- manitoba98xp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6You could run a web server on a computer in your house. Then you could visit it on the CrunchPad.
- barth2k, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5what it needs is pdf and msword reader so it can double as ebook reader
- chuckerton, on 07/05/2009, -1/+6The CrunchPad's screen will gobble up too much battery life to make it an effective Kindle competitor. E Ink is key to any e-book reader.
- cuecat, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5Here's the demo;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP-0Nce5oTQ - BenRT, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5It does, it has an on-screen keyboard.
- mikebritton, on 07/05/2009, -0/+4I think it's sweet. If anything it'll release the floodgates for more innovation, and drive bigger and better products to market.
- gargantuan, on 07/05/2009, -6/+10I smell vaporware.
- ultrafez, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3I'm sure it will be hackable. You will probably be able to install some form of Linux on it, I mean let's face it, you can install Linux on practically anything these days.
- h0dges, on 07/05/2009, -3/+5That thing looks friggin' awesome!
- pathy, on 07/05/2009, -2/+4It has an onscreen keyboard.
- antdude, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Maybe that's a good thing. :)
- Thoku, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2I really wish it had a widget/app system so you could use it to automate parts of my house. Saves me having to do everything from the iPhone's tiny screen.
- sirbeta, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1I really have to wonder why they showcase its video playback and use it as a selling point... The thing can't handle video for *****. It seemed to get a new frame every 2 or so seconds. I wouldn't expect it to play video well, but why make it compatible with youtube if it can't handle it?
- BoneStamp, on 07/06/2009, -2/+3On screen keyboards are fine in a candy bar sized device where your two thumbs can reach all the keys. If you've ever used any of the three on screen keyboards for Windows XP Tablet Edition, you'll know how much they can suck.
1. You can't leave it on the screen all the time because it takes up too much space.
2. It often appears when you have no intention of typing anything.
The only solution I see is to split the keyboard and put the two pieces in the bottom corners, so your thumbs can reach them and they only appear when you make a specific gesture or click in a text entry field of some sort. - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2will it put the kindle out of business, that thing is too ***** expensive
- Super6, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Ion-based netbooks capable of playing left 4 dead will be out at the end of the month, why do I want this again? If it was multitouch and had maybe 20gb of flash memory on board you could do some cool MS Surface type stuff but $300 for just a web browser is silly and over priced.
- AgentBarcode, on 07/05/2009, -1/+1The video on youtube of the crunchpad playing a youtube video is very telling. I think it managed around 3 frames a second. I'll pass.
- android86, on 07/06/2009, -0/+0It does everything worse than a laptop does, for a little less money. It has some niche market uses but otherwise it's a waste of time. People who buy it will learn the hard way it's a bad idea.
- elvinu, on 07/06/2009, -1/+1put an iPhone OS on it or win 7, then 3G, then a card reader, make a dock so i can connect mouse, keyboard & stuff. then make it 300$ ..finally i`m buying it. no way 300$ for a browser.
- chriscos, on 07/05/2009, -1/+0Surely it must have a virtual keyboard like the iPhone for example, which I imagine given a 12 inch touchscreen could be quite large. Odd though that there are no mentions in it from the press I've seen - I mean obviously it must have some kind of entry method as using the web requires a lot of logging into sites, etc.
It strikes me as very convenient to have a web tablet like this for just pure web browsing, but $300 seems like a high price to pay, considering you could buy a rich, fully-featured laptop even from somewhere like Best Buy for around $300-350. - jibjibman, on 07/05/2009, -3/+1This looks amazing, I wonder how easy it will be to type things if you don't plug in a keyboard..
- consolepredator, on 07/06/2009, -2/+0too expensive , buy an iphone...
- pussyWagon, on 07/06/2009, -4/+2So $300 bucks for a web browser. I like the look, but my $199 iPhone uses Webkit too.
Bring it down to $75 bucks, and we have a deal. - cawpin, on 07/06/2009, -3/+1The only thing this article did was make me want the Apple tablet more.
- dantagonist, on 07/06/2009, -2/+0Cool concept, but I dislike the name of the product... anyone else think it kinda sounds like a euphemism for a bathroom?
"You dude; where's your crunchpad at? i gotta take a mean dump"
"just down the hall, 2nd door on the right" - jawbreaker4fs, on 07/05/2009, -5/+1This looks like a boring, under-featured device that only gets attention because it's being made by Mike Arrington.
- SmokeyKermit, on 07/05/2009, -6/+1Can't wait for only $300 I'm probably going to get one.
- palehorse864, on 07/05/2009, -6/+1I was hoping it would be useful for photoshop, but it doesn't look like it runs windows, and it wouldn't be fast enough to be enjoyable.
