- SooperSonic, on 10/19/2009, -1/+28Shows just how far USF has come - or how far the Bucs have fallen.
- mafiax, on 10/20/2009, -0/+20I'm going to make a wild guess and bet that the NFL tickets are considerably more expensive.?
- ralphodog, on 10/20/2009, -1/+12I was under the impression that college football games consistently outsold NFL games.
- mkriss5681, on 10/19/2009, -1/+10Meanwhile, LA is whistling to itself.
- CB810, on 10/20/2009, -0/+8USF football has only been Division 1A for 8 years...
- Ajajadude, on 10/20/2009, -1/+9Nope, but they made it to their first bowl game quicker than any team in the NCAA.
- Ajajadude, on 10/20/2009, -0/+6Yes, because we all know every single school has a football program the moment the school is opened.
The football program only started in 1997. Last I checked, the Bucs have been around a little longer than that. - gdo01, on 10/20/2009, -1/+7Wait until after October is done to say that. Over the last 2 years, October has been the month when the soaring undefeated USF falls back down to Earth with a streak of losses.
- CB810, on 10/19/2009, -7/+13USF is joining the elite with Miami, Florida & FSU...
- Jeepinator, on 10/20/2009, -0/+5They do as even the smaller college stadiums are bigger than most NFL stadiums. Even the new Dallas stadium only seats 80,000 (111,000 w/ standing) as opposed to many colleges having 100,000+ seats. Of course in the NFL stadiums you actually have a chair to yourself rather than a 1 foot wide section of a bench.
- bubbameister33, on 10/20/2009, -0/+5I'm saying this as a Panthers fan.
- Javes, on 10/20/2009, -0/+5Except Michigan stadium holds 40,000 more people than Ford Field. The fact that a college team drew more people in the same stadium than an NFL team is what makes this a story.
- inactive, on 10/20/2009, -0/+4*****, the Giants/Saints game was on. What true football fan would want to watch one of the most boring match-ups possible when they could watch 2 undefeated teams play? I like the Cowboys, but if they were 0-5 and playing a team that was 1-3, id much rather be at home watching something like giants/saints.
- exec0extreme, on 10/20/2009, -4/+8Why don't you compare the attendance at a Lions game to that at a University of Michigan game, now there's a huge difference...
- sipsyrup, on 10/20/2009, -0/+3Sounds like someone needs to reduce ticket prices, or stop sucking.
- MidwestDrummer, on 10/20/2009, -1/+4Actually, it just shows how the USF fans only show up for the "big" games. Not counting the Cincy game, USF attendance had averaged under 40,000 fans per home game. What do you guess it's gonna average the rest of the season? I'll give you a hint. It's not 65,000!
- onpragu, on 10/20/2009, -2/+5Go Bulls!
- demonicume, on 10/20/2009, -0/+3college games always outdraw NFL games. School like Alabama and Tennessee draw 100k+ people 6 - 7 times a season. My Carolin Gamecocks draw 85k+ every week. Meanwhile, Panther's stadium doesn't even hold HALF than many people.
- MidwestDrummer, on 10/20/2009, -1/+4USF fans only show up for the "big" games. Not counting the Cincy game, USF attendance had averaged under 40,000 fans per home game. What do you guess it's gonna average the rest of the season? I'll give you a hint. It's not 65,000! Gloat all you want Bulls fans, but you don't show up to the other games on your team's schedule.
I do believe there rest of college football refers to you as fair weather or bandwagon fans. - SooperSonic, on 10/19/2009, -3/+5The Bulls already took care of the Seminoles this season & host Miami in late November, and then visit the Gators next season, so we'll see. I hope they do.
- ball4121, on 10/20/2009, -0/+2And how much longer has USF's football program been around compared to the Big 3's?
Bulls - '97
Miami - '26
FSU - '47
Gators - '06... as in 1906.
Exactly. - gkiltz, on 10/20/2009, -0/+2Keep in mind, also, College Football is either 5 home games or 6. of which 1-3 are essentially a foregone conclusion, against a school that is there for the paycheck and has no chance. 1 is homecoming.. That leaves 3 or 4 games that are really competitive, and 1 or occasionally 2 of those that really decide the season.
There are no actual exhibition games, and usually only one postseason game, a Bowl game. Some conferences have a conference championship game. Most don't So, you get essentially get 5 home games, and 1 or 2 away games in reasonable driving distance, and one bowl game.
In the NFL, there are 2 home pre-season games, 8 regular season home games, 1 or 2 road games in reasonable driving distance, and anywhere from 0-4 playoff games.
