- FlyingPhotog, on 12/14/2008, -2/+17Bradford owes a big thanks to TxTech's QB for that last-second TD vs Texas.
- elizabethb221, on 12/14/2008, -2/+15Guess this means that we're getting another statue added on Jenkins st.
Guess this comment only makes sense to people in Norman. - danconia, on 12/14/2008, -11/+24Good for him. Hopefully this will make the NC a bit more dramatic. I'm not rooting for either team really but Florida is going to stomp on OU in my opinion.
- aralls, on 12/14/2008, -1/+11Who was the jackass shouting "boomer" the whole time?
- elizabethb221, on 12/14/2008, -1/+10I'm so proud of you for coming out to us :)
Digg loves you no matter what. - coryjg, on 12/14/2008, -4/+13Even though I am a Mizzou fan, I admit that Bradford led OU to one hell of a season and deserved this. I also believe OU has a great chance at the championship this year. This is one of the few seasons I've agreed with who should be in the Championship game.
- dzneill, on 12/14/2008, -7/+15I'm an Oklahoma State fan, but congrats to OU. Hope they win the national championship.
- donramses, on 12/14/2008, -3/+10$10 says Tebow cried.
- SwiftKick34, on 12/14/2008, -1/+8Go home Eurotrash, America is playing golf on the moon.
- arkboysooner, on 12/14/2008, -2/+8Congrats to Slingin' Sammy. All three candidates deserves it, but I'm glad you are taking home the hardware!
- ericd, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6It should be noted that Tebow had the most voters to choose him as their number one pick. Bradford won because he had enough second place votes from those who chose Tebow and McCoy to overcome that deficit.
The Heisman is awarded for total points, not most first place votes. - Boing, on 12/14/2008, -4/+10Still a shame that Harrell wasn't invited.
- arkboysooner, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Makes sense to me and I'm not in Norman. I'm about 20 min north however, :)
- godofallcows, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5But Sooners beat Tech, Tech beat Texas, blah bla blah.
Unfortunately we can't have rematches... - jls33fsls, on 12/14/2008, -8/+13Wow this is so crazy. I played football with Sam in high school, still hasn't really sunk in that he is now the Heisman winner.
- JakeBlues, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5As a Sooner fan and someone who understands that Billy Sims is a legend, I would like to apologize for his idiotic behavior. What an embarassment.
He did the same ***** when Jason White won it, but it was ten times worse last night. - ai6891, on 12/14/2008, -1/+6That last second touchdown is the only reason OU is going to the championship instead of Texas and leading your team to the championship is a big deciding factor for who will get the Heisman (i.e. FlyingPhotog is exactly right)
- arkboysooner, on 12/14/2008, -0/+51978 Heisman Trophy winner Billy Simms.
- cleovii, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5man I'm a Gator and even I thought that was obnoxious
- SoonerRoadie, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5OU ran up the score? Take the largest scores
Nebraska: First half: 49 3Q: 13 4Q: 0
A&M: First Half: 38 3Q: 28 4Q:0
Tech: First Half: 42 3Q: 16 4Q: 7
Total 4Q points: 90 (Including 24 against OSU because after all we only won by 20)
Total points 702
Yeah, less than 12% of the points being scored in the 4th quarter, most of the time not scoring in the 4th quarter at all, is really running up the score. Not to mention that the two instances where more than 10 points was scored in the 4th quarter were against two ranked teams. It's not like they were beating up on Big East winner Cincy in the 4th quarter. - jls33fsls, on 12/14/2008, -5/+9I could not disagree with you more. And shame on you Twisted, how ca you call yourself an OU fan if you think we are going to get stomped? I guess it is fair to say that I am more than slightly biased since I have been going to OU games since I was 4 and know Sam Bradford personally (played football with him in high school), but come on, you can't go wrong with the most prolific offense in NCAA history.
- OUSooner, on 12/14/2008, -2/+6Yay Sam!
Great guy. One who we can be proud of on and off the field.
