- Eldorian, on 11/07/2009, -2/+33Wow Urban Meyer, where was your criticism when the refs gave you the game over Arkansas?
- bubba9999, on 11/07/2009, -0/+30He's right though - the SEC refs have been pretty incompetent this year on all fronts. It's ridiculous that the SEC tries to bully its way out of being criticized by levying fines like this.
- Eldorian, on 11/07/2009, -1/+15You do realize what freedom of speech really means right? Think about it a bit.
- DirtPile, on 11/07/2009, -2/+14This is not a first amendment issue.
- Bigeggsandwich, on 11/07/2009, -5/+16So whatever happened to freedom of speech? Being fined for criticism is BS. Especially when it's warranted.

http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/sec_re ... - rwbrinso, on 11/07/2009, -0/+9The SEC has just backed themselves in a corner at this point, and they're going to end up fining the entire conference by the time the season's over. But hey, at least Tebow's pulling the Heisman!
- boozedrinker, on 11/07/2009, -7/+15He should stop the trash talk and just go straight for the eye poke....
- bobburn1, on 11/07/2009, -0/+8Private organizations can reprimand private individuals within their organization as they see fit. Don't like it? They can leave the SEC.
- UberNick, on 11/07/2009, -1/+8True, but what does Meyer have to say about it? "Damn you refs for making sure we're not a 2-loss team!"
- master69better, on 11/07/2009, -1/+5I thought the SEC gameplan was to get the refs to screw everybody BUT Florida and Alabama this year
- itschrisgetit, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3Ok, someone has to be able to criticize the refs. And it probably should be the coaches and players.
- pernotto99, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3he got fined my yearly salary. ouch.
- iBleeedOrange, on 11/07/2009, -5/+7The fact remains that he gets 90% of the calls, the SEC refs are just as corrupt as the NBA refs are.
- Kungfumantis239, on 11/07/2009, -2/+4This is BS. It was true, they missed a clear late hit call on Tebow.
- aprycot, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2As a Florida alum, I was very critical over the call... I thought it was total BS. It isn't just Florida, though. ***** calls all over the SEC this season.
- bobburn1, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3SHHH. Those were perfectly great calls (for the ref who had bet Florida on the point spread).
- 3tcp, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Thirty thousand is overkill and I think it is just a stupid idea to fine coaches for expressing their opinions.
- sd2001, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Did you RTFA? Myer is the coach of the highest ranked team and he's the one that just got fined.
- bobburn1, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1It's more like the highest ranked/will they cover the point spread? that the refs care about.
- bobburn1, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2It's not the SEC being poor, its that several of them are on the take. Making personal foul calls not seen by anyone or any camera, holding penalties on guys not even near the play and on their backs, etc near the END of games on drives that affected the point spread lend me to believe we've got something much worse than poor officiating in the SEC right now.
- demooo, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2The refs publicly acknowledged their incorrect calls. Then again, it was days later.
I'm hoping we(Arkansas) win today at least. - ElSnuggles, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1I agree. The SEC refs have been the worst refs of any conference this season.
- aprycot, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1uh maybe... What about Ingram?
- Bigeggsandwich, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Yes good point, I concede (the speech bit). It's still lame to fine people for speaking out, rules or not. If the SEC is worried about their integrity (guessing the reason for the rule in the first place) then they should step up with better reffing. Just my opinion like the bazillion others on digg.
- willgetin, on 11/09/2009, -0/+0How about this conspiracy:
This was a preplanned bad call. The refs missed it on purpose, Urban sent it in on purpose, Slive fined him on purpose, just to show that the SEC and the commish are not in a "Lets help the Gators" conspiracy.
Funny thing is, bad calls have always been made. Its just that with the number of cameras and video techniques available, it is much easier to see the bad calls and criticize them. - nachochease, on 11/07/2009, -6/+5The highest ranked teams get all the calls. It's all about TV ratings and the money they bring in. You can't have a #1 ranked team lose, it's bad for business.
- urdade, on 11/08/2009, -1/+0Oh urbie, football refs is what college is really about!
- WiseGuy1020, on 11/07/2009, -5/+3***** Tebow
- H3BR3W, on 11/07/2009, -4/+1He's just crying that his boyfriend took a shot. That's not incompetence on the refs' part. It's football. The SEC officials have been just fine this year. The worst they've screwed up is those excessive celebration calls in the Georgia/LSU game.
- cyberclown, on 11/07/2009, -7/+1The whole college system stinks. These kids should be getting paid to play and be able to sign contracts with agent while still in school.
