- PhillyOC, on 11/06/2009, -5/+36#1 on the list should be Verizon itself. Only having AT&T as a carrier for the iPhone was a deal breaker for myself and a ton of others.

- mungk, on 11/06/2009, -3/+23I think most people consider a hardware keyboard to be superior to an on-screen keyboard. But whatever. If you don't like the hardware keyboard, just don't open up the phone. Android provides a perfectly nice on-screen keyboard as well.
- vpshockwave, on 11/07/2009, -0/+15I think the browser works great. Combined with the high resolution, it works fine. My only issue is pinch/zoom would be nice in the browser.

"In fact it’s the keyboard that makes the device an attractive alternative to RIM’s BlackBerry for the enterprise market."
Yet again, columnists don't know what they're ***** talking about. What makes BlackBerry attractive to the enterprise market is BlackBerry Enterprise Server integration with Microsoft Exchange. That's why Blackberries even exist. That's how they made so much money, because they were and are the best solution for wireless corporate email delivery outside the enterprise. There's no equivalent to BES, and until there is, enterprises will continue to dole out Blackberries to their corporate users. Why anyone would buy a Blackberry that isn't hooked into their Exchange infrastructure is a mystery nobody's ever been able to explain other than brand recognition. - 4degrees, on 11/06/2009, -1/+11iPutz
- EddiePotato, on 11/06/2009, -2/+12That something might be susceptibility to hype, marketing, and the cult of Apple.
- writeb, on 11/07/2009, -1/+10Sigh...
Much better hardware (screen, UI, hard buttons, form factor), faster processor, GPS, IMO better looking, and the coverage is probably much better than anything you've experienced with T-mobile or ATT.
So basically, it's like your G1, except much, much better.
Any questions? - PhillyOC, on 11/07/2009, -7/+16Uh, the Droid has MS Exchange support. http://www.product-reviews.net/2009/11/04/verizon% ...
Who the ***** doesn't know what they are talking about? Retard. - protonone, on 11/07/2009, -0/+8As cool as the droid is, does this article really deserve to be front page. I was hoping for a review and instead what I got was "Really cool name!" "Apps are fun to play with!" "Look for things with search!" and then mentions that maps can be turn based.
- kjones555, on 11/07/2009, -0/+7I picked up my Droid today to replace my G1 and overall, I am happy! Due to buttons being in different spots and all, I'm having to sorta relearn how to navigate Android, but nothing too serious. So far, I only have two gripes about the phone:
1) The screen really takes both thumbs to slide up unlike the G1 where you can just flip it up effortlessly without it feeling cheap. I guess the only saving grace for this is that my #2 gripe about this phone is...
2) The physical keyboard BLOWS! I mean reviewers have been saying it's better than the G1's, but imo, it is alot worse. Maybe I need to get adjusted to it, but I think it's worse. So lately I've been using the on screen keyboard (making me not have to bother opening up the screen), but because the virtual keyboard isn't multitouch as previously rumored, I make a lot of mistakes typing.
Aside from the keyboards, sliding up the screen, and zoom on the browser, I love this phone! The few pictures I've take have shot marvelously, the phone is lightning quick, it just looks sexy, and I have no regrets of leaving T-mobile for Verizon. All I need now is for someone to figure out how to root the Droid so I can get my precious Wifi Tether back. $30 for tethering is extremely steep! - woofers07, on 11/07/2009, -0/+6*raises hand*
- deadpoetic333, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5I also picked up a Droid today and here is my take:
The key size doesn't bother me as much as the D-pad taking up so much room making me have to either hold it in what seems to be an unnatural position or with a bit of strain having to reach to hit mid-keyboard keys. Then again my hands aren't exactly large.
The phone did freeze up on me when playing around with the nav and after giving it some time I pulled the battery out =S.
Automatic brightness was annoying until I turned it off; dimming at the wrong times and brightening up when I needed it least. Though even when I keep the screen on dim settings to avoid battery drain, the "wow" factor doesn't seem to go away because of how sharp everything looks.
Other than that I am very, very satisfied with the phone. Speedy browsing , very responsive keyboard, and what blew me away is playing HD videos on youtube with no load time. Apps open and close without a stutter and look great on the very sharp display. Video camera lived up to the hype put out by reviewers. It did seem to take a while to focus while taking pictures but I rarely need to take multiple shots (unlike many people) so it doesn't affect me to much. - PhillyOC, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Thanks for the heads up.
