- AmazingSteve, on 09/25/2009, -0/+41Over the last decade or so, I'd say that the NFL has really successful in taking a lot of color out of the game. End zone dances, the "O.J", now ridiculous things like this . I mean really, 10 grand for a hockey mask? Who's he offending exactly? Horror movie killers?
- MarkMontoya, on 09/25/2009, -3/+37The N.F.L. = No Fun League.
How about a little showmanship?
The league is marketing its players and then says, "don't be characters"... or be characters within this strict guidelines. Makes no sense. We like people, not robots! - Khast, on 09/26/2009, -3/+21I see an easter egg in Madden '11 coming up.
- weters, on 09/26/2009, -3/+15Uh, his name is officially Chad Ochocinco, not Johnson. And he was fined for his Velcro "Ocho Cinco" nameplate... $5,000. Get your facts straight.
- jeremyosborne81, on 09/26/2009, -1/+13WTF, NFL!?
Let's have some fun! - Kannebas, on 09/26/2009, -0/+8Yeah, what was Peyton Manning thinking in 2002 when he wore black hi-tops with "19" on the sides to honor the passing of Johnny Unitas? That classless jerk deserved that uniform violation fine... Always wants to make everything about HIM!
- bubbameister33, on 09/26/2009, -0/+8When players get fined does the money go to charities?
- cyoder, on 09/26/2009, -4/+10It would appear that even the NFL is hurting in these trying economic times. This was during pre-game introductions, for ***** sake.
Hell, didn't Chad Johnson have a well-documented uniform violation during pre-game warm-ups last year when he put a label (that read "Ocho Cinco") over his name on the back of his jersey? Yet they didn't fine him for that. Then again, they've fined Chad so much, he's probably on some sort of discount program with the league. - lnxfi, on 09/26/2009, -0/+5Personally, I would love to see all the Eagles come out in crazy masks this Sunday. Seriously, ***** the NFL suits.
- S7aind, on 09/26/2009, -0/+5A few years ago Redskins running back Clinton Portis was fined $5000 for wearing the wrong color socks.
- inactive, on 09/26/2009, -0/+5yes.
- bubbameister33, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4I think Jason is a nice guy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVXa0rY4GtI - cyoder, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4His last name was "Johnson" at the time of the infraction, hence why I called him Johnson. As far as the fine, you're right, I didn't have my facts straight. You don't have to be a prick about it; not like I was slandering the guy.
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4It's probably in his contract. The mask completely obscures his face. I'm not saying it was necessarily right of them to fine him the money, but I'm reasonably sure they had the right to do so.
- gothsquirrel, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4That's awesome they should give him 10k for doing that. Thats one ***** fine though.
- Kronos6948, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4I agree, KingWiqid. Players should be allowed to play 100% every game. None of this "take it easy on them, you're beating them badly" type stuff. I'm no Patriots fan, but if they're putting a whooping on a team, there's no reason to stop the beating. It will teach the other team a lesson...one they'll study in the locker room to try to improve themselves.
That's the biggest problem with coddling kids today. There's no losers in childrens sports anymore. How else are you going to let a child learn what they have to improve? How about there being no failure in tests? Then that way kids won't have any incentive to learn. - KingWiqid, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4funny part is even when they excell, they are still made to feel like ***** for beating the ***** out of the other team.. i dont rember the teams, but i remeber last year when it was all over the news how some team and everybodies grandmother was pissed at the other team for being so F*ing good and totally whooping the ***** out of them. Then people said.. "oh.. you shouldnt have played so hard..... YOU WERE ALREADY WINNING THE GAME."... and some other commie feel good *****. You know, people are not encouraged to play their hardest anymore, and we're supposed be ashamed of our accomplishments and feel sorry those who didnt practice/play hard enough to go home with the trophy.
- AmazingSteve, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4"The NFL thrived when the biggest stars were the Walter Paytons and Joe Montanas."
You mean the era of Ickey Woods and the "Ickey Shuffle," is that the time you means genius? ***** end zone dance swept the nation that year. It even had it's own music video. Sit down moron. - kahoona1, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4All the fine money goes to charities.
- Antixian, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4@khast cool story bro
- lnxfi, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4with the exception of maybe the snowball thrower and the arrest simulation... lighten up nfl.
the rest are punishable (at best) by their own team. - Arlieth, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4I would pay good money to see some of those 'fined' Touchdown celebrations. Like putting the football with an end-zone pylon. Seriously, think about the fans!
