- KDX200rider, on 12/29/2008, -15/+459I think he misunderstood why they threw him out, it wasn't because he was a Raiders fan, it was because he was from New Jersey.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -7/+364I'm thinking there is a lot more to this story then we're being let on to.
- IpecacNeat, on 12/29/2008, -8/+219I've worked for security at a major stadium, and we got people like this all the time, sans the arresting, detaining and searching. These are the guys enticing people, swearing or other things. Then they say they weren't doing anything. This is just one side. The security doesn't want to have to do work if they don't have to. They aren't going to throw someone out to give themselves more work. They also probably weren't die hard Tampa fans. After working at a stadium, your fandom gets tested. Along with the great fans, you also meet all the jerk fans that root for your team. If the security were Tampa fans, then they have probably been used to other fans rooting for the opposing team before. I doubt this guy was the first to show up and root for another team. This guy is full of *****.
- BradOFarrell, on 12/29/2008, -8/+130Consumerist.com lives in an alternate reality where inane ***** matters and there is only one side to every story.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -7/+106What do you expect? They are pirates after all.
- TWiThead, on 12/29/2008, -4/+76As noted by several Consumerist users, we're only hearing one side of the story. It seems rather far-fetched that this guy was detained and ejected because he cheered for the visiting team, so there probably are some inaccuracies/omissions in his account.
- richardhenry, on 12/29/2008, -7/+65"Considering he wrote a polite, coherent complaint letter only a couple hours after the game ended, we're inclined to believe him when says he wasn't drunk or abusive."
What a stupid statement. - inactive, on 12/29/2008, -9/+50something tells me steve is a jackass who was looking to get into a confrontation and the security was just protecting him
but then i could be wrong - sharkd, on 12/29/2008, -2/+42>> I was not intoxicated or found
>> to be in possession of any illegal
>> substances. I was not being verbally
>> or physically abusive to any other
>> fans or players.
I'm suspicious in that nowhere does it confirm that he was wearing pants. (Only colors.)
/just a theory - inactive, on 12/29/2008, -10/+47Its the consumerist, they'll post anything devoid of any real facts. Having scalped many many tickets for home games, its possible that the original ticket holder lost the tickets and somehow ended up in his possession illegally. However, its more than likely that the entire story is bs because you do not get ejected for no reason, the entire process of being escorted from the seat, frisked and finally ejected while nobody is saying anything as to why, doesn't make any sense.
Also, did he bring a camcorder? Was he taping things? While I don't understand this rule, I have been asked by attendants not to do it, or face ejection. - inactive, on 12/29/2008, -5/+41I have a strong feeling there is more to this story.
- Tacosdude, on 12/29/2008, -27/+58Anyone who has been to a Raiders game in Oakland that was cheering for the opposing team is fortunate not to leave with a black eye, at best...Count yourself lucky that at least the Tampa fans were kind to you...
- NeoCortex, on 12/29/2008, -0/+30Everyone knows you measure location by the exit off the Parkway.
- Cyrus042, on 12/29/2008, -0/+29Most raider fans are incarcerated, that's why.
- DulcetTone, on 12/29/2008, -2/+30I think I'll point out your misuse of an apostrophe and the fact that the first effort at a sentence is a fragment, and that the last sentence should be part of the preceding one, perhaps following a colon. And it's "wagon".
Over to you, Godwin's Law people! - theOster, on 12/29/2008, -5/+29exactly. as soon as i hear people say how they were "behaving themselves" it immediately says that they were *not* behaving themselves.
- JustinHopewell, on 12/29/2008, -0/+24Thanks, Tone. So, here we are in the fifth parent comment on this beautiful Monday morning. Before the break we watched as TGC made a quick evasive maneuver to preemptively counter the Godwin's Law Evokers, but it appears he came up *just* a bit short. Let's take a look at the replay.
- inigomntoya, on 12/29/2008, -0/+23Well put, Justin. As you can see right... HERE! "So the Nazi's have infiltrated Tampa."
There was just too much of everything. He hit too hard with bad grammar, a bad Nazi reference, and assumed that white supremacy wasn't in Tampa to begin with.
What he SHOULD have done is posted his comment, edited it, and then deleted it.
Tone? - CZzyzx41, on 12/29/2008, -1/+24Exactly. The very fact that he wrote a coherent complaint letter only proves there's no way he could have been a Raiders fan.
- richardhenry, on 12/29/2008, -9/+32It's appalling that Consumerist are happy to publish a letter slamming an organisation without any proof other than some random letter they received from some guy who may have never even attended the game.
If this was a smaller Internet company, press along the lines of this could ruin them. Buried. - inactive, on 12/29/2008, -7/+30I didn't even know the Raiders had fans
- saunders45, on 12/29/2008, -2/+22I have lived in tampa for 5 years now, and go to quite a few bucs games every season. This guy is full of crap. If anything, security is way too lenient. Against the giants in the playoffs last year, I saw Giants fans throwing cups of beer at other fans, and trying to start fights once they got ahead, and the 'security' guys just stood there. The only other time I've seen any issues with security was when the bears were in town a couple years ago.
- nattybohman, on 12/29/2008, -1/+21I can completely believe this story. Philadelphia fans are the dregs of pro-sport fans. They are no-class jerks during their home games and will boo their own team at the drop of a hat.
