Saskatchewan Roughriders are CFL's Grey Cup Champions
tsn.ca — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have come full circle in their quest for Canadian football's most coveted prize. Eighteen years after winning their last Grey Cup at Toronto's SkyDome, the Riders defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23-19 on Sunday to capture the trophy on the same field at Rogers Centre.

- jon30041, on 11/27/2007, -1/+3Yeah, woo, go team!
I think I may have found my Canadian Football team to root for. MAYBE. Probably not, though. Congratulations anyways! - unreg, on 11/27/2007, -6/+0Jesus, I thought it said Ron Paul, Ron Paul.
- jon30041, on 11/27/2007, -1/+3Yeah, woo, go team!
- jeffwalso, on 11/27/2007, -4/+23Gotta love James Johnson with 3 interceptions! Green is the Colour!!!
- tanameyer, on 11/27/2007, -1/+3Football is the game!
- GARussell, on 11/27/2007, -2/+11Congratulations to the Roughriders and the people of Saskatchewan! But I've got to give credit too to the Blue Bomber defense. They made it a game!
And James Johnson was not perfect. He dropped an interception, and he let his man score Winnipeg's first TD. - Oneam, on 11/27/2007, -2/+9Big ups to John Chick too. He made Dinwiddie's day hell.
- EpidemiK, on 11/27/2007, -61/+4Who lives in Canadia?

- HOMEsplice, on 11/27/2007, -6/+6BOO-YA go ROUGHRIDERS
- smacksaw, on 11/27/2007, -6/+9Yeah I'm an Als fan, so it's hard to root for the Bombers, but I did feel for them since they have such awesome fans. I don't think there's a city in Canada that lives and dies with a team the way that Winterpeg does.
I am happy for the Riders, especially because I dig the idea of the community owning shares in the team and it sort of reflects the old "Tommy Douglas" mentality that has arisen from the Prairies that there's something about things being communal, even though I'm not much of a fan of his - the Riders (and Packers) are how it should be. And if Ralph Wilson still has any tricks left up his sleeve he'll leave the Bills to the city when he passes.- tanameyer, on 11/27/2007, -0/+8Winnipeg fans the best in Canada?!?
You're kidding right? The Roughriders sell 4X as much merchandise as ANY team in the CFL. You can go to a Rider game in ant city in Canada and there is guaranteed to be a "Green section". Fans will travel to anywhere to support the Riders no matter what. Even when the Riders were losing for so many years, Rider Pride was always alive and well. Hell, Rider Pride is even alive in Ghana during Grey Cup:
http://uregina.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=263854&i ...- smacksaw, on 11/27/2007, -3/+2Link is dead, but my wife was a Hooters girl for a long time so I got to experience all of the fans coming in from out of town for games or transplants coming to watch the games and the Bombers fans are MUCH more passionate. I don't think merch sales are a good measure of interest, either. Nothing says "I'm from Saskatchewan and proud of it" like wearing Riders gear. If you're from The Peg you have other options to show your pride. Jets, Moose, Bombers...those are all big teams.
And speaking of Hooters, we would visit the one in the Peg every so often (my wife worked at Vancouver's old store) and the Bombers fans were insane. Hooters was across the street from Winnipeg-renamed-hotel-stadium. So I got to see the fans both home and away and the team is it. Factor in that with the loss of the Jets it's like having two kids and one dies so you love the other one twice as much to make up for the kid you can no longer love.
And as far as the Riders losing, they do and did stand by their team - no doubt about it. But you don't have much choice otherwise.
I still say the best fans in the CFL the Bombers fans, but that doesn't diminish the Riders in any way - it's just the Bombers are lucky to have that level of passion.

- polorix, on 11/27/2007, -5/+14w00t Rider Nation baby! Who was in Regina on Albert St after the game?! I know I was, our city was turned upside down! =D Go Riders!
- bmilleker, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2A couple buddies and I drove down Dewdney to Albert. It was nuts. I have never seen anything like that in Saskatchewan before. You could feel the rider pride!
- funkonomics, on 11/27/2007, -30/+8The who, are what?
- jdhammer, on 11/27/2007, -3/+5What a game that was. I thought Dinwiddie might get it done.......but yeah John Chick was fantastic. I couldn't believe how he blew through the line time and time again......

