- pcrazy, on 10/13/2008, -1/+19Al Davis needs to retire from day to day operations. I am a lifelong Raider fan but I can't believe the team will ever win with his meddling outdated philosophies.
- boat, on 10/13/2008, -2/+19not to be morbid but his death will only help the raiders they need to get rid of him somehow
- ngmcs8203, on 10/13/2008, -0/+14Best line came from Sapp: "Al Davis knows football — it's just '60s and '70s football," Sapp said. "That's what it is. He's thinking that Cliff Branch is outside and [Jim] Plunkett is dropping back and you can throw it 80 yards down the field — deep ball, deep ball, deep ball."
- philrenaud, on 10/13/2008, -1/+14Oh cry yourselves a god damned river.
Sincerely,
-The Detroit Lions - ninjarabbits, on 10/13/2008, -1/+10Should never have let Gruden go. Though if I remember correctly, it worked out pretty well for TB ; )
- endustry, on 10/13/2008, -0/+8They should just replace the players with their fans. A few brass-knuckle straight arms would clear most defensive lines in a heartbeat and whoever doesn't get out of the way probably deserves to get stabbed anyway. Remember, these are the people who burned cars after the Raiders WON the AFC title a few years ago.
- eavesdrop, on 10/13/2008, -0/+6I've been a Raider fan since Bo Jackson caught my attention as a kid. Davis is a cancer. His old style of football just doesn't work anymore and he always meddles with the coach's decisions. I've always hated Davis for losing Chuckie and the rest of the Raider Nation will be hurting until he finally hands off the reigns or dies. There is no doubt Davis is part of building the Raider Nation, but he needs to retire soon.
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -1/+7Dead on. Al Davis is killing the Raiders franchise.
- chungmaster, on 10/13/2008, -0/+5Lane Kiffin wasn't bad either. He just never gave Kiffin authority so he couldn't really do much.
- Jimmerz, on 10/13/2008, -1/+5I grew up in Oakland and as a life long Raider fan I do know all those things. Especially his role as the AFL's attack dog, which helped force the merger of the two competing leagues. Especially his philosophy of stretching the field with aggressive 'long ball' plays, which changed the game and made it more exciting.
In fact, I used to work at a restaurant in the Montclair district of the Oakland hills and waited on a lot of people in the Raiders organization, including Tom Flores and Mark Davis.
Doesn't change the fact that time has passed him by, that he has become a detriment to the team, and that he needs to let someone else take over. It's been his life, so I understand it would be hard, but it's long overdue. - dodgeboy99, on 10/13/2008, -5/+9Davis is a moron and alway's has been!
- ranx, on 10/13/2008, -1/+4I feel your pain. I'm also a lifelong Raider fan. People I work with think I'm insane, and they're probably right. Agree with your post.
Maybe they'll get it together again one of these years. Hey ! Idea ! After Tom Brady gets healthy NE should trade him and Moss back over to Oakland ! Yeah, It'll happen. OK, I'm putting the crack pipe down. - xpose, on 10/13/2008, -2/+4That's just crazy ol grandpa! It just so happens he's ruining a multi-million dollar business.
- aralls, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3Re-hire Art Shell!
- rondeth, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2It's just that it's been so long since they've enjoyed _consistent_ success. Besides the recent 'glory years' of 99-02--which ended in quite a thump in the SB against Tampa--and a blip in 90-91, they've just not been "the" Raiders. I've been a fan since I was about 10 years old, so I'm not a recent convert.
We love Al because he essentially IS the Raiders. We hate him because, well...he is the boss, he's the man at the top, and the results have been erratic at best of late. I just get the sense that the whole organization over there is operating in the past. The teams always have talent--this years' 1-4 team has a lot of young talent--but seldom do they seem to put the organization around that talent to let it shine on the field. Gruden succeeded in spite of Davis and the organizational structure, not because of it.
Just my opinion, go Raiders! - gcacho, on 10/13/2008, -1/+3Al Davis is erratic
- SkinnerBox, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2I'm a Raiders fan, and I'll jump for joy the day he dies peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.
