- FirstCuts, on 10/21/2009, -0/+28Dante Wesley's hit deserved more than a 1 game suspension.
- PVanderVossen, on 10/21/2009, -0/+14There is a thin line between "cheap" and "nice hit". Normally I side with "nice hit" but some of these are obviously cheap.
- casspa, on 10/21/2009, -0/+11Agreed, it's awful to think that if the hit would ended Clifton's career/season then they penalty would have been more severe. But because he was able to walk off dude only gets one game.
- rockon4life45, on 10/22/2009, -0/+10IIRC Hines Ward said he'd do that hit again and thought nothing was wrong with it.
I also heard Hines Ward eats babies, but I heard that from a Browns Fan..... - CB810, on 10/21/2009, -0/+9No *****, it was a freakin' assault
- lokee73, on 10/22/2009, -0/+8As much of a Seahawks fan as I am.... Even at the time I thought Stevens probably deserved the knee in the nuts.
- Skamal85, on 10/22/2009, -0/+7Honestly, I don't think half of these were "cheap shots" by any means. A lot of these hits were just momentum hits, or solid hits that one makes through the course of a game played in full speed.
It's unfortunate that some of the players here got hurt, no one wants to see that. But, lets not call a hard hit, or a low tackle where the defenders momentum carried him to someone's knees/foot, a cheap shot. It's unfortunate that they are in the game, but it's not intentionally malicious. - bills534, on 10/22/2009, -0/+6No cheap shot list is complete without Hines Ward.
http://imgur.com/CSv6e.gif - mikehayes19, on 10/21/2009, -0/+5The commentary in the Antoine Barnes hit - priceless
- TobiasParker, on 10/22/2009, -0/+5I disagree, trying to take out an opponents knees with your helmet is awful. I would have been mad too, that easily could have produced a career ending injury on Johnson.
- jkneis, on 10/22/2009, -0/+41) Cheap because he wasn't looking and hit him helmet to helmet before the ball was even close to him.
2) Way too late. It may not look like a hard hit, but how many times have you been hit by a DE that is 260+ pounds
3) Not sure how it is cheap on the DT.
4) Ray Lewis hit OchoCInco when the ball was clearly uncatchable.
5) Knee in the groin after the play.
6) Hitting a played when he isn't looking 30 yards away from the play is a cheap shot.
7) Not cheap, clean hit. Unfortunate injury.
8) Same as #1.
9) Really just an awesome, clean block.
10) Kinda dirty, but was slipping. Not on purpose, but still a dangerous play.
11) Very dirty. The ball wasn't even thrown to him and no linebacker ever needs to tackle a receiver low.
12) Helmet to helmet, but nothing intentionally violent.
Maybe top 7 1/2 cheap shots? - Congzilla, on 10/22/2009, -0/+4It was assault. Clifton looked dead, I was afraid he wasn't going to ever get up from that one. And, props to the refs for stopping an all out brawl and not throwing any flags on the Tampa players who left the bench. That Carolina guy is lucky he made it out of the stadium uninjured.
- merdiesel, on 10/22/2009, -0/+3He was knocked out attempting a hit that can be career ending... He's lucky hes laying unconscious.
- ThatsNotPudding, on 10/22/2009, -1/+4Dirtiest player in the last twenty years? Rodney Harrison FTW. He was even delighted to give a very old Joe Montana his last concussion. It sickens me to see him on TV now, ironically sitting next to one of the most decent men in the NFL.
- alvination, on 10/22/2009, -1/+4Screw Jared Allen.
- billjimbob, on 10/22/2009, -2/+5What a joke to call the play by Hines Ward (among others) a cheap shot. Defensive players get 10 hits a game on players, and they get blindsided once in their careers by an offensive player and they change the rule to make it illegal?
"The adoption of the Hines Ward rule now makes blindside blocks by wide receivers on the upper part of a defensive player's body illegal."
So what, you're supposed to go after their legs? Then it's a chop-block. Where exactly are you supposed to block them? Basically, the NFL is saying "don't hit them too hard"... which is a joke. - shaelen, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2I don't understand that site.. More than half of those hits were not "cheap shots," they were simply players playing the game. And what was with Gus Frerotte flopping so hard after a simple bump? What is this, soccer?
