- lupka, on 04/13/2008, -2/+22Putting Ray Guy on there is ridiculous. Thats not even the highest career average, and I'm sure the guys ahead of him weren't drafted in the first round.
- ThePanel, on 04/14/2008, -0/+16Bart Starr was a 17th round pick (200th overall) in the 1956 NFL draft. He only won 5 Championships.
- Bisclavret, on 04/13/2008, -8/+21Tom Brady, straight up. Steal of the century
- kurupt, on 04/13/2008, -0/+11Super Bowls won since that year: NY Giants 1, San Diego Chargers 0
- pyg13, on 04/14/2008, -1/+9Jerry Rice? ---- though 15th (or 16th?) in the first round .... man, what he did while he played!
- JSager, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7cadmiumpaint is correct. Take Ray Lewis, for example. He may have been taken in the first round, but he was the FIFTH linebacker drafted in the first round.
- joekix, on 04/14/2008, -1/+6Bo Jackson played for the L.A. Raiders, not Oakland.
- GoBack2Europe, on 04/14/2008, -1/+5I know being the 5th overall pick isn't necessarily a steal but the Chargers drafting LaDainian Tomlinson over Michael Vick will go down as one of the smartest draft moves. Michael Vick: sub par career, jailed on dog charges, career over for the time being. LT: MVP, great guy, has the possibility to be the greatest RB ever
- acknotSW, on 04/13/2008, -2/+6It's the busts that prevent me from watching college sports. I can only take so much of an announcer proclaiming some kid as the most talented so and so to ever play the game when he is facing an offense or defense where 85+% will never play in the pros.
Good list though, notice that not a single one of them was ever drafted by the lions :) - OneLess, on 04/14/2008, -2/+6Yeah, we're talking about a great punter drafted in the _first_ round and it's a "steal"? Maybe if he were a 7th round (or later) pick or something...but it's Ray Guy.
- ramenite, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4Dugg for being a top 10 list, and actually being on ONE page.
- SCscoutguy, on 04/13/2008, -0/+3The fridge was drafted in the first round. He is about the only Clemson player that has ever been worth a damn in the NFL.
- GoBack2Europe, on 04/14/2008, -1/+4Agreed. I hate the Patriots(I'm a Chargers fan) but love Tom Brady. His poise is amazing. If you're a football fan you have got to love the play of Tom.
- SCscoutguy, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3The pick that the Vikings really stole last year was Sidney Rice in the 2nd round 44th overall. If he would of stayed in college one more year he would have broken the SEC record for TD's and would have been a top 5 draft pick.
- eeevildictator, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3go to your room and think about what just did
- lupka, on 04/14/2008, -2/+5Yeah, I agree. Some of the latter picks on this list are questionable, but Brady is clearly a success story on a level that we may never see again.
- stellarceltic, on 04/13/2008, -2/+4Shut up
- AuburnTigers, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2He is very good, but you're just biased cause you go to UCF. He very well could be a steal, but we'll see first. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
- AeroZeppelin, on 04/14/2008, -2/+4Marques Colston should also deserve an honorable mention.
Sure, it's only going to be his third season, but he was just a few picks from being Mr. Irrelevant and amassed 1000 yards in his rookie season. - HomerS1, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2IMO, a draft steal is where teams doubt a players ability and he drops down the list.
Both Staubach and Jackson were more of a gamble than a steal (albeit a good gamble).
Staubach, being a Navy man, had a 4 year military commitment to serve between the time he was drafted and when he played. Most teams decided to pass on the long (if ever) return on draft pick investment.
Most teams stayed away from Jackson in the draft because of his baseball career. - psychotron, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2I think if Brady were to not take a single more snap, he'd still have his place among the Top 5 QBs of all time. However, the guy still has a good 5 years in him. He might rewrite the records books yet.
- OneLess, on 04/14/2008, -2/+4Because no one gives a ***** about the Chargers' recent drafts.
- akatherder, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2While he may have been a steal, take a look at the names and accomplishments of the rest of those players on that list. Romo has a LOT to prove with numbers or team success before he belongs there. Just think of Derek Anderson.
- KibblesnBitts, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2It just goes to show you that you never know, I mean Ryan Leaf and Tim Couch are two great examples of great prospects gone horribly wrong
- CowWithBeef, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3Favre didn't even play for the team that drafted him ass hat.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/14/2008, -1/+3Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Tom Brady....3 of the all time greatest QB's to play the game 3 incredible steals....just goes to show that some players peak in college...some take a bit longer. There is just no way to know.
- habenneas, on 04/16/2008, -0/+1Lynx Browser mirror: http://www.lynxcache.org/usr/1/NFL_s_top_10_draft_ ...
- akatherder, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1AD was amazing, but any runningback would put up huge numbers behind the Vikings beastly offensive line. In fact, Chester Taylor DID when Peterson was injured.
- Lutremi, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1The NFL draft is more relevant than other sports' championships in America.
- seattlescott0, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1No Effort for offensive lineman at all? Alot of great players who make a difference are offensive lineman drafted in the 7th round.
- Romeo619, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1I don't know why there are first day picks there, They're expected to be good. When I think of steals I think 5th-7th round players.
Undrafted players should be there as well. - stellarceltic, on 04/13/2008, -10/+1118*-1
- kurupt, on 04/13/2008, -1/+2Good list but, while not considered a "steal" per se, Adrian Peterson falling to the Minnesota Vikings was one pick I'm willing to bet that numerous teams wish they would have made. On the flipside, I wonder if there's a list like this for the top 10 draft busts/first round picks. Ryan leaf, anyone?
- CoronaVegas, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Randy Moss 21st pick back in '98, best WR ever. "Straight Cash Homey"
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/14/2008, -2/+3when you see some of the greatest QB's of all time get passed over for other guys...its a steal. Anyone who didn't pick Montana or Marino, or even Brady made a mistake.
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Didn't he do a stint in the WWF with Sgt Slaughter?
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1The NFL draft is a huge event, nobody cares about the NBA draft. It's got a stupid lottery ball machine too. That's really lame.
- jnadke, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1I was gonna say, "Where's Favre?", but then I remembered he was a 2nd round pick.
Not necessarily a "draft steal", but a damn good player. A trade steal, maybe. Atlanta never intended to play him. Though, if they hadn't picked him, he might have been playing for the Jets instead of the Packers. - jnadke, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Championship rings(*).
- noloveIII, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Not really
- cadmiumpaint, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1he's great...but he's still playing...Montana and Marino have their legacy's cemented...plus i was trying to be diplomatic...lots of pats haters on here.
- Lutremi, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Brian Bosworth
- Lutremi, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2The dude practically invented hangtime.
- Jwoey, on 04/15/2008, -0/+1National Forensic League. I'm a member!
- ShugNinx21, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1The Chargers will need a few more of those deals to balance out the Ryan Leaf fiasco.
- Daisama, on 04/14/2008, -1/+2Devin Hester?
- Mpwns, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1yea look at kurt wanner sure he sucks now but he did amazing things his 1st year.
/rams in 08 - Draking6008, on 04/14/2008, -1/+1Also Brett Farve was drafted in the early second round in 1991 so second round... not such a steal. but no one expected him to do what he did at all
- Romeo619, on 04/14/2008, -0/+0Peterson wont, he's had one good year, and he's a little injury prone. LT won't wow you like Sanders or Payton did but he's damn good and the next back after Barry, and up there with them and Emmitt.
