- elliotys, on 11/09/2009, -5/+19Ahh. . . The sweet smell of desperation. I'm sure this has nothing to do with their loss to Stanford on saturday : D
- parkskier, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10You forgot the part where Spikes plays for Florida.
- MichaelCorleone, on 11/09/2009, -4/+14Cause this has nothing to do with winning the Pac-10 and everything to do with him learning his lesson.
/s - astall35, on 11/09/2009, -1/+11I actually don't mind this that much. He was suspended for a significant portion of the season and Oregon is pretty much out of the national title picture. That being said, the NCAA allowing the PAC 10 to reinstate this thug while Dez Bryant is forced to sit the rest of the year is unfair. He lied, this guy assaulted someone, they should look at the leniency shown here and make a similar adjustment for that young man as well.
- Kbriggs, on 11/09/2009, -1/+8He's been out for more than 50% of the season. Why ruin the kids life? See if he has learned his lesson, see if he is rehabilitated. I think what he did was crazy also, but it seems we hold superstars to a higher standard.
- hughesj919, on 11/09/2009, -2/+9So its ok to sucker punch another player, attempt to fight fans, and then be dragged off the field by security, but if you lie to an NCAA rep over a non-issue then you're out for the season? Ridiculous.
- dillonflynn, on 11/09/2009, -1/+6All I'm saying is, if this was the NHL we'd've never heard about it.
- sigmaman2, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5And to think, if he hadn't thrown the punch, Byron Hout would have been the bad guy, and Boise's program would have had the embarrassment.
- cli006, on 11/09/2009, -4/+8Blount should be reinstated. Oregon needs him but I say let him play if Brandon Spikes is allowed to eye gouge. Seriously, I don't see how punching a player in the face is any worse than trying to stab out another player's eyes.
Dez Bryant - Lie about something that hardly matters - suspension for season
Blount - Punching a player in the face - a little over half a season
Spikes - Eye gouging the F out of a player after he's tackled - half game suspension
??? - Norse77, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5He's an *****.
- VintageRudy, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5It doesn't. LaMichael James rushing yards last 4 games:
10/10 UCLA: 152
10/24 Washington: 154
10/31 USC: 183
11/7 Standford: 125 - Mejari, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5A higher standard? You think if this guy punched someone like that on the street he would get away with being suspended from his job for a few months? The fact that he hasn't seen the inside of a jail for an assault charge shows that we hold superstars to a lower standard.
- smackydoodle, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5You'd probably get beat up.
- thaguru, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4a full game against Vandy is basically a half game anyway.
/vandy alum - Cerebron, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3And Stanford helped push California off the rankings. Crazy.
- Mejari, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2As much as it might hurt your 'macho man' image, in a civilized society we can't have it being ok for people to run around punching people in the face.
- bca102, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Well he has likely cost himself millions in earnings over the next few years because of what has happened to his draft stock. I would hope that the lessons you learn when costing yourself that much are life-long.
- dwest2, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Who said it's okay to do the above things? Strawman.
The Dez Bryant situation is ridiculous; harshly penalizing other players would not make the situation any less ridiculous. - MyronMordino, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2The NCAA stayed out of it is because they're not allowed to hand down punishments for fights outside of games. Since the punch came after the game was technically over, it was up to the team to hand out the suspension.
- Snoogs, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2[wrong article]
- Mejari, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1If they can handle it, let them play. If they can't handle it, get them off the field. We ask a lot, that's true, but I think "don't punch people" is a good baseline. If they don't have the emotional control to not do that, then they don't belong on the field.
- BigBambino, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2"After a thorough review of the situation, I am convinced LeGarrette Blount paid a significant and appropriate price for the mistakes he made on the field, and that he has learned important life-long lessons," Scott said.
Thats a tidy quote for the papers which I'm sure is genuine and sincere. - marm0lade, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Wait you said NHL. Sorry. I think my point can still be made though.
- brainpile3000, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2You're right, because they are in nearly the exact same position they were prior to the Stanford game as they are today.
Roses baby! - bladzalot, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Mark my words folks...he is reinstated, he will be drafted, and he will be the next Braylon Edwards/Donte Stallworth/Vince Young...and I am not talking about their talent on the field...
- Kbriggs, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1I understand what you are saying Mejari, but what we asks of these players is to be a demon on that field. It is hard to expect them to be able to turn that on and off like a switch. Especially a 21 year old.
- marm0lade, on 11/09/2009, -2/+3Dante Stallworth - Drives drunk in his Bently GT, kills a man. BAC of 0.12.
Sentenced to 30 days in jail and a one year suspension by the NFL. FOR KILLING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING.
Blount should absolutely be reinstated. ***** the NCAA and ***** the sensationalist morons who think blount should still be suspended. He punched a man and people are trying to crucify him?
Mike vick killed some dogs and had to go to jail for a year and file bankruptcy. DOGS PEOPLE. NOT HUMANS.
The legal system in this country is equally as ***** up as the population's priorities. - marm0lade, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1True that double true.
Dante Stallworth killed another human being and was given a one year suspension by the NFL and the MSM effectively ignored it. This is a non-issue in the NFL. - natejw7, on 11/09/2009, -2/+2How is this even up for discussion? This is a clear case of malicious eye gouging, which I think is illegal in at least 2 states and 4 small towns. If he tried that in the NFL he wouldn't last 3 games before someone took him out.
- hughesj919, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1Well the fact that the NCAA stayed out of it and left it to the conferences/schools implies that it wasn't an infraction worthy of their time, thus making it ok.
As for the ridiculousness of it, you're right-- the Dez Bryant situation is ridiculous. Which does in fact make the Blount situation more ridiculous. Neither crime matches the punishment. - ElSnuggles, on 11/09/2009, -5/+4There is nothing like the giant sucking sound of your season going down the toilet to get an organization to feel merciful.
- Shadic, on 11/09/2009, -3/+2The sad thing is, you'd get in much more trouble if you just decked somebody on the sidewalk and were caught. But in a stadium, ten thousand fans? National Spotlight?
Meh, two months. - Snoogs, on 11/09/2009, -2/+1Which athletic organization do you work for? I'm not sure that flies in 'society'.
- DallasCowboys94, on 11/09/2009, -1/+0Full game suspension, not a half game. Not that it makes it any more acceptable.
- PearlJammer985, on 11/09/2009, -2/+1They were talking about this last week, but decided to hold off. So what's the lesson that he's supposedly learned? "When the going gets tough, kid, compromise your ethics"?
Guess watching RB Toby Gerhart setting a school record made Kelly and Bellotti a little nostalgic. - dalittle, on 11/09/2009, -4/+2how did Blount make it all the way to college and now has magically learned the lesson of sportsmanship. I think his punishment was way to lenient for what he did.
- asskicker32, on 11/09/2009, -4/+1Ive had people punch me in the street and get away with no retribution. I think we hold them to a higher standard.
besides, I wouldnt be a bitch on the football field and file assault charges against another player over a single punch. - inactive, on 11/09/2009, -5/+1He say bad word?
- wigen1jt, on 11/09/2009, -7/+2So, if I came in to work tomorrow and punched somebody in the face...

What is Digg?
