http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7733602.stm - h4sh1sh, on 11/20/2008, -1/+32I don't know where I'd be without frozen pizzas, nice find.
- waldo686, on 11/21/2008, -2/+31buried for not linking to the video
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+26Yeah, for a snack before dinner maybe.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+22why did it take 3 links to get to the video?
- redgiemental, on 11/21/2008, -0/+17All food made in a factory has to pass through a metal detector at least in the UK. Its to make sure nothing has fallen into it. They even have to use a particular type of pen on the factory floor that is detectable by the metal detector.
I once worked as an accounts admin in a factory that made cakes. Got surprisingly few free cakes too :(, - hurrayforschool, on 11/21/2008, -0/+14Is that the sound a camera makes?
- joshhan, on 11/21/2008, -2/+16This is why we are getting fatter. Nothing easier than firing up the oven and cooking 4 of these puppies up.
- brandonchicago, on 11/21/2008, -3/+16Watching the pepperoni in the cutting machine just scarred me for life. *shutter*
- cloudcity, on 11/21/2008, -0/+10These seem like pretty high quality za's. I don't think you would want to see how they make the $.99 Totinos pizzas... I'm guessing there are not a lot of fresh ingredients involved...
- seltaeb4, on 11/21/2008, -7/+17And this is just to keep Rush Limbaugh fed...
- zombiecarlin, on 11/21/2008, -0/+10That's pizza being made in Ireland with fresh locally sourced ingredients and strict EU food processing laws. Frozen pizza over here on the other hand is produced rather differently and there's a reason why you've never seen a video of the process.
- sexybobo, on 11/21/2008, -0/+9The run each pizza through a metal detector?
- OzzieAlThor, on 11/21/2008, -0/+8*****. Now I'm hungry.
- zombiecarlin, on 11/21/2008, -0/+8useless fact: The Irish are the worlds largest consumers of frozen pizza by head of population.
- theradical, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8Gizmodo's never heard of How It's Made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQPT_FMQKV8
- freq, on 11/21/2008, -0/+7yes.
Just about every food item on your store shelf goes through a metal detector. Your food comes in contact with a lot of stainless steel throughout the process, and metal detectors keep you from eating the occasional bolt or metal shaving. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6Not as bad as watching sausage being made, at least you can still eat pizza- again!
- tillerman00, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7"... and next, in an exclusive behind the scenes, we get inside Hot Pockets and find out what all the secrets are within this other mass-produced ***** food."
- Davrioza, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7Have you ever tried a frozen pizza...? And I fail to see why the fact that it is frozen means it will taste bad, it's just a change in temperature - they don't smear each base with ***** at the same time.
- xpinchx, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6I was just thinking about frozen pizzas this morning... It sucks that most of them cost more than an actual pizza at a pizza store. Any of the decent Digornio's are like $7 when they're not on sale... I can think of three places that sell actual pizzas for $5 for a medium w/ one topping.
Also, Discovery's "How It's Made" did a clip on frozen pizza manufacturing as well. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6It's still good, however.
- cJw314, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6Probably much healthier and likely to "live" much longer.
- brandonchicago, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5Touché. I obviously wasn't as enthusiastic about school as you.
- KaiUno, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5Yet, somehow, I managed to survive the entire day without even realising I didn't know it how frozen pizzas were made. Amazing, isn't it?
Just move to Reddit already if it's that much faster and better. Stop bothering us with it. - sexybobo, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5I like unwrapped on the food channel. It goes show how all types of food is made and the host is good at keeping the show interesting through the boring parts.
- nbcaffeine, on 11/21/2008, -2/+6Stop buying $0.25 pizzas by the hundreds then, idiot.
- tawnos, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4And now I know....
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4Frozen Pizza kept from me starving when I was broke.
.99 Ramen Noodles vs. $1.50 Frozen Pepperoni Pizza on sale weekly. - alexwm20, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4if only the robot pizza making drones could taste their glorious creation.
- shinythingy, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4***** Yeah!!!
- thealsir, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4You took a picture?
- RadicalEdward, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4almost all food manufacturing plants do. Wouldn't you be pissed if something broke into your pizza?
- RadicalEdward, on 11/21/2008, -2/+6they could be terrorist pizza's too.
- ReyX, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3*shudder*
- zip000, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3I know! I haven't eaten frozen pizza in years, yet I really want one now.
- removesstains, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Way to make it easy for us to watch the vid. How did this get digged up so fast?
- BayouBengal, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4"How It's Made" on Science Channel can be interesting at times, the narrator can be kind of boring sometimes though
- perrym, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3the gizmodo.com gave it away for me

- bubba9999, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2squeak squeak squeak
- hasslinthehoff, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Oh yeah... pizza porn. I could watch this all day.
- gstep, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I still think the crust is 70% cardboard on those. I always splurge for the Jacks.
- CedEx, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2It's just that textures of certain foods change permanently after ice crystals form in them. For instance, imagine a block of cheese fresh versus one that has been frozen and thawed.
Even ice cream is not immune to ice crystals forming. That's why I find frozen food to be less appealing than one that is made fresh. - Ramble, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4It's not The Office anymore, it's a comedy drama very loosely based on The Office.
- fuzzynyanko, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Yep, or a piece of equipment breaks off like a slicer blade.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -8/+10Ever notice how fantastic the Canadian version of "How it's Made" is and the American version SUUUUUCKS.
Yeah. That's what the american top gear is going to be like, but with Adam Corolla.
2 of my friends just died while I wrote that. -
