- Singee15, on 05/07/2008, -1/+18$3 a minute seems like a deal to me.
- Chirp08, on 05/07/2008, -0/+14what the ***** is a "mln" when has anybody ever abbreviated million in any other way then "mil"
- ryaske, on 05/07/2008, -0/+8OP: who abbreviates million as mln? Try $3M
- khaavren, on 05/07/2008, -0/+8I wonder how much cheaper budweiser beer would be if they didn't spend all the money on superbowl commercials every year. Advertising prices like this just drive up the price of whatever service the advertisers are offering.
- anderzole, on 05/07/2008, -0/+6what a waste of money. Most super bowl ads aren't memorable. But I guess if you have 3 million bucks to throw around, you're not exactly in desperate need of money
- daizaru, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4hah, it's mLn but I thought the same thing when I first saw it. Horrible title.
- bardo77n, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3Big deal! The stupid politicians have screwed up the monetary systems so badly that, by the time 2009 comes around, $3 mil will probably only buy a tank of gas, a Diet RC Cola, and a Slim Jim.
- thanakar, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3I still remember the E-trade ( I think) commerical from a few years ago. "We just wasted $2 million dollars".
- lnxfi, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3Seriously, I can't imagine anyone thinking, "Oh! Budwiser! I've never heard of that before. I must go get it!"
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I think it's kind of a "keeping up with the Joneses" thing. The biggest advertisers in sports seem to be A) beer B) cars and C) investment services. Obviously there are top-tier companies in each area, and all buy SB ads... I think they fear falling to the 2nd tier if they don't trod out a new ad every year.
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2If someone paid me 3M I would run onto the field at the Superbowl naked with their logo painted all over my body while shouting their slogan.
- Bing11, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Is it just me, or is deciding the price this far in advance a bit premature? What if the two least-watched teams make it to the bowl, and thus it gets lowest-ever ratings?
- dafragsta, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2mln... someone is trying to invent shorthand for something that already has a shorthand. $3M would've worked just fine.
- Pssdoff, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Probably something like 70% cheaper if there were no advertising. I know that a Nike shoe's cost is 70% advertising.
- maexus, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Or it could be they know companies will pay any price to have superbowl ad air time.
- musntSurfatWork, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I already buy and drink beer. No need for new ads. Save your money.
- greenlight2001, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1It's 3 mln.... what ever mln is suppose to represent.
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1well most commercials arent that memorable anyway, they may as well pay up to show their commercial to the absolute biggest tv audience of the year.
- mjesales, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1and to think in 1999 they were 1million for a 30 second clip.
- NecroSexy, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1That is the rate adjusted to inflation.
- BraveQuail, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1...and there is talk of a so called recession.
- Brows, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1isn't every year a new record?
- daizaru, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I'm pretty sure if they can get non football fans to watch the superbowl (mostly for the commercials) then football fans are the least of their concerns. People like to watch the finals regardless of who is playing. .
- seanpackage, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1The only way I would pay $3 million dollars for 30 seconds of anything is if that anything was 30 seconds of bareback buttlovin' with Condoleezza Rice.... or Jerry Falwell
- kraftj, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Superbowl commercials have sucked for the past few years.
- ltomson, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I'll do it for a million
- Gregsaw, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1the one with the monkey in the garage? If it's the one i'm thinking of, that's one of my all time favorites
- 3gibberish4q57, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1He probably meant $3/min. So a 30 second ad is only a dollar fifty. That's not too bad.
- ChronoMojo, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1NBC is in that bad of shape for money that they've announce Super Bowl advertising rates in May for a game that happens in February? They wonder why no one is watching the drivel that network puts out. Deal or No Deal two to three nights a week with the "Lucky Case Game" isn't making NBC any money? They have ads in between shows, they have ads DURING shows (pop-up ads for the next show) and they have "text your vote" for nearly every other show that they run, and they're still hurting for money? Maybe they should concentrate on what they put on the air instead of ways to make money. Good content brings in viewers, which in turn brings in advertising dollars.
- justice7, on 05/07/2008, -1/+130 seconds is a long ad, most are far far shorter.
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0I'll do it for 100k
- daizaru, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1At $3M just for the add time the ads themselves will probably be done with cue cards in front of a camera.
- Tollofsen, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0I was under the impression that it was allot more expensive. Heck if I was loaded. Wasting a few $ just to piss people of would easily be worth it. Just airing a nonsense clip of me taking a dump or eating breakfast.
Oh, and since when did people start to write million and billion as mln and bln? Looks retarded, just like me. - gkiltz, on 05/08/2008, -0/+0This does not answer the basic problem of the Super Bowl!
What to watch during the commercials?
Maybe it's time to keep a DVD cued up, and use the pause a lot more than I usually do! - plizard, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1they better be in 1080p
- MScrip, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1Superbowl ads were relevant when you had to sit in front of your TV and wait for them. This year, they teamed up with Myspace and they had every commercial available online. Then they were all over Youtube. And every other video website... for free. Why do companies even need a football game to make these commercials? You don't even have to watch the "Superbowl" to see the "Superbowl commercials" anymore.
- ryaske, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0thats what i thought. bad grammar
- Earendil1, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1What a ***** waste of money. We'll see it ad free here in Germany. ;-D Oh no! Its "American Football"... boring. :-/
- logan074, on 05/07/2008, -0/+0I'll do it for a scratch off and a burrito
- RedZone09, on 05/07/2008, -10/+8Ron Paul warned us about our declining dollar!!!