- RansomHoldiay, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2no but i misread your comment because the first time through i thought "no... he couldn't have meant that." but i was wrong. i just don't understand why you would let all of us know?
- phyx726, on 10/22/2009, -1/+3If there ever was a person who deserved a kick to the balls, its Jerramy Stevens.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/20 ... - cptcliche, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2Seriously. It seems like they're going for the 'good analyst, bad analyst' routine.
- IKORKYI, on 10/22/2009, -1/+3you haven't played football. you try to hit the other person as hard as you possibly can. if you hold back, you put yourself at risk for injury. there are rules that govern when you cannot hit someone and there is good reason...but you don't consider hitting someone "softer" cause it may hurt them - you consider hitting them or not hitting htem.
- Congzilla, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2Your an idiot, hitting someone that has signaled a fair catch and is staring up into the sky to catch the ball is definitely a cheap shot.
- Malnilion, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1I agree with the above replies, Trent Green had it coming. Plus, there's no way Travis Johnson could have known how bad Green was hurt that soon after the play ended. I've seen players injured on more than one occasion from receiving chop blocks. They are nasty and potentially season/career-ending.
Just because Keith Olbermann says something doesn't make it true. I'd probably shout something like, "That's what you get, *****," at a dude if he chop-blocked me and injured himself. - thegreat59, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1"I'm gonna take a hit on their kicker and see how they like that" Laughed my ass off.
- whatthefu, on 10/22/2009, -1/+2You have to gauge their intent. If they lead with the helmet/shoulder in a way that could cause horrible damage to the person taking the hit (especially if that person could easily be taken down with a normal tackle), that's a cheap hit.
- athinnes, on 10/22/2009, -2/+3It WAS helmet to helmet and Ocho didn't have the ball. This is illegal. Watch the actual video and look up the rule morons.
- BenRoth, on 10/22/2009, -3/+4I'm not sure what was cheap about Ray Lewis's hit on Ochocinco.
- paulvq, on 10/22/2009, -1/+2This guy writes like he's pissed off at everyone.
- muzza001, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1yeah that is true. it really didn't, but it's the best quality yotube vid i could find lol
- bmiami69, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1oo the name calling aint flattering. just cause you might have been on that end of a hit doesnt make it cheap. those hits cost money and the defense coach would be furious if his defensive players played like babies. hit and pay and move on.
- IKORKYI, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1that was potentially career ending for Johnson...had Green been OK and Johnson ripped his knee up you would be saying the exact opposite thing.
- Ghstfce, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Did it really need the "booty-doo" music in the background? It doesn't match the sport at all.
- Taddare, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1They're delicate, special little flowers. You are supposed to ask them politely to stop.
- AD7GD, on 10/22/2009, -4/+4This is more like "12 worst shots I could find easily on youtube".
- jkneis, on 10/21/2009, -3/+3The Travis Johnson one is pretty bad. Trent Green should never have tried to chop block him, but yelling at him unconcious was uncalled for.
- smack1700, on 10/22/2009, -3/+3Nothing. Just because Ray knocked him down HARD they assume it's cheap. They try to say helmet-to-helmet, but I dunno, looked like a good hit
- bhxinfected, on 10/22/2009, -3/+2Terrible post. There was nothing cheap about the hit on 85.. Lewis was just playing the damn game.. Is this not a contact sport anymore?
- bmiami69, on 10/22/2009, -2/+1Cheap? there is no such thing as a cheap shot. These players are being paid alot to hit the hell out of the opponents
- muzza001, on 10/22/2009, -2/+1Yo NFL - I'm really Happy for you and Ima let you finish but,
Rugby League has some of the biggest hits of all time! (without shoulder pads and helmets)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmk6IHPEyAY&fea ... - athinnes, on 10/22/2009, -3/+1You obviously have no idea what NFL rules designate as illegal and legal when it comes to contact *****.
- athinnes, on 10/21/2009, -10/+7Buried for advocating cheap shots on Ochocinco. Yeah the guy talks, but does he harm anything? No.
Ray's shot was completely uncalled for and lost the game for the Ravens. Lewis should be used to fines though, he did get one for MURDERING SOMEONE. - vspazv, on 10/22/2009, -6/+1Anyone else misread the title as cheap seats?
