed some time to regroup and bring some new talent onboard. I'm excited at the prospect of a resurgence of Palm via smartphones - I think the market could use another option. I'm still skeptical, but this is heartening. - immatellyouwhat, on 01/09/2009, -1/+6That was AWESOME! :D
- Elliuotatar, on 01/09/2009, -2/+7DVD's will be phased out eventually. I'm sure this is geared towards weathly early adopters who don't want to have to buy two copies of every movie.
Also it probably has an HDMI output so you can hook it up to your hotel room TV. - sigafoo, on 01/09/2009, -2/+6So we have a portable blu-ray player... is it really going to stand out that much more than a normal DVD?
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+5"Vizio Connected HDTVs: These Vizios stream just about everything possible over wireless-N: Amazon, Blockbuster and Netflix VOD, Pandora, Flickr, Rhapsody, plus any other Yahoo web widget."
yes, but can that vizio stream my Pirate Bay content? - chamberlanderic, on 01/10/2009, -1/+5No Booth Babes ????
- Branchex, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4A portable blu-ray player? I thought HD was not noticeable on a screen that small.
- NidStyles, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3Never tried the Treo? Great devices.
- Rikkochet, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4Can it stream non-streamable content? I'm going to assume the answer is no.
- kalv, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4Can I use cloak?
- Barackalypse, on 01/09/2009, -2/+5This is seriously the best the electronics industry could do? Everything is so, derivative, aside from the LED TV and that Asus keyboard thing (which I have no idea about, the description on it is horrible) there isn't anything particularly new or innovative. Normally I look at these lists and think, "If I had money to spare, I'd buy almost all of these". This year, I think, "Well, that LED TV is pretty cool, I guess its somewhat better than the one I already have".
- toxicityj, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3I'm REALLY excited for the eee keyboard.
- SolidSnak, on 01/10/2009, -1/+4but srsly......portable blu-ray
lol - Renton, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3mohsenxp is a transsexual.
See? I can randomly call strangers names over the safety of the internet too. - warriorscot, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3I had a cleo as well and loved it. The lack of internet access was the biggest bother if it had that I would probably still be using it as it has a great little screen and good battery life. But at the time wireless was still in its infancy and was ridiculously expensive.
- Cassanova, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Its probably not for people who use iphones and whatnot but for the average person who wants a phone just to make calls on with some additional features it would be pretty cool. They dont want to worry about carrying around a phone in their pocket or purse anymore or losing it or dropping it because its always attached to them. They can go jogging with it and whatnot without needing a special strap for their cell phone. Hopefully it has voice activated dialing so you don't have to mess with the tiny interface too much. MP3 playback is pretty cool for a watch. Oh and its a watch AND a phone which will totally impress all your friends!
- dchurchill, on 01/09/2009, -3/+5How much did Sony pay gizmodo for this article? Seriously
- STARTSOMETHING, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Well if the resolution is 1080p. You will see a difference. Compared to portable dvd players. They probably expect it to only sell to the wealthy, at first.
- mikbunn, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Good stuff. I can't wait to look like a ***** lunatic by talking into my wrist.
But where's the Mattel brainwave maze? While not the most practical gadget there is, that is by far the coolest thing I've seen from CES. Way better than that piece of ***** Force version. - slvrdc5, on 01/10/2009, -1/+3What about the new Sony Walkman OLED touch screen coming out this summer!? 16GB $299 & 32GB $399
- diggerbez, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2That Samsung TV looks awesome!! I also hope that the palm comes out soon. I was going to buy a blackberry storm, but now I will wait.
- davidrools, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3no, you just look like a douche on a BT headset w/ your watch-phone
- PatoLucas, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3Now my Dick Tracy costume will be complete!
- Shuk, on 01/09/2009, -3/+5That Sony netbook-that's-not-a-netbook thing looks like it's a real step forward. The instant-on OS is classy, the keyboard is well-sized, and I'm so glad that Lenovo isn't gonna be hogging the trackball (I have a Lenovo laptop, I can't go back to standard trackpads anymore).
Once they put Windows 7 on this thing and change the colour scheme to black, white, or silver, I can really see it taking off. -