- moo113, on 09/26/2009, -1/+3Showmanship? Don't they do that ever single play of the game? It's constant show boating and one uppery.
- csxtrainwreck, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2Wrong sport lol
- Nitrodist88, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_Ochocinco#Name_c ...
- Chrysalii, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2I see a $7 DLC coming up.
- Chrysalii, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2...wait when was this?
the 40's?
Hell, one of the reasons why the AFL was so popular (and why they're celebrating it 50 years later) was because they had character against the dull NFL. - rockytop9808, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2And then it gets fined to oblivion.
I used to think Goodell would be alright for the NFL. Now I think he has the opportunity to turn it into what Troy Palomalu says is a "pansy league". No fun, no hitting, nothing. The hard-hitting, hard-nosed, fun NFL as it used to be is gone. - shrathor, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1You seem to have some serious hate for people that play the game and like to have fun...
- jayjayjoni, on 09/26/2009, -3/+4well with their inflated salaries these guys can take a little extra taxation. The only shame is that this money doesn't go directly into the hands of our government
- storamin, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1For the record: Fines incurred by professional athletes are tax deductible, and therefore, the government will get less tax revenue (roughly 30% of the imposed fine of $10,000) than they would have gotten had he not been fined.
Ironic, isn't it? - PhoenixAvatar2, on 09/26/2009, -1/+2Saw that one coming.
- Iceman21, on 09/26/2009, -1/+2How is that worth fining someone..wait, wtf, what law did he break? wearing a mask? did the crowd think he was a terrorist, did he break the law?
Why the ***** was he fined 10k and is this legal, uniform violation??? sounds like a work contract guideline, correct uniform etc.
Where in his contract does it say he can be fined up to 10k for not wearing the correct uniform?
Know what? i don't care for digs down or responses, ***** this, this is *****, my workplace says i can't wear a hat, i didn't get fined for wearing one regardless...its not a crime, what the *****? - Khast, on 09/26/2009, -4/+5Ya know, it is actually a very small world. I live about 20 miles from the EA building in Vancouver, BC, and know 2 people who work on the Madden franchise. (One in the sound division, one in the graphic design division.) I also have a co-worker who is close friends with many EA employees, including some of the managers.
Wouldn't it be funny if....
It wouldn't be the craziest thing they have ever done... - Cojafoji, on 09/26/2009, -1/+2All these ***** rules are killing the game. There's no individual style, no "real" charisma. Steven Van Buuren is ROLLIN' in his grave.
- gothsquirrel, on 09/26/2009, -1/+2Um being able to and having a legitimate reason is completely different. Who was really upset by him doing this?
- mrosen310, on 09/26/2009, -1/+2The No.Fun.Leauge strikes again
- inactive, on 09/26/2009, -3/+4how about a little SPORTSMANSHIP?
Profession sports was more popular before players feltthe need to draw attention to themselves with off the field antics. Back in the day when they had class and let their play do the talk.
The rules are not ruining sports. The idiots that necessitate these rules ruin it.
No sport wants to appeal to hte street gang crowd. At least not directly. Anyone who needs to see that kind of ***** to enjoy the game is NOT someone who the sport wants as a fan. Because t is clearly people who have NEVEr played organized spors ever in their lives. - alrightwtf, on 09/28/2009, -0/+1you've already said this numerous times
- crossmr, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1Someone only did that 3 hours before you. Straighten up.
- alrightwtf, on 09/28/2009, -0/+1what do you have against six year olds?
- sgerwel1985, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1Not sure what has been the worst fine in the past years... This or Brandon Marshall (i believe it was him), throwing snow in the air?
- Kronos6948, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1I'm an Eagles fan and I supported this. The mask didn't have an affect on the d backs. They just had a lousy game. It's not the mask's fault.
- shoesbuttback, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1Lighten up NFL. Sheesh.
- inactive, on 09/26/2009, -0/+0They are tax deductible because it is money that they never earned really. Because they just withhold it from their next paycheck.
Regardless...that money in helping society far better going to charities than lettingthe ineffiicent government have it. - epidemic15, on 09/26/2009, -1/+1Why the hell would we want that?
- heatboy99, on 09/27/2009, -0/+0Him wearing that mask must have caused a few heart attacks for the NFL to fine him.