- Smalldude76, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4The part of writeb's post that didn't mention coverage:
Sigh...
Much better hardware (screen, UI, hard buttons, form factor), faster processor, GPS, IMO better looking, [removed].
So basically, it's like your G1, except much, much better.
Any questions? - bigmahlman, on 11/06/2009, -2/+6it has a deticated gps, it just dosnt have all the online stuff when you dont have 3g
- ManUnitdFan, on 11/07/2009, -1/+5I don't know why anyone would spend $70 on an iPhone navigation app. There's a great app called MotionX GPS Drive that was $3, and does everything my Garmin does.
The Droid does look nice though. Hopefully it'll end up being a serious challenge to the iPhone's market share. - ZeNiTH456, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4It will cache maps ahead on your route for at least 5 minutes driving worth. You should be able to regain signal by the time it needs to update the maps again... In case you happen to get outside Verizon's network.
- bradleyland, on 11/07/2009, -2/+5BES is not the same as Exchange. BES is a platform, and could be thought of more as an extension to Exchange than an equivalent product. It includes a superset of features made possible by RIM's myriad of patents; so no, Exchange support in Droid is not a replacement for BES if you're an enterprise customer who has built their IT infrastructure around it.
- keyo, on 11/06/2009, -0/+3Does it cache maps. Nokia maps has the whole country which is quite handy when I'm in the middle of nowhere.
- RonniSR, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3What a world, iPhone is taking off with all the fanboy's. About time you guy's get back down to earth and realize that there is actually products down here there is at least as good. Ok iPhone is nice hardware but its far from a beauty. Well some people like freedom others need to be in a leash, just stick to the product you like and let others be exited by the things we like. Maybe one day you will realize that Apple is just beating you around the bush!
- PhillyOC, on 11/06/2009, -4/+7On Verizon, you are never in the middle of nowhere. That is the beauty of having a network that covers 5 times what AT&T does.
- kjones555, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3I like the browser...alot! The only thing that I don't like which was mentioned is the crappy zooming. Other than that, the browser is second only to the iphones. But in due time, someone will figure out how to get pinch zoom on the Droid. Hell, it doesn't have to even be pinch zoom, just something better than what the zoom is now!
- SpiderTeets, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3yeah the new browser for 2.0 is actually quite good.
my problems lay more in the software quirks such as the jittery home page flick and camera speed,
all which will be fixed w/ software updates so i'm going to buy one anyway ^^ - kashk5, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3You can't unlock a CDMA phone and use it on a GSM network. Only way you're using Android on AT&T is if you unlock the G1 or wait until AT&T gets some of its own Android phones.
- RonniSR, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4The things there is about it "not being an iPhone" would be the same reasons you would get a phone like this instead if you wasn't a fanboy. Wake up and smell the coffee instead of letting apple beat you around the bush!
- keyo, on 11/06/2009, -3/+5Personally I would rather have maps that work in offline mode. Google maps only real advantage for me is the price. Nokia makes me pay a subscription fee just to unlock driving directions for nokia maps.
3G is still to slow and expensive where I am. - HotLeper, on 11/07/2009, -6/+8Droid is certainly no iPhone killer.
- cuervoman914, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2when driving thru the mountains from pa to wv, and you get coverage in the middle of nowhere, thru tunnels and high peaks, you could, as i will, attest to the fact that verizon's coverage kicks ass.
- PhillyOC, on 11/07/2009, -3/+5They are not trying to kill it, but they may force Apple to raise the bar even further into the stratosphere.
I think the competition is great, because no matter what anybody says, the iPhone never really had any. - diptheria, on 11/07/2009, -2/+4"audaciously large" -- Really? Do you know what audacious means? well, obviously you don't...but looking at the rest of your post, it seems you are a bit artless with English in general. Enjoy your two week old bar of soap...
- deadpoetic333, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2There will never be a single phone that will be an "iPhone killer". Android as an OS can be the killer, but unless some phone can be produced that is better than apple in every way, shape, and form in strides, the iPhone won't just drop out of the lead. A lot of people with iPhones don't know squat about operating systems, never hear about rejected apps, and love how trendy they look with their iPhone. I've told a few co-workers and friends about the Droid, 80% of them asked what it is... As Android phones hit At&t and more of them hit Verizon, we will most likely see a steady decrease in the amount of smartphone market shares Apple holds and a slow but steady dethroning(but not death) of the iPhone.
