- philliesphan026, on 12/13/2008, -0/+9My first thought when I saw the title was Tyrone Prothro's career-ending injury, but I missed 'NFL' in the title. Anyway, here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbvx5DYS6tE - b0wl0fud0n, on 12/13/2008, -1/+9Although not football (soccer) - David Busst's injury is considered one of the worst in sports history.

The video doesn't show the injury very well because the BBC refused to show replays of the injury and fans were left to wonder why goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel fled the scene with his hands over his eyes.
Background:
Two minutes into the match, Busst collided with United players Denis Irwin and Brian McClair, resulting in extensive compound fractures to both the tibia and fibula of his right leg. The match had to be delayed for 12 minutes while the blood was cleaned off the pitch. It is reputed that Manchester United's goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel vomited on the pitch upon seeing the injury and had to have counselling afterwards, along with a number of other players. The injury is cited as one of the worst in the history of sport.Busst's injuries were so bad that he at one point ran the risk of having his leg amputated.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuVIh_vpPDo - thegamingguy, on 12/12/2008, -0/+7I remember watching this years ago and hte recent MMA leg injury made me think of it. It is WAY more vivid to me now, I guess when I was younger it was bad enough to carry with me for years, but didn't shake me then like it does now.
- yacks, on 12/13/2008, -0/+6as they repeat showing it 4 times....
- LavaWarrior, on 12/13/2008, -1/+7Some things just aren't meant to bend like that...
- aceakm, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4Look on the brightside, atleast he didn't have to keep playing for the Raiders.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4This is bad, but for some reason Ed Mccafreys make me squirm even more.
Warning, its bad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkZKGhDfFPQ
The ***** held onto the ball too. I was watching that game, and that play was a critical 1st down if I remember correctly. It was a great game, but a horrible injury. However it got very little press, because about 10 hours later the World Trade Center buildings fell. - Vulphaestion, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4Reminds me of that weight-lifting injury suffered in the 2008 Bejing Olympics.
Something I never EVER want to experience. - JDFrancis, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4I'll never forget this injury. For the last 14 years, I've always looked away when injuries happen because this one made was so gruesome. I think it's worse than the Theismann injury because that was just a clean break, nothing too complicated. The only worse knee injury I've seen is when I dislocated my own knee with my leg hanging at a weird 90 degree angle from normal and I had to put it back in myself. Call me a wimp, but I always turn away when there's an injury replay.
- kolop1, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4Come on walk it off.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+4Its impressive that he survived that.

- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2***** brutal. But at least it wasn't compound (that could kill you or end you career.)
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2I can't even watch that *****. I still twitch from the Theisman SNAP. They played it over and over and over from every ***** camera angle. It was horrifying to watch and I couldn't tear my gaze away from the screen even though each time I saw it I cringed. It has been permanently seared into my memory and when any association reminds me of it, I grab my leg and suffer.
I ***** refuse to watch this! - cmaulsby, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2Wow... that is the worst thing I have seen in years on the internet. I literality held my hand in front of the screen for the second replay. WOW!
- nizzy1115, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2I think my jaw just hit the floor.
- jsffive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1That one made my legs weak.
- rpieszak, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1From wikipedia... "In the early part of the fourth quarter during the 2003 Fiesta Bowl National Championship Game, McGahee suffered an injury after catching a screen pass from Dorsey. He was immediately hit by Buckeye safety Will Allen, causing an ACL tear in his left knee. Prior to getting hurt, he had rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown, as Miami would lose the game in double-overtime, 31–24. This injury required several surgeries and extensive rehabilitation before he would be able to play again. At the season's end, McGahee announced he would not collect on a $2.5 million insurance policy he had taken out before the Championship game, and therefore would enter the 2003 NFL Draft."
- Bologner, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1You might say he broke his leg.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1thanks for the info that was crazy, I never even knew that happened to McGahee until you posted that.

What a save by Schmeichel though. - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+0That actually continues to haunt me and terrify me. Of all the things to happen to a person, this horrifies me the most.
- Bologner, on 12/13/2008, -1/+1Didn't need to.