Also, given the other things that go on around a college football game, it is usually but not always more bang for the buck than pro football - lordmike, on 10/20/2009, -0/+21 foot wide? You get a whole foot to sit in? What luxury!!! Go to Notre Dame Stadium or Michigan Stadium or Ohio Stadium and you're luck y to get half a foot of space to sit your butt in!
- ThraxyWaxy, on 10/20/2009, -1/+3How much do the colleges in LA outdraw their NFL franchise...
- Markb3489, on 10/20/2009, -0/+2They are getting paid, they get a full ride athletic scholarship.
- MasterTroll, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1LOOOLLLL.....
- ImBaack, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Rush? Is that you?
- H3BR3W, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Or both.
- bubbameister33, on 10/20/2009, -5/+6If you have two crap teams playing against each other and nothing on the line, I'm watching that ***** on T.V. not paying for it.
- tectonix, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1michigan doesn't play in the lions arena... big 10 ppl, gotta explain everything to them up there.
- AddiX, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1A full ride athletic scholarship? As if it costs the school any money? Or as if they are getting a "real education"? everyone knows they go to schools like Alabama to play football and thats it, the students, the staff, and the teachers all play along with it. If you play D1 football most likely your getting a joke of an education. More than half of these guys barely passed high school yet you think their going to Alabama to become financial analysis?
Meanwhile these schools are making a killing, some of these stadiums sell out 80K seats. - jseres, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Kids go to UF because it's the toughest public college to get into in the entire ***** state. Not only that it isn't located in that ***** known as Miami. If I wanted to get mugged I would move back to Jersey...
- Coreyc150, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1a lot of people are really into college football, which never made sense to me... A bit like being really into minor league baseball. Ill stick to the major leagues, thanks.
- piratearggghhh, on 10/20/2009, -1/+2Nice job firing Gruden Bucs
- Jeepinator, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1In the student section I get about 8 inches to stand on.
- gkiltz, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1I have heard that one of the big screen TV sellers in the DC area is offering free sledge hammers to Redskins fans.
Is there a similar program in the Tampa Area? - lordmike, on 10/20/2009, -1/+2Why is that a surprise? USF has a better football team.
- MidwestDrummer, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1LMAO!! Travel across the state? What is this, high school football playoffs? Son, you're talking to a Husker fan, who's team's fan travel across the country!! You've got some learnin' to do son.
- andibarnes, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Looks like the Bucs only sold out 'home' game this season is going to be next week, when they play at Wembley! Unfortunately I'm guessing the game isn't goint to be quite as good as last years, which is annoying as the tickets cost me a lot more
- agentsrecord, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Speaking that nosebleed seats are usually over $100 bones alone, I think you might be on to something...
- Ajajadude, on 10/20/2009, -0/+1Given how rapidly they've progressed over the past several years, it's hard to say that. Especially given that UofM is at the bottom of the barrel of the "big" 3.
- V3n0M, on 10/20/2009, -1/+1Or maybe people wanted to see Cincinnati who is ranked 5 in the BCS poll and on their way to vie for the National Championship!!
- Jeepinator, on 10/20/2009, -2/+2Not even close. Until they start playing the best teams in football regularly and win, they won't be up there with the likes of Florida.
- V3n0M, on 10/20/2009, -1/+1It's not about the Buccaneers or USF - everybody just wants to see Cincinnati on their way to a National Championship!
- errik03, on 10/20/2009, -5/+5Go bulls! ***** yea
who else is from tampa? - tectonix, on 10/20/2009, -3/+3USF will never be in the same category as those schools. this is more of floridians loving college football more then NFL sports.
- tectonix, on 10/20/2009, -1/+1No, its located in a ***** called gainesville in the middle of no where that's much better. Everything about Miami is better then UF, from academics and sports right down to the girls. If you knew anything about it(which i doubt since Miami was probably out of the question from the get go for you), you would know it's located in one of the best and richest parts of Miami. Wouldn't expect you to know though, since are defending a second rate program to an elite one, sounds like a typical gator. It's a Canes thing, you wouldn't know.
- mmarktfsi, on 10/21/2009, -0/+0I'm not callin your school out or you for that matter. You shouldn't go calling every USF fan a bandwagon fan if they're willing to travel from end to end to watch their unranked team play rank 18 Florida State. Don't go ***** with that "Just because you're winning." attitude and consider that few expected USF to win that game, yet USF beat Florida State and the fans still showed up at Doak Campbell 12,000 strong.