(This is coming from a guy who picked up his Droid a few hours ago) - 3tcp, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2What an unimpressive article. I should have noticed when the first thing she like was the name and then criticized the name of the last phone. As if anyone would not buy something because it's name has too many syllables. Dumb superficial chick wraps it up with "Then again, last season I swore off horizontal stripes, and this year I’m wearing striped sweaters nearly every day" The other reviews I've read about the droid have been more informative than this.
- laibixi, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I'm wondering if there is something like OffMaps for Android, that would be great!
- jshhmr, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2As long as iPhones are on at&t and Apple continues to act like spoiled brats, yes it is.
- scojerroc, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1the first thing mentioned is the name? really? how important is that? the iPhone is called the "iPhone", for *****'s sake. Droid = dumb. iPhone - dumb. Razr = dumb. Blackjack = dumb, Chocolate = WAY dumb. Virtually all cell phones have stupid names. I have owned three of those mentioned above and been pretty happy with all of them (and ashamed to tell people what phone i used, in every case)
- Jaime2000, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1"I'm seriously considering buying one, but there is something about it not being an iPhone that is keeping me from doing it."
It's called brainwashing. - eldridgea, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Which they are supposed to soon.
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/mini-3ix-dells ... - deadpoetic333, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Why would you want to get a phone on At&t other than the iPhone? If you want the Droid, get on Verizon and take advantage of their amazing service. Most people aren't exactly satisfied with the service they get with AT&T.
- krisrm, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1The G1 is wonderful :) - does anyone have any idea when 2.0 recovery ROMs will be released? More importantly, when will a 2.0 Cyanogen Mod be released? ;) (the best part about an Android phone? root access, hell yeah :D ). Nevertheless, the Droid, as well as some of the other sweet new phones coming out with Android, might actually start to poke a hole in the Apple balloon :)
- sahaskatta, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Here's Skatter Tech's Review:

Well, I didn't properly express my thoughts on the physical keyboard. The Droid's physical keyboard has some issues such as a short spacebar, two unclickable buttons that are wasting space, and other alignment and character location related problems. Not to mention, the D-pad is on the right hand side.
I don't have a problem with physical keyboards, especially since the Droid is so thin despite having such a keyboard, but the keyboard is not intuitive for me to justify using it.
Also, the virtual keyboard has been criticized in Android so I am hoping they supe it up a bit for the next build of the OS, especially with a touch-screen only Droid on the way next year. - jlaux42, on 11/07/2009, -4/+4I tried one in the Verizon store today, and found the keyboard pretty lacking. I felt like I wanted to push the display back another quarter inch or so, so that my fingers weren't bumping up against it while typing. Needless to say, I was disappointed. :(
- sirdarksoul, on 11/07/2009, -1/+1" Motorola’s first smartphone had too many monikers. Launched on T-Mobile (DT) and powered by Google's (GOOG) Android, it was called the Cliq with Motoblur. "
Wasn't the Q Moto's first smart phone? And is smartphone smart phone one or 2 words? - Cyberdactyl, on 11/07/2009, -1/+1Ahh ad hominem at it's best.
And yes, you might need to look that up as well and struggle with an understanding. - RonniSR, on 11/07/2009, -1/+1And as long there is spoiled brats acting like fanboys iPhone wont die but you can't ignore the fact that competition is here and some far more innovating than iPhone has been since the first generation.
- ohplease, on 11/08/2009, -1/+1As an Exchange administrator for large corporations for over 10 years, YOU don't know what the ***** you're talking about.
- 3tcp, on 11/07/2009, -3/+3wtf you must work for verizon, only salesmen use that kind of *****.
- isteadyshot, on 11/07/2009, -1/+0Check out this iphone and nano camera stabilizer
http://www.isteadyshot.com - DavidinBoston, on 11/07/2009, -3/+2Not sure why the hell people gave you so many thumbs down.
I'm also waiting for an Android 2.0 phone with no keyboard for Verizon. Why get a phone with a feature you don't want and have no intention of ever opening up? And hopefully it'll be even thinner without a keyboard. -