The same can be said of the other two candidates. Great guys - all of them. - pigsbladder, on 12/14/2008, -9/+13I'm waiting for the Texas fans to post saying they were robbed yet again...
- Sayjack, on 12/14/2008, -1/+5I love the Gators, but if you look empirically at the statistics; Bradford wins.
NAME CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
Bradford 302 442 4464 68.3 10.10 77 48 6 9 186.29
McCoy 291 375 3445 77.6 9.19 91 32 7 20 179.20
Tebow 174 268 2515 64.9 9.38 70 28 2 15 176.74
Having said that, I think Tebow is one of the best things to happen to college football both on and off the field. - Twisted871, on 12/14/2008, -0/+4Our offense is amazing this year, definitely. What I'm worried about is our defense.
- xjadams, on 12/14/2008, -1/+5Don't you have a soccer game somewhere, where fans need to stampede each other to death?
Ta. - blueRAP, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4"The most prolific offense in NCAA history."
Exactly.
A lot of SEC fans will say that that the Big 12 doesn't play any defense, but how many of them know that the Sooners have the largest offensive line in the NCAA?
If Bradford has enough time in the pocket throughout the game, there's no way Florida outscores OU. - Twoje, on 12/14/2008, -1/+4But OU absolutely dominated the only team to which UT lost. It's a vicious triangle, but OU was the only team to obliterate one of the other two.
- Brasky, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Tebow will not be a quarterback. Terribly long release and too prone to run. Nobody lasts long in the pros running the ball as a QB. Bradford has the skills, but has been spoiled with a great O-line at OU. He has, for the most part, never had to scramble to keep plays alive. He has all day to throw the ball. McCoy is probably the most complete in terms of skills and experience.
- Rammstein2133, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Regardless of how big of a margin it was, with how good of a season Harrel had there was no reason to not invite him. Having one more filled seat at the ceremony would not have been that big of a deal, and Harrel did enough this year to enjoy how well treated the other candidates were over the weekend.
- salmo, on 12/14/2008, -2/+5Sam's a great QB, don't get me wrong, but he won for his stats. I'd give him an MVP, but Tebow is a much better all-round football player. He was just surrounded by other great athletes, on a team with an actual running game. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Tebow is one of the best all-round college football players in the history of the game. Then again, I don't think Tebow even had his eye on the Heisman, he's only cared about one thing since the end of last season, and that will be decided on the field Jan 8.
- Midtowner, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3The "SEC has great defenses" argument sort of falls flat when you look at the following:
1) SEC offenses are *****. Auburn-Miss. St. was 3-2 -- and it was because of inept offense, not great defense (because those teams have sure been scored on). When offenses are *****, average defenses will have better stats.
2) Looking at SEC out of conference games, some of the better SEC defenses let non SEC foes put up lots of points on them. Exhibit A -- Tennessee let an abysmal UCLA offense outscore them. Exhibit B -- Georgia, with all of their ridiculous talent let Georgia Tech score 45 on them. Exhibit C -- the only SEC/Big XII head to head this year featured Texas dropping 52 points on the inept piggies.
On the flip side of this, we have the Big XII with its excellent offenses. They've been scoring on everyone, in conference and OOC alike. Big XII defenses aren't bad. They just have to face much more talented offensive attacks, which hurts their stats. - dafragsta, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3At least his name isn't Tim Thibault
- ell0bo, on 12/14/2008, -2/+4Tebow also didn't get to pass against Big 12 defenses. That's a major disadvantage right there. Should be an entertaining bowl season.
- seraph582, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Of Florida's 12 opponents, nine had defenses ranked among the top 37 in the country; Bradford faced only three among the top 37, and McCoy didn't play against a single defense in the top 60 all season.
- TigerStar337, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2I think the TV people like to say the word "Tebow". They seem to use it anytime they can. Oh, well.
- ethanator1088, on 12/14/2008, -6/+8I think he had a great year, but there were 3 QB's in the same conference that had great numbers. That sounds like a conference with bad defenses. I would have gone with Tebow. Congrats to Bradford, but he would not have been my choice.
