- ninjaknowell, on 12/29/2008, -0/+35Go Niners! Way to end the season!
- jboitnott, on 12/29/2008, -0/+17This one is making a lot of Bay Area fans very happy and optimistic about the team in the future.
- vitaminz1990, on 12/30/2008, -0/+13Singletary is the man!
- covaro, on 12/30/2008, -0/+10I used to fix his computers for his seven (yes, seven) kids for him when they lived here in Baltimore. Great family, always extremely kind to the lowly computer guy. Wife was always very pleasant and would always refer me to some of the other families on the team as well. At last count I think I fixed machines for six Raven players/coaches/GMs.
- ModeSeven, on 12/30/2008, -3/+12Singletary? San Francisco? Silicon Valley? Singularity? Anyone see where I'm going with this? No? ***** it then.
- still0lil0wagon, on 12/30/2008, -0/+9I want WINNERS!
- kilroyy, on 12/30/2008, -3/+12He kicked some ass this season. And he got his ass kicked some this season. But, he finished strong. The most points scored against the Redskins *all season* in a game was 27, and that was achieved by the 49ers.
Still, we need a ***** quarterback. We've got 2 great backups. Two backups do not equal one starter. - radsdigger, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8Why, he's a regular Bill Walsh!
- pcTw3aker, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8I'm not a niners fan, but I was impressed with how well, they ended the season under Singletary.
- TexasShiv, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8Great, GREAT move by the 49ers. He is a disciplined coach that knows what he's doing
- Boing, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8Best thing for the 49ers right now. Maybe next year since we are in the worst division in the NFL we can win a couple more and take the division.
- Nando76, on 12/30/2008, -0/+7yeah i guess 5-3 as a starter isnt' good enough for you?
- Azerael, on 12/30/2008, -1/+8On August 29, 1997, Football became self-aware.
Which is more than we can say for its fans. - Noooooooooooooo, on 12/30/2008, -0/+7I want to believe, I really do.
- giogalindo, on 12/30/2008, -0/+6no, you suck.
- whatthefu, on 12/30/2008, -1/+6Not for Skins fans :(
- anillop, on 12/30/2008, -2/+7Singletary is a badass and is just the man to whip a spoiled organization into shape.
- cryptomystic, on 12/30/2008, -2/+7I don't mind NFL news too much but one of the top stories yesterday was the Canadian Junior Hockey team beating the Kazakstan Junior team in a completely meaningless game.
Time for a new algorithm Digg. - exnoctem, on 12/30/2008, -0/+5i dont know about you, but an almost 90 passer rating in a brand new system on a team that had you as the 3rd stringer coming into this season in which you only started 8 games is pretty fricken good to me and in my opinion earns you respect.
- MisterChirish, on 12/30/2008, -1/+5Please, please, please lets see the Niners get back to their winning ways... These last several years have gotten a little hurtful...
Good for Singletary, though. I think it's a good thing for the team and hopefully a positive sign for the future. - fuzed, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4Actually, I agree with you too. I like Martz's style of play, even it is at odds with Singletary. I say keep him around unless they can come up with a better solution.
- Richandler, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4Except Bill let the players manage and take care of themselves. Singletary had to get these guys to want something.
- kekemortson, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4I'm not a Niners fan, but I think they made a good move. Singletary deserves the chance and he made the Niners more competetive after he took over.
- GregFD3S, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4Singletary is the type of head coach all NFL teams need. It seems like discipline is a rare thing in NFL teams these days. Every player celebrates for 30 seconds after every minuscule play they make, it's ridiculous.
- GregFD3S, on 12/30/2008, -0/+4Except for the last few games. The latest one being yesterday.
Buried. - iMLoStx, on 12/30/2008, -1/+4Now I just hope for a good offseason, some good pickups, and start the year off right next year.
