- rivviepop, on 12/25/2008, -1/+37News flash - the 2nd amendment has been affirmed, they make it sound like owning 2 pistols and some ammo is the worst thing since Paris Hilton. A 30ot6, 9mm and 45 ACP are like a starter collection!
- PadenX, on 12/24/2008, -5/+32pew pew!
- Christianptriot, on 12/24/2008, -13/+37Why anyone would choose to live in a state or city where they actually make you REGISTER to exercise your rights. Wonder if the state Gov is considering registrations for Free Speech as well.
It is obvious that gun registration does not work - that is why new York is a top crime city every year. - blugill, on 12/25/2008, -5/+26Sheesh, where i live you can have all of that and LOTS more without registering anything.
The only thing I can fault Plax for is not knowing the fascist laws in that oppressive state. - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+20Last I checked, we had a right to bear arms.
How is this an issue? - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -3/+22i dont mean to sound like a guntard...
but we should be allowed to have those guns without any government interference...
in california automatic weapons and certain high caliber handguns are illegal....
which is *****...
whats the point of having a gun if it cant shoot really really fast or really big bullets? - deaker, on 07/28/2009, -0/+19Wait....a pistol, a rifle and a 'clip' (magazine) for another pistol is a "small cache" of weapons?
I hope they never come here. I might make the front page of ESPN.com. Who am I kidding, this is my only way to get on ESPN.com, come on over. - Dou6, on 12/25/2008, -1/+19I have no doubt that they aren't registered. Likely he purchased them in Florida, brought them to NJ with him, and now it's going to be a big deal since NJ has unconstitutional laws. He would have had zero issues when he played in Pittsburgh since PA has excellent gun laws, but the fascists are looking to stamp that out quickly. Also, his FL concealed carry permit would have been recognized in PA too.
Sad that so many people in this country think that someone is "crazy" or should be considered as running afoul of the law if they have weapons and ammunition in their home.
To those not clear, in NJ, you have to acquire a permit just to PURCHASE a gun and have it in your home. I am glad I live in a state where I can buy and sell firearms with zero input from the state. Unfortunately new purchases require a federal background check, but nothing the state can do about that. - Ne007, on 12/25/2008, -5/+21Last I knew we were aloud to have guns and weapons in our house in the United States of America....
- DaDrake, on 12/25/2008, -0/+15Be black and scary looking (no joke.... paint a hunting rifle black and attach a flashlight to the barrel with duck tape and you got yourself an assault weapon in California.)
Anti-gunners are simply trying to slowly entrench gun rights so that the public is more acceptable to another limitation. Eventually, there will be no right. - oboshoe, on 12/25/2008, -0/+15Two guns and a magazine?
I havent had that few guns since I was a child. - oboshoe, on 12/25/2008, -0/+15Oh how freaking lame.
This "WEAPONS CACHE" consisted of one 9mm, a hunting rifle and magazine for a .45
One handgun and one hunting rifle is *NOT* a weapons cache.
*AND* they were in his home.
This is not a news event. This is just someone who needs a few more guns to be like most Americans. - v0ider, on 12/25/2008, -0/+15His house is in New Jersey, but the firearms laws suck just as bad as NYC.
- DaDrake, on 12/25/2008, -1/+14Driving a car is a privilege and not a right (they hammer that point real well in driving ed).
Owning a firearm is a right and outlined in the bill of rights.
The reason why people oppose firearm registration is because those list only assist governments when they further restrict citizen's right. .... well..... restrict lawful citizens since criminals don't bother to register their guns (I know... really odd .... they also seem to ignore those no-gun signs in front of banks). - Richandler, on 12/25/2008, -0/+13But it is an example of the rulers assuming Plaxico is guilty until proven innocent. Seizing weapons because they're unsure whether they are registered or not.
- Richandler, on 12/25/2008, -0/+13It's ironic you make that comparison too because cars kill more people each year than guns do.
- DaDrake, on 12/25/2008, -0/+13Compare to his collection --- I must be a national security risk.
- poptartrevival, on 12/25/2008, -0/+13What I'm curious is about the way they wrote he had a small weapons cache. Two guns and some ammo, that's a cache? That's a saturday night out in the country!
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=976044&l ... - cweave, on 12/24/2008, -3/+16Just saw this on ESPN. Plaxico I'm kinda starting to feel bad for you. It must suck to be soooo stupid.