- Midtowner, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2If Sam comes back next year, it'll be a little surreal to have a statue of a current player.
- elipabst, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3LOL, which is why the US leads all other nations in science.
- SoonerRoadie, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it was kind of embarrassing. Maybe do it after the speech, but not while he's trying to walk up there. Nevertheless, Billy Sims is the man.
- markus7353, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2I agree....but look at what Tebow had to work with. Weapons all over the field, not to mention one of the best lines I've ever seen. Colt McCoy deserved it because he had the least...and he accounted for 70% of his teams offense, compared to 65% of bradford and 55% of tebow. They're all class acts and great people, I'm happy for all of them.
- EerFoolWVU, on 12/14/2008, -2/+4The interesting part in this is that Tebow had more 1st place votes than any of the others. However, the bitter Midwest voters who voted Bradford didn't even include Tebow in their top 3.
Yet another ***** politically won award.
And no, I'm not a UF fan. I'm a WVU alum, hence the name...big ups to Pat White, shame the worst college football coach in the nation ruined his season. Still placed 7th in the voting though. - dylanvande21ste, on 04/23/2009, -0/+2Boomer...
- ebrgt62, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2'Twas the night before the BCS and all through the land,
not a Gator was stirring, not even the band.
Their Jockeys were hung by the locker with care,
in hopes that the Sooners soon would be there.
Tebow was nestled all snug in his bed,
while visions of glory danced in his head.
And Meyer in his kerchief full of Florida pride,
and Bob and the Sooners ready to ride.
When down in Miami there arose such a clatter,
Harvin sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
He realized the Option was gone in a flash,
and Tebow's dreams of running had just been dashed.
The Gator running backs trembled as they watched the show,
A Crimson and Cream luster set the horizon aglow.
When what to their wondering eyes should they find,
but a miniature Schooner, seven National Titles behind.
With a wizened old driver, skilled in leading his troops,
they knew in a moment it must be Bob Stoops.
More rapid than Texas his players they came,
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name.
"On Bradford , on Gresham, now Madu and Murray!
On Chris Brown! On Iglesias! On Stevens and Curry!
To the top of the BCS! To the top of it all!
Now dash their hopes! Dash their dreams! Dash away all!"
And then in a twinkling, the Gators fought back a scream,
and Tim Tebow saw the last of his Heisman trophy dream.
The defense drew in their breath and looked all around,
and realized that their "savior Meyer" was nowhere to be found.
Bob's eyes how they twinkled, his coaches how merry!
As they carried on the legacy left them by Bud and Barry.
Tim's sad little face and a fear in his belly,
he shook on the field as his knees turned to jelly.
He spoke not a word, and the ball they couldn't carry,
Stoops filled up the scoreboard and then turned to Barry.
And laying his hand on the shoulder of his friend,
he gave Switzer a nod and said, "Like Missouri again."
Bob sprang to the Schooner, to his team gave a shout,
to the BCS they flew and left Florida down and out.
And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
"Boomer Sooner to All and to All a Good Night!" - Rammstein2133, on 12/14/2008, -1/+3Just because you Pokes never get the opportunity to hoist your flags on your pickups doesn't mean you have to be mean about it. I hope that OK State dominates in their bowl. Hell, I'll even root for Texas in their bowl. I just want to see the Big XII do well.
- bondfreak05, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2I shook his hand once. He was selling barbecue sauce at Reasor's in Tulsa
- kuzotz, on 12/14/2008, -0/+2You know. Europeans talk ***** then they go and kill each other at their soccer games.
lol just realized someone beat me to the punchline. Oh well. - ell0bo, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1I believe the he referred to is not Tebow, but Bradford. Florida doesn't have a classic running game, Oklahoma does. Look at the quality of defenses played against though, and Tebow gets and edge. I'm sure the bowl season will prove me right, but then again, could be wrong.