- shauncorleone, on 12/29/2008, -3/+22I'm not sure a Raiders fan knows how to just "root" for their team. Considering the environment an away fan endures at an Oakland home game, this is a little too ironic. Only a few years ago I saw the Redskins play in Tampa, and while I certainly caught a rather large ration of s*** from absolutely everyone around me, security certainly was never an issue. You have to remember that MOST people in that area have only been Bucs fans for the last 8 years or so.
- TheCamino, on 12/29/2008, -4/+23 Actually, it's not.
In most NFL stadiums, there are now 'call-in' and 'text-in' a bastard lines.
He could be ejected for simply cussing near kids... and some soccer mom decided that it was inappropriate.
There has been a lot of abuse with this policy, where a-hole fans have been 'ratting out' false events, because they think it's funny to see an opposing fan get 'cuffed and stuffed' from the stadium.
I am pretty sure that if they get complaints like this, then they need to observe the problem with security, instead of pitching others out. - diggopolous, on 12/29/2008, -4/+23"...he was from New Jersey." Oh yeah? Which exit on the tunpike?
- TimmyGUNZ, on 12/29/2008, -2/+20Their fans usually last a couple seasons before Davis fires them.
- atgmac, on 12/29/2008, -3/+21If you're handcuffed and placed in cell, that's false imprisonment.
- schniff, on 12/29/2008, -2/+19After the Phillies won against the Rays, a city cop told a guy on the subway wearing a Rays shirt to get off the train and get a cab because he did not want to be responcible for what could happen to him. After the guy said no, the cop said fine I will get off at the next stop and wish you the best of luck then. Needless to say the Rays fan rethought his initial decision to stay on the train.
- cawpin, on 12/29/2008, -1/+17Also, since when is "security" allowed to handcuff anybody? Oh yeah, they're not.
- smaier, on 12/29/2008, -2/+17This looks like a Consumerist publicity stunt to get page views and everyone digging this story is falling for it.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -9/+24Whatever dude, you're from Jersey and a Raiders fan. Giant Douche!
- brundlefly76, on 12/29/2008, -0/+14I'm certain there is nothing more to the story than the fan suggested.
It must have happened exactly as he explained it. - limmense, on 12/29/2008, -2/+16They have a new thing set up at Raymond James stadium where you can text about unruly fans to a stadium number. I wonder if some people around him texted incorrect things and he got thrown out for it.
http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2008/09/13/tampa-bay-enact ... - adoggz, on 12/29/2008, -1/+14well, I expect pirates to rape, pillage, and murder.
- itswhatilivefor, on 12/29/2008, -1/+14They need to handcuff and eject Jeff Garcia.....
- justok, on 12/29/2008, -0/+13They showed up, got spanked, went home.
- panic, on 12/29/2008, -1/+14I've been to a few Raiders games (usually quietly rooting for the opposing team because I'm not a Raiders fan). I've seen some of the craziest fights ever at those games, always against people wearing the opposing jerseys. One guy was dragged into the bathroom and beat senseless and pissed on by a bunch of people. Those guys are a bunch of degenerates.
- rayjitsu, on 12/29/2008, -5/+18I feel bad for this guy. He was denied a rare pleasure for Raiders fans this season - a win. Getting kicked out before the team won the game just added insult to injury.
- HappyScrappy, on 12/29/2008, -4/+14I wouldn't trust a Raiders fan to tell the truth about what really happened.
- inigomntoya, on 12/29/2008, -3/+13It doesn't matter...
- bobsmyhero, on 12/29/2008, -0/+9and boy were his arms tired!
- sjps220, on 12/29/2008, -1/+10I really doubt this. If security took issue with every fan cheering for the opposite side, they'd never get to stand around and do nothing.
Side note: did anyone watch the game? Carnell williams just returned this season from a knee injury early last year, and was starting to look good, and he injured a knee on a play in this game in a very similar way. Because of the way the mics were positioned, you could hear him screaming. He was slamming the ground and yelling "Are you ***** kidding me??". It was very sad. - TheCamino, on 12/29/2008, -1/+10
I agree with both posters.
I am just pointing out that douchebaggery can work in both directions. - cawpin, on 12/29/2008, -1/+9Sure they did.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -1/+9Not the Turnpike, the Parkway!!! The Turnpike doesn't run through the whole state!
- mikeyrock, on 12/29/2008, -4/+11Although I am tempted to agree with this I have witnessed fans getting thrown out just for rooting for the 'wrong team'.
As a Yankees fan in Boston it is interesting when going to games. I remember a Yankees v Redsox game where a Redsox fan threw a hot dog, toppings and all (right infront of a cop) and hit a Yankees fan in the back of the head with it. The Yankees fan turned around, gave the Redsox fan the finger, and was promptly escorted out by police. Little unfair if you ask me. - inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+7That's because the guy is full of ***** in the first place.
- FKnight, on 12/29/2008, -4/+11Are you under some whacked impression that Digg is some bastion of honest, unbiased, non-sensationalist news posts?
Sorry dude; if it bashes Bush or Gates or has even the smallest hint of the United States being a fascist regime, it gets posted on Digg -- the more sensationalist the article, the better. - EllimistX, on 12/29/2008, -1/+8Seems pretty real to me...