- oboshoe, on 12/25/2008, -0/+12I can only fault Plaxico for not using a proper holster and for not having the sense to stay out of a ***** like NJ.
Only mobsters and corrupt politicians are allowed to carry guns in NJ/NY. - Dimensio, on 12/24/2008, -5/+16I had been under the impression that New York City's stingent firearms controls existed specifically to make such a situation impossible.
- oboshoe, on 12/25/2008, -1/+12Read about Heller vs District of Columbia.
Your arguments have been ruled incorrect by the Supreme Court. - Ishiguro, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11So, what exactly does a gun do to make itself illegal?
- Dou6, on 12/25/2008, -0/+11Last I checked, the constitution did not define what a legal weapon is.
- joel8x, on 12/25/2008, -1/+12@rft3rd
Your pompous attitude makes my post very easy to write. It is written in very plain English. See the part about "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"? It means the people have the right to protect themselves with weapons. The well regulated militia does not mean just the National Guard, the Army, the Air Force, etc. It means that in order for a country to be truly free, the people have to have the power to protect themselves not only from foreign threats, but from a tyrannical government. Remember the Boston Tea Party? There is a prime example of keeping a government in check. If you can't fight an oppressor, then you can't be free.
I respect people who don't like guns or any kind of weapons and choose not to own or carry them. There is nothing wrong with that. For some people though, life is too important to let other people make certain decisions for you such as inflicting real harm on you or your loved ones.
BTW, I'm far from a right wing gun nut. I just believe that once you get lax on anything in the Bill of Rights, you will lose the other rights, guaranteed. - st33ve0, on 12/25/2008, -5/+159mm handguns and .30-06 rifles aren't illegal in the US...although apparently he's in NY where commies think guns are bad and don't place the blame on stupid people so they ban inanimate objects instead. Has our country learned nothing from the prohibition?
- thegrantman, on 12/25/2008, -3/+13Basically,he just shot himself again.
- DaDrake, on 12/25/2008, -1/+11Actually you are totally wrong.
Stevens actually corrected the DC lawyer who used the modern-day-term of "regulated" interchangeably with the Bill of Rights 2nd Amendment. Steven was the one who wrote the dissenting opinion in the case (so he isn't pro-gun).
Regulated in the late 1700s ment WELL ARMED .... NOT .... controlled. Just like how the word "gay" has changed meaning, so has the word regulated.
Also the constitution states ALL men, by default, are part of the militia.
And the National Guard wasn't created for nearly 100 years after the constitution.
And it is obvious you never read the Federalist papers (makes the founding fathers view on the 2nd amendment absolute clear.).
You can disagree with the 2nd amendment.... say the founding fathers were complete idiots.... or argue that it has no prospect in the modern world. But DO NOT try to change History. But I am going to forgive your ignorance and assume you 1) never had a proper education and 2) just too damn lazy to learn about the history of your own nation. - keyforce, on 12/25/2008, -1/+11"Investigators are trying to determine whether the weapons are registered, so it is unclear whether Burress will face additional charges."
This is a very important distinction to be made, this is essentially a non-story until then. - FoxtrotUSAF, on 12/25/2008, -0/+10I don't think a hand gun and a rifle counts as a "cache".
- douggmc, on 12/25/2008, -1/+11Wrong ... the U.S Supreme Court has finally put to bed that argument this summer. The 2nd Amendment applies to individuals (i.e., the phrase "well regulated militia = an armed populace of citizens).
- KibblesnBitts, on 12/25/2008, -0/+10I'm just waiting for Heart to emerge
- douggmc, on 12/25/2008, -0/+9sorry champ .. i have a pretty keen sense of sarcasm and mr. dontgiveadamn's post is not on the sarcastic scale AT ALL. He .. like many others .. don't seem to understand that our forefathers put the right to bear arms in out Constitution FOR A PURPOSE. Do we debate the 1st Amendment? Would it be acceptable to you to get permission from George W. Bush before being allowed to post your thoughts on digg?
- babalukas, on 12/25/2008, -0/+9Of course you are aloud.
- oboshoe, on 12/25/2008, -0/+8@aja
Your arguments are compelling, but its about a different matter.