- IamJustinM, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2That's impossible to do when you can't even fart near the quarterback now days.
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2I think he just needs a chemical peel. He'd be much happier and more reasonable if his skin wasn't all jacked up...
- morgino, on 10/13/2008, -0/+2Speaking as a Charger fan whenever the Raiders came to town we knew that fights were gonna happen. Raider fans are the dopiest most violent fans out there, a bunch of mexican gangbangers who take their ***** team way too seriously. In 2005 a Charger fan got knifed in the stands and it was caught on tape. Qualcomm has special rules just for Raiders games. Nothing makes me happier than beating the Raiders....oh except for whooping the Cheatriots ass!
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -1/+2The Raiders won't have a full season winning record until he is no longer the owner.
- IgorUnchained, on 10/13/2008, -5/+6I liked Al Davis better when he hosted Tales From the Crypt.....
Go Chargers! - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -2/+3This is what Raider fans do to Changer fans:

;-) - gkiltz, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1Time for Al Davis to step up and admit, "it's been great, but it's over, I can no longer keep up with the changes in the game and the league!" And retire! He's too egotistical to do it, and the people still left around him are his fanatics, and sycophants who can't tell him, and would not be able to work anywhere else anyway! They'd have to retire as well!
He's "Managing General Partner" So, the other owners could well do what Tex Schramm did with the Dallas Cowboys and sell it out from under him. Otherwise, the team is on permanent death watch, until the grim reaper decides the Raiders need a new owner!
Sad
And Maddening! - SoulDrift404, on 10/13/2008, -2/+3Losing 34-3? Yesterday, the Raiders ran into a heavy Brees.
- whorelock, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1The Raiders need to ditch Davis and move back to Los Angeles! For that matter, move the Rams back to LA as well.
- partrow, on 10/13/2008, -1/+1Go, fight, win, you football players. Dress up and fight the other company for your company. Entertainment junkies rejoice!
- MoralThreat, on 10/13/2008, -1/+1Commitment to mediocrity.
- IamJustinM, on 10/13/2008, -3/+2From the article. "Under Davis, the Raiders have been one of the most successful N.F.L. franchises ever."
Yet people still wish his death. :/ - ranx, on 10/13/2008, -1/+0McFail on my part. I meant for my previous post to be a reply to pcrazy. See what crack does ? Stay away from it. Don't be like me. Before you know it, you'll do something REALLY dumb. Like turning into a Raider fan. Losing is like a disease...
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -2/+1Man you suck at trolling...You must have been cast out from 4chan....
0/10 - doomchronage, on 10/13/2008, -2/+1Breesus has risen again
- Thumper13, on 10/13/2008, -2/+1Then LONG LIVE Al Davis!!
Charger fan. - KickYoda, on 10/13/2008, -3/+2For some reason I thought this was titled Nader Nation Joins the Meltdown and thought to my self, "...aww *****."
- ranx, on 10/13/2008, -2/+0Oh yeah, I almost forgot. What about that 76 yd. field goal attempt in the San Diego game last week ? I almost busted a gut laughing.
Bye Kiffin... Hello... Lofton ? - MrJerk, on 10/13/2008, -5/+1Couldn't happen to a bunch of nicer convicts, gangmember, fans! Maybe "darth raider" should put his 40 of O.E down and shank Davis!
Oh, before you digg down, when was the last time your lily keyster went to the "yard"... thats what I thought...sheesh
Mr. Jerk - Winkythecat, on 10/13/2008, -11/+3I think I would follow them more if they were called the "pirate hookers".
yes, I am already preparing to get buried. - vango, on 10/13/2008, -11/+1last! i mean first! i mean RAIDAH NAYSHUN!
- IamJustinM, on 10/13/2008, -11/+1 You say that because that's all you hear on talk radio. Fact is, you don't know ***** about Al Davis, his success' and his hand in creating the NFL as you know it. Son.
