- TheDeuce53, on 10/22/2009, -0/+15Ricky Williams has 4 seasons of over 1000 yards in his career (and had just under 900 in his rookie season). He also put up over 1800 rushing yards with the Dolphins in '02. He is on pace for 1000+ this year as well.
No way he is a bust!!! Although trading the entire draft for him was a stupid move by Dikta. - duggiephresh, on 10/22/2009, -1/+9You forgot Jamarcus Russell.
- bossm4n, on 10/22/2009, -1/+6Andre' Ware probably belongs near the top of that list. He's a great guy and was an awesome college QB, and a Heisman Trophy winner, but a certified NFL bust.
- immatellyouwhat, on 10/22/2009, -0/+3"Westbrook also dabbled in mixed martial arts and recently appeared on the MTV series Bully Beatdown as the cage fighter who gave a bully a beatdown."
Thanks for clearing up what Bully Beatdown was about. - athinnes, on 10/22/2009, -1/+4Ki-Jana Carter anyone?
- thaguru, on 10/22/2009, -0/+3dishonorable mention for Rae Carruth (27th overall 1997 draft):
62 catches / 800+ yards / 4 TDs....18 to 24 years in prison
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rae_Carruth
Maurice Clarett ought to be included, except he wasn't drafted - frequentFlyer, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2I saw Bosworth at a party in LA once - he looked smaller than I imagined him to be.
- inactive, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2The Boz wasn't terrible, he actually produced some decent numbers. Just because Bo Jackson scored on him one time doesn't mean he sucked. And Tim Couch fought a massive shoulder injury from getting sacked 1000 times in Cleveland; later, he took steroids to help recover. Buried as inaccurate.
- VintageRudy, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2- Joey Harrington
- Ontario Smith - jdeane, on 10/22/2009, -1/+3Of course, I meant to use a question mark instead of a period. :-/
- aosmitty, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2I think another interesting list would be the last 15-20 Heisman winners and where they are(n't) now. I think Heisman winner performance is worse than the SI and Madden jinxes combined.
- HamSandwich, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2Maurice Clarett was drafted in the 3rd round, dude.
- athinnes, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2Well the Bengals were the worst team of the 90s. You don't get that title without making bad draft picks.
And people tackle leading with their heads all the time. This was a freak accident. I feel really bad for the guy and am glad he's not on this list. - sigmaman2, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2Well, he maybe wasn't a bust in the NFL, but he got busted while he was in the NFL.
- therealrico, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Wasn't exactly a bust in the NFL now was he? The point of the article isn't crazy psychotic NFL players who ruined their careers, it was players with high expectations who couldn't hack it at the pro level.
- thesed, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Clarett
wakka wakka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - SooperSonic, on 10/22/2009, -1/+2Looks like a majority of these busts have done all right for themselves off the gridiron - except for Leaf, Phillips & Marijuanovich.
- DeviantDragon, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1How about Alex Smith, hm? Niners could've had Rodgers but passed. Then again, who knows? Maybe it was the Niners at the time that caused Smith to turn out how he did.
- thaguru, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1I'd argue he was a bust, 1st team All-America, 1st round pick, spent much time injured before his crime and arrest...compare to other WRs who are certified busts:
Charles Rogers (2nd overall 2003) 36 rec 440 yds 4 TDs
Mike Williams (10th overall 2005) 44 rec 549 yds 2 TDs - jaykoo21, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1I'd probably even go so far to say that he'd be a perennial probowler if he hadn't decided to take a couple of years off in retirement to smoke weed without having to fear a drug test. I know I would be starting him over Ronnie Brown if I knew I could trust him.
- hillbillyboy07, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1Couch's O-Line was definitely the problem not him.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1The Heisman isn't given for pro potential...
- adamward, on 10/22/2009, -1/+1I'd welcome Ryan Leaf back to Pullman anytime. He's still the man.
- inactive, on 10/22/2009, -0/+0lol
- sigmaman2, on 10/22/2009, -3/+2JaMarcus will pick it back up as soon as he gets traded. Same goes for McFadden and Heyward-Bey. If they can leave the Raiders soon enough, they'll be superstars.
- OddBrian, on 10/23/2009, -1/+0That most of the busts on there belong to the Bengals doesn't surprise me. Heck, you could trace it back to 1979 with the Throwin' Samoan, Jack Thompson.
And, yah, Ki-Jana Carter belongs on there too. As does David Pollack (and before uptight Bengals apologists jump on me for his broken neck, let me remind them that YOU NEVER TACKLE LEADING WITH YOUR HEAD!). - jdeane, on 10/22/2009, -7/+3I probably would have included Ditka's boy, Ricky Williams.
Though I'm not sure if he's been a bust. Does being suspended repeatedly for violating the NFL's "substance abuse policy" count as being a bust.