- zenerdiode, on 12/30/2008, -1/+4I may be in the minority who hopes they'll keep Mike Martz as well. Look at SF's offensive numbers compared to last year. More importantly, look at what they were able to do with Hill, an ancient Isaac Bruce, a gimpy Gore, no-hands Vernon Davis and...well...that's it. Martz deserves at least some of the credit for the recent turnaround.
- giogalindo, on 12/30/2008, -2/+5if you're a guy, and you don't watch sports, something is wrong with you.
- AceAMasta, on 12/30/2008, -0/+3His team of winners will continue to hit people in the mouth next season.
- lastmaster, on 12/30/2008, -0/+3*****' 49ers!!!!
/dana carvey - exnoctem, on 12/30/2008, -0/+3Im not the biggest fan of martz... but he did pretty much turn the offense around. Youve got to give him respect for that, especially after that offensive travesty that we saw in 2007.
In a perfect world though the niners would get norv turner back as the O. coordinator. Unfortunatly for san fran it looks like the chargers are gonna keep him. - GregFD3S, on 12/30/2008, -0/+3http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80db2c60
- GregFD3S, on 12/30/2008, -0/+3I second that.
- still0lil0wagon, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2I agree. Mike and Mike are greater than the sum of their parts, perhaps? I am down for Martz coming back. My only worry is that Martz has a ring as an o.c. already. Someone needs to make a parody/remake/mashup starring Singletary and Martz.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZtiJN6yiik - Remelox, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2I thought it said the 49ers were hiring a singularity, which would pretty much destroy any offense or defense...or coaching staff...fans..city...
- mattmcegg, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2Don't think I'd ever want to hanging out with him, but he's a good man.
- Hinducow28, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2For a second I thought this article was about how the San Francisco 49ers somehow reaching the point of singularity with technology.
- OasisR123, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1UPDATE: Martz is gone, hopefully this will be for the good of the team.
- GregFD3S, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1I like Martz too, but I think we're still being too conservative when it comes to throwing the ball.
- SetOverSet, on 12/30/2008, -1/+2Are you serious? I suppose you'd prefer 15 articles about how Obama is "change" and "hope" while he's voting the exact same way as McCain did on the 700 billion bailout. Or maybe you'd like to see more stories on friggin polar bears chasing people around trucks.
- swik, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1He was ridiculed in the media for his um, unorthodox methods, but I thought all along that was the kind of thing a team in their position needed. Treat them like children when they behave like children.
- belledeshanghai, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1"I'm Samurai Mike. I stop 'em cold. Part of the defense, big and bold."
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/69344/super_bowl_shu ...
Skip to 1:13 for Samurai Mike! - SetOverSet, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1Yeah, like you pee sitting down.
- playuhh, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1In general... 2009 is gonna be a great year. I can feel it.
- rrouse, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1He has walked the talk. As a player he was respected by all those that played against him.
- gijoe86, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1Look at what the dolphins did.
- beachsouthpaw, on 12/30/2008, -2/+2Anyone who drops his pants to motivate his team and calls them an embarassment publicly deserves a shot. Good luck sir. And remember, the 49ers are in by far the easiest division in football. Their biggest competitor are the Cardinals.
The ***** Cardinals.
It wouldn't surprise me if they turned it around next year, they just need to stay far far away from Alex Smith. - kilroyy, on 12/30/2008, -0/+0@exnoctem and nando76:
He was only 3rd string because Martz wanted O'sullivan. And they paid Hill 6 million during the offseason. So he was already shown as much respect as he deserved. He's done alright as a 49er, and if we had a stronger overall offense I would be satisfied with his performance. However, we're clearly still rebuilding and the best place to start is with a man that can lead this team.
One caveat: Hill *has* shown his character by throwing 3 interceptions, then coming back after the half to lead the team to victory 2 weeks ago. If that truly represents who he is, I'll jump on his bandwagon. - Kannebas, on 12/31/2008, -0/+0Yes... There is a change a-happenin', though it's just not... obvious.
- Noooooooooooooo, on 12/30/2008, -1/+1And if your a guy and you don't watch porn something is SERIOUSLY wrong with you.