- cambob76, on 11/27/2007, -1/+29Canadian Football League. Its like the NFL, but cool.
- spitreaper, on 11/27/2007, -3/+12It would of been a better game if Kevin Glenn didn't get his arm broken. But that was a good played game by the backup. Good job Saskatchewan.
- cambob76, on 11/27/2007, -3/+8I heard the horns honking and people screaming on Albert St. way into the night. It was kind of a ***** game, but glad the Riders won. My calculations predict they will win the Grey Cup again in 2020.

- jmpeagle, on 11/27/2007, -5/+12wait...how come Canadian teams play in the NBA, MLB, and NHL but not the NFL?
- RyanBlack, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2Good question :P
- darrenjamesw, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2Different rules. Biggest difference is 3 downs vs. 4 downs in the NFL. Years ago there used to be an annual CFL vs NFL kind of pro bowl game, but the CFL always got wupped
- jmpeagle, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2that's because they didn't get to compete over the same talent....if Canadians could also draft out players from American colleges it would be more even much like in the NBA, MLB, and NHL
- Guspaz, on 11/27/2007, -1/+1I'd say that having 10x the population helps, except it doesn't (taking Hockey as the example). It's really down to interest; Canadians are far less interested (and obsessive about) football compared to Americans, so the teams bring in less money, they pay less, and the good athletes go toward more lucrative sports.
Think about what football would be like in the US if salaries were in the 5 figures instead of 7-8 figures. You'd simply attract less talent.

- chaoskin, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2cuz the CFL is playin it nice and doesn't want to start dominating the NFL like our dollar dominates their economy!!!....mwa-hahahahaha!!!
- RyanBlack, on 11/27/2007, -2/+4Awesome game, well deserved :D
- steveo1219, on 11/27/2007, -1/+10In other news: John Madden realizes that Canada has a football league.
- moosepile, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1And if they had a football league, than would mean that they played football, with teams, and that would mean that the teams could organize, into a league, and play football, in a football league.
- Turbojugend27, on 11/27/2007, -21/+2Fake Football season was on and over already?
- FarNorthMac, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1We brought football to U there bud!!!
- xiambax, on 11/27/2007, -1/+9***** YEAH! Saskatoon was nuts last night. everyone went outside and was cheering down the block. people were shooting off fireworks. the whole province was celebrating. it was awesome!

- TheMikey, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2I can't Digg you up enough for that Xiambax. Were you anywhere near 8th Street?
And how about Mackowsky? Saskatoon boy born and raised.
The courses of Rider Pride were amazing.- bejayel, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2i was driving down 8th. took like an hour to get to the other end. Absolutely packed.
- FarNorthMac, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1I was on 8th and got pulled over by a ghost minivan the Police were using and got all my fireworks taken...

- funkonomics, on 11/27/2007, -15/+2Silly, Canadia is the 51st state.
America Jr. that is- moosepile, on 11/27/2007, -2/+3Actually, we choose Canuckistan.
- funkonomics, on 11/27/2007, -15/+2Silly, Canadia is the 51st state.
- unreg, on 11/27/2007, -10/+1There's a whopping total of 8 teams in the league, divided into two divisons.
Chances are you're gonna win sooner or later.- moosepile, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1True, but percent of population wise, we have 80 nfl teams.
In that case, go go Dildo Roughriders.
(Dildo NFLD. Look it up).
- moosepile, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1True, but percent of population wise, we have 80 nfl teams.