I maintain that he is fully within his rights to carry a weapon. That does come with responsibility as you point out. Furthermore, every American deserves this right, they same way the deserve the right of free speech, freedom of assembly etc.
I contend that his failure to use a proper concealed holster which resulting in a negligent discharge did endanger innocent people is a crime, but a separate matter.
Unfortunately, in backwards states like NY and NJ, simply carrying a weapon which is his god given right has been criminalized in addition to improperly using it.
Thats not even getting into the matter, than this hunting rifle and common 9mm weapon were safe and sound IN HIS HOME. That is only a crime in a small few backward states that includes his home state of NJ. - elipabst, on 12/25/2008, -0/+8'cause he's keepin' it real, yo!
- blugill, on 12/25/2008, -1/+9Oklahoma
- oboshoe, on 12/25/2008, -2/+10How about.
"Your honor. My client is an American who is entitled to his civil rights" - rft3rd, on 12/25/2008, -1/+8He has the right to legally own a gun. He also has the right to shoot himself in the leg and insert his head into his ass.
- keyforce, on 12/25/2008, -1/+8Yet another moronic poster who cannot read the article. Sad....so sad.
- figec, on 12/25/2008, -0/+7I am not a lawyer, but here it goes: Handgun registration in New Jersey is voluntary and most handguns are technically unregistered in New Jersey. Like you said, you MUST have a permit to purchase a handgun, and you cannot purchase a handgun from another state and transport it into New Jersey without obtaining a purchaser's permit; if you purchase out of state, you must have that dealer send the handgun to another dealer in New Jersey where you present your permit to purchase. Sadley, when you purchase a handgun, its serial number is recorded at the point of sale and de facto registered but not de jure registered.
The only way I know you can legally possess a handgun in New Jersey without having had its serial number recorded somewhere is when you inherit a handgun that was never recorded. In that case, case law is such that you have to show a will that explicitly states you inherit the gun or the court will assume you purchased it and transported it into New Jersey without a purchaser's permit.
The longarm he had never has to be recorded anywhere. You need to have a New Jersey firearm purchaser's ID card to possess it while not hunting or shooting at a range/gun club, however. The funny thing is that pellet/BB handguns are treated just like regular handguns. Paintball currently gets a pass because the caliber of the popular models are larger than the antiquated standards set out by New Jersey law that defines what a firearm is (.68 calliber?).
To be clear: the gun laws in New Jersey are not intuitive and I have a low opinion of them. - badqat, on 12/24/2008, -7/+14Aw, Plaxico...you just don't learn, do you?
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -3/+10In general they are ignorant. Rarely attending school if at all.
They just ride thier talent, being rich and stupid.
There are exceptions. - Ishiguro, on 12/25/2008, -2/+9The real question, is why do you think he should have to register his guns?
Oh, and what is this "clip" thing for the .45 they mention in the article? - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+6Why the hell didn't he just register his guns? I don't get this. He has assistants to do the paper work, fans in the police force. He probably would have been fast tracked for a "concealed" permit. Why, why, why?
- DaDrake, on 12/25/2008, -1/+7rth3rd must have a thick head.
Regulated means WELL ARMED. An unregulated individual would be an individual without a firearm.... a regulated individual would be an individual with many firearms.
The meaning of the word HAS CHANGED. This is why Stevens (guy who was a dissenting voice in DC vs Heller) corrected the lawyer when he made the same fallacy; to say otherwise essentially means you know NOTHING about constitutional law and is intellectually dishonest (while stevens isn't pro-gun, he wasn't about to be the laughing stock of constitutional scholars).
Do you get it or do you need some picture book to help explain it? - Spuy767, on 12/25/2008, -0/+6Learn to move to a more constitution friendly state. I'm glad the cops didn't raid my house or they'd have found quite a lot more.

I guess the big difference between me and Burress is that I know not to go into a night club with any one of those shoved into my trousers. I mean, What's to stop it blowing my bollocks off every time I sit down? - imdandman, on 12/25/2008, -0/+6We are tied for the 50th worst gun laws in the country according to the Brady Campaign! Lol. I love it!
- rockon4life45, on 12/25/2008, -0/+6That is unconstitutional maybe we can make some good out of this case by pointing out those laws and having them stand up to review.
- cathpah, on 12/25/2008, -0/+5when keeping it real, goes wrong.
