- ryan_merket, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14You just confirmed what everyone already knew.... Aggies can't spell.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So it's just determining the most talent, really. Which explains why the SEC ranks so highly... free talent ain't cheap.
- e03179, on 10/12/2007, -1/+75 of the top 9 teams were from the SEC including 3 of the top 4.
- hlwoodcock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I disagree... the lifeblood of college football is recruiting and you better believe that HS kids look at how many players particular colleges put into the NFL.
Your comment amounts to going to school and not caring about where previous alumni have gotten jobs... putting players into the NFL is of vital importance for the success of college football! - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Read the methodology. Just getting players onto the roster, especially starting rosters, even if they lose, is what counts. Especially if they were taken in a low round. Having lots of players getting chosen in the first few rounds that don't pan out really kills a program. This system rewards programs that have players taken in lower rounds that made the team, preferably one that had a winning record.
- sheared, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'd like to see the expanded list beyond the first 25.
- airship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25 Big Ten teams on the list, including the University of Iowa! WOOT!
Unfortunately, we're #5 of those five, coming in at #23 on the list overall.
Looks like the SEC kicks our collective ass on this one.
Grrr... Just wait 'till NEXT year!
Oh, and Nebraska sucks. ;) - ForfeitTheGame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's all changed. (See: the new tenure with Jim Tressel). Actually, it's just the opposite of what you said, except I don't think the Michigan teams are immensely talented.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All that really matters is that the Wahoos are ranked above the Hokies in at least one college ball list.
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Producing successful NFL players doesn't mean you have a better college football team. There are plenty of teams who have a lot of talent but don't play well enough as a team to have great success, as well as the opposite: teams with less 'nfl-worthy' talent, but have great coaching and smart, hard-working players, even if they don't have the most natural talent.
During the 90's, Ohio State (under John Cooper) produced a ton of NFL players, but they could never beat michigan and win their bowl games and couldn't win a national championship even when they had a ridiculous amount of talent (see 1998) - VMark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Is this something really to brag about if you are a college or an alumni? Take for instance North Carolina. They rarely do anything during the college season, but tend to have a few outstanding athletes who can make the jump to the NFL
Isn't the point of college football to win games and not to make NFL stars? - BeachSide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@wilf_brim
So your saying that Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore (got injured so I'll concede that one) Jeremy Shockey, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Vince Wilfork, Jonathan Vilma, etc... should be considered under the likes of John Henderson & Gibril Wilson (U of Tenn) Odell Thurman & George Foster (U of GA) Cooper Carlisle & Mike Peterson (U of FL)
Sorry I cannot agree with that. if I remember correctly, in 2005 Miami had more starters in the NFL than any other one college in the nation. (I could be wrong on that one though it may have been 2004) - Reidtheweed01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah thats why his dumbass got fired. Two straight years he went into the ohio state v. michigan game undefeated and lost both times.
- utdrew182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1even better 3 of the top 4 are SEC East, undefeated out of that division is like 4 rounds of playoffs as a low seed.
- crex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go Blue!
I have to brag that I'm a student at Michigan and was there for the Super Mario touchdown. Note to Joe-Pa, kick the ball away from Steve Breaston, away.
And to think my parents want me to go to Penn State. - nosmelc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sure it's something to brag about, who doesn't want to play for a program that has a reputation for producing good NFL players. Look at NC State or Virginia, they produce their fair share of NFL players(Philip Rivers, Torry Holt, etc.) but they aren't great college teams. Would a kid rather play for Georgia or Georgia Southern? Both programs are very good and contend for their league title most years but one cranks out more NFL players than the other.
- danlucas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sure it's something to brag about. Something like this can be used to attract potential players basically by saying yes, you can go somewhere that has had a little more success than us, but here you'll actually learn how to play football and be more valuable in the NFL draft. I mean that probably won't convince a potential Longhorn to become a Tar Heel, but it might convince a player not to go to NC State and go to UNC instead.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Awwww Yea,
Penn State on the board. And people know Larry Johnson is the man. It's a shame that people only think of busts from PSU when they go pro; like Kajana Carter orKerry Collins. - Chuck95, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"You just confirmed what everyone already knew.... Aggies can't spell."
HEY! I resimble that remarke!
Gig'em - ForfeitTheGame, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't see how FSU is #1. Their NFL talent is not near the top. I still think the new draft class will make OSU #1 in a year or two. I also dislike how points were taken away because of one bust (Clarett) out of many successes.
It's clear that the best NFL talent comes from Miami of Florida, despite how much I dislike the school. Gotta give props to them. Must be because they pick those canes down there. - BeachSide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Call me biased but I just CANNOT believe that Michigan and Tennessee are ranked above my team Miami(FL)
Miami consistently produces solid NFL players year after year.
They should have made the top 5 for sure! - TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I love how nowhere in football sucess is academics considered.
What they should do is factor in how much a player makes over their career, and how quickly after retirement they blow it all. - rapptech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Luckily, the only numbers that count are on the scoreboard :)
- BuckraMega, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Go Blue!
I am stuck in Nebraska, unfortunately. It was really bad for a while after the bowl game last year.
Draftniks are always down on Michigan guys come draft day but it seems they frequently surprise everyone and become solid everyday starters or better. - Hodgins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Kerry Collins wasn't a bust. He was a solid QB for a few years and took a team to the Super Bowl, even though i don't like that team(NY Giants) because the Eagles rule.
- wolverinegod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2GO BLUE!!!
- ell0bo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I assume you just missed the white in there in your hurry to get the comment in. That's ok, I'll help you out here... GO BLUE and WHITE!!! WE ARE, Penn State! A drinking school with a football problem :)
- wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Go Bucks!!!
- auburnguy1000, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4War Eagle!
- briman1001, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I knew as soon as I saw this that FSU would be on top.
GO NOLES. - worthbak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Rocky Top baby! Go Vols!
- menacingcheese, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Nice to see my two alma maters (FSU and Georgia) are in the top 3.