- NaziHatinChimp, on 11/27/2007, -8/+3Huh?
- zjel, on 11/27/2007, -9/+7You can have your precious Grey Cup, Saskatchewan...but make no mistake, you're still only the second best CFL team named "Roughriders".
Sincerely,
Ottawa Roughriders- mapez, on 11/27/2007, -0/+6You don't even know how to spell your teams name. It was Ottawa Rough Riders. Way to be sports fan :D
- xXMetalJesusXx, on 11/27/2007, -1/+1WOOT FOR OTTAWA ROUGH RIDERS!!! Too bad they went under, I was too young to go to the games as a kid, now that I'm in Carleton University, it would have been nice to see some games :(
- profOblivion, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Hear hear, fellow Raven. Only football in the city now is that *other* university up the canal. Oh well, at least we've got our FIVE-TIME CHAMPION basketball team!
- FarNorthMac, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3Where are those Renegades I've heard so much about???
- LeafsIn07, on 11/27/2007, -2/+1Damn, my microecon prof is a Riders fan, I've been wearing Stamps gear all semester too. I'm not gonna hear the end of this.
- cnot3, on 11/27/2007, -7/+5Didn't Saddam Hussein try to take over Canada during a Roughriders v. Roughriders game, only to be stopped by flatulence?
- Jerryskid02, on 11/27/2007, -15/+2CFL?....Crazy French Lady? ...anyone?? anyone?? ....
- spitreaper, on 11/27/2007, -0/+5no not at all..
- FarNorthMac, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1umm yeah...no!
- tanameyer, on 11/27/2007, -1/+4Rider Pride is alive everywhere! I think that everyone in my Facebook list has some Roughrider related profile pictures! I wish I could post them here. Rider Pride is alive in Italy, Ghana, Mexico, and everywhere else there are Rider fans. Probably the best pic is from my friend doing relief work in Ghana. She went to the Internet cafe with a watermelon on her head to watch the game! (Rider fans will know what I'm talking about).
- Internazionale, on 11/27/2007, -16/+0Of course Riders are gonna have the most fans, they can't afford an NHL team or anything different in ***** sask
- FarNorthMac, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2*****? Well good sir, I must ask myself what area of this earth produces ignorant people such as yourself. Some of the greatest sports figures in history have come from Saskatchewan. Along with our sports, our rolling hills and deep valleys produce some of the most amazing wildlife in North America.
- skeetshot, on 11/27/2007, -1/+5I'm from Sask, yesterday was like Christmas, my birthday and St. Patty's all wrapped into one insanely green day. ***** awesome.
- lordmike, on 11/27/2007, -1/+26For all the CFL bashers... maybe you should realize that Canada brought football to the USA, not the other way around... Harvard wanted to play a rugby type of football, but every other college in the states wanted to play soccer, so McGill University came down and showed the Crimson what real football was... Harvard loved it... taught everyone else in what is now known as the Ivy League... and the rest is history... Canadian football still plays on the oversized field of the original game, and still incorporates the 3 downs to the line to gain that was the American rule until 1912.... Canadian football is the historical essence of football in North America.

- mal1964, on 11/27/2007, -0/+4Saskatchewan and football is not first thought, Saskatchewan and huge walleye and northern pike (jack) if I had a choice to visit one last place before I die, no question its on a lake in Saskatchewan
- emc86, on 11/27/2007, -1/+8Don't want to start an NFL vs. CFL thing because I do love the NFL. But there is something so much more pure about the CFL. Been around for nearly 100 years now.
- iamsamsamiam, on 11/27/2007, -11/+2I'm Canadian and i don't even give half a rat's ass about the CFL. it's not that i don't like football, it's just that i have dish network and NFL games are better..
- MacDevyn, on 11/27/2007, -6/+1Canada has a Football league?
lol jk im a canuck too... - MacintoshSauce, on 11/27/2007, -1/+12The question is: Why can't EA Sports make a Canadian Football League game? That would be so bloody cool IMO.
- lordmike, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3It's the same reason why they won't make NCAA football for the PC or the Wii... 'cos they are idiots!
- Guspaz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2Because the market is tiny. We have 10% the population, and on top of that, Canadians aren't as in to football as Americans, so your actual sales would be less than 10%.
This is the same reason why CFL players are paid working salaries, and NFL players are paid millions.
- ywgflyer, on 11/27/2007, -2/+1Don't worry, Rider fans....we'll get our revenge ;)
- mal1964, on 11/27/2007, -1/+1Sean Salisbury won a grey cup( Winnipeg) , Bud Grant lost three Superbowl's as the coach of the Minnesota Viking, but won four grey cups coaching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
- saskboy, on 11/27/2007, -1/+5Go Riders!
/=S=/ - thebillgonadz, on 11/27/2007, -1/+3I'm still bitter that the Bombers knocked out the Argos and ruined their chance at playing for the Cup in Toronto, therefore I'm happy the Roughriders won. Plus my girlfriend used to live in Saskatoon, although she couldn't care less.
Congrats to the Roughriders and the people of Saskatchewan. - gkiltz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0Congrats To Em!
- TheStuffz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0I was stuck at work. Only radio channel was sun 102.3 crap and Hollywood confidential was on... so as workers left or arrived I got the updates on it. I was really surprised at how many fans there was at work. course not everyone is from sask so there was some bomber fans to. they got a hard time and all but it was all in the name of fun
- FarNorthMac, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1I LOVE MY RIDERS!!!!!!!!! SASK PRIDE EVERYBODY!!!!!!
