- ferkranus, on 01/06/2009, -5/+58Why is this news? This isn't the 50's..it shouldn't be a big deal for a black person to be hired to do anything...
- APHughes, on 01/06/2009, -6/+56Hire him because he is a good coach, not because of the color of his skin
- zhaojon, on 01/06/2009, -3/+50What's next, a black man for President?
- joe122370, on 01/06/2009, -2/+29headline should be "Yale hires new coach"
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+20Why does his race matter?
He's not a dog doing tricks. Can we get over the ***** novelty of "first x to do y" already? - drewedman, on 01/06/2009, -1/+20I'm pretty sure that this shouldn't matter anymore. The more stories there are like this, the more people will continue to think that there are different "races" in the human race.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+20Agreed.
- dobry, on 01/06/2009, -0/+14let's make a movie about it
- sh0rtstop00, on 01/06/2009, -2/+15big ***** deal
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+13Who cares what color the man is? Honestly.. what year is this
- cwk1337, on 01/06/2009, -1/+14So?
- Chirp08, on 01/06/2009, -1/+13Yale has a football team?
- ousthouse, on 01/06/2009, -0/+12I draw the line at purple.
- CleoQKazoo, on 01/06/2009, -0/+11they did
- CTK14A, on 01/06/2009, -1/+12Yale hired a colored gentleman? Well, a pat on the back for them! Next thing you know they'll be promoting women's suffrage.
Honestly, he could be black, white, tangerine--it's 2009, we should be past this by now. - rabidlemur, on 01/06/2009, -1/+12That is just crazy talk.
- trafficlight, on 01/06/2009, -2/+12Way to join the 20th century.
- leitey, on 01/06/2009, -0/+10Welcome to 2009. The time when we cheer every time a black person accomplishes something. Coaching football? Hooray! He's black! Getting elected? Hooray! He's black!
Surprise! Blacks can do these things, just like everybody else can, why make a big deal out of it? When are we going to stop treating blacks like a skin color, and start treating them like people? - ericdano, on 01/06/2009, -1/+10Who really cares? Black, White, Purple...........if he can coach, then great. Otherwise..........
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -8/+17Okay, this is it, from now on, black people can never use their skin color as an excuse for any reason...
except maybe if they get hit by a car at night or something...
but seriously tho... they're whining about racial inequality now a days is just about the only thing stopping them from achieving what civil rights leaders set out to do in the first place! - SmilinChris, on 01/06/2009, -0/+8I'd more interested if they were to hire a "little person" as their basketball coach.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -10/+18***** the RIAA
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -3/+11Bacon
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+9Yale known for excellent football.
- JAVandiver, on 01/06/2009, -0/+7Actual headline from article, "Jags assistant Williams to coach Yale"; chicagojack just wanted to make it about race.
- CTRaiderThe1st, on 01/06/2009, -2/+8More racism exhibited by ESPN. STOP mentioning the color of a persons skin.
- dukksoup, on 01/06/2009, -1/+7Goats
- CTRaiderThe1st, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5I don't know why you are getting dugg down. That was just being said a year ago.
- lauralyn, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5after the election, isn't this a little anti-climatic?
- CTRaiderThe1st, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5Honestly, it's 2009.
- Charlotte_Web, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5Why is it that Yale has never hired a Mongolian to be their football coach? What is it that Yale has against Mongolians?
We've got to end this racist policy! - pathouston22, on 01/06/2009, -3/+8Man if that happens, there will be race riots. White people will never vote for a black man running for president.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5Half white.
- smoger, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4it's been said above, but it deserves saying again. it's sad that this is considered news to anyone in 2009.
- mustang460, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5Actually if you look at the % of white college football players, the nation is pretty pathetic.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -3/+7Was someone going around making sure black people aren't hired as coaches? Or are you directing this towards black people themselves?
- CoreyHalliwell, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4Starring Matthew Mcconaughey and Jamie Foxx.
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -2/+6If we want people to stop judging others based on things like skin color we need to stop treating it like it's big news and focus on his qualifications for the job, you know, the thing that really matters.
- kjizzle, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4snore. buried as lame
- fxu1989, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4First baby to do heroin, live at 11.
- CTRaiderThe1st, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4We are past this. The only people that are still promoting racism are the ones who claim to be fighting it but are actually perpetuating it. Like ESPN's article.
- akaakc, on 01/06/2009, -2/+5Why does it matter what the percentage is? I've never understood the concern over that. Someone please help me with this apparent injustice.
It seems to me that if you have a black coach and a white coach that both want the job, you pick the better COACH - regardless of skin color. If there is a majority of white coaches, I say that that's acceptable - until someone can show me proof that they weren't the better candidate for the coaching position. So to me, the percentage argument says nothing of America's race preference when it comes to coach selection. Maybe I'm just optimistic about the integrity of our country's racial relations, but I assume that any kind of position assignment is based on nothing but qualifications for the position. I certainly hope that if there was ever a toss up between two equally qualified individuals that the decision did not go one way or the other strictly based on race - be it in favor of the black OR the white (or any other races, I'm using these two for sake of the article), as it would in an Affirmative Action case. There should always be a legitimate way to determine the best choice without incorporating race; I would prefer the flip of a coin if there was no other way. I may be missing the issue here, however, and if that's the case I would appreciate any well-constructed response. - caboose1123, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4Go-Karts
- romeyinfc, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3Unfortunately in NCAA it is the 1950's. Division I Football has like 127 programs, and yet only 1 black head coach (well now 2)... By contrast in the NFL 15% of the head coaches are black.
- ChristianBk, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4I congratulate the man for obtaining the job because of his coaching merit... not just because of the color of his skin.
- OutlawAdidas, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3It worked in blazing saddles.
- neonhomer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2Unless they're choking.
- omegared, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2i would hope yale would known the coaches they have hired in the past.
- Cswltd13, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2yeah my only response to this is big ***** deal
