- c010rb1indusa, on 04/17/2009, -0/+32What's so wrong with watching the Suberbowl with the Ads on another device? Cable companies might not be happy but who cares. This would be great.
- elmontsmilitia, on 04/17/2009, -1/+20why cant we go to nbc.com/abc.com/fox.com/etc and watch what is being shown on tv? Like live streaming (with commercials and all)?
- wendelgee2, on 04/17/2009, -0/+15so ping that ***** and apply local ads based on server locales. If the porn girls can hold up custom signs that say "Looking for a date in BALTIMORE" then obviously it's possible to tell very specifically and fairly easily where a user is.
- ILoveBoobies, on 04/17/2009, -0/+13I think you missed the point. It's about accessibility, not video and sound quality.
- audiblesilence, on 04/17/2009, -0/+12If the NFL and CBS were smart, they'd get together a deal like March Madness and stream ALL the games live and on-demand replay.
I'd like for CBS to work that out with College Football too (at least the SEC) - XtheXlanternX, on 04/17/2009, -0/+11They'll watch it at home? They are talking about on TV AND on the Internet.
- tonytroz, on 04/17/2009, -0/+9"They're the only North American pro sport who still do not offer online streams for NFL games."
Other North American pro sports offer online streams for NFL games? - immatellyouwhat, on 04/17/2009, -1/+9You go put comment on digg and do fail.
- asubigsaxy, on 04/17/2009, -0/+8Chances are you can hook up your computer to that 60 inch TV
- inyearstocome, on 04/17/2009, -0/+5Or... they could stream it in HD. Hulu has managed some HD content, i'm sure it could be done.
- P522, on 04/17/2009, -0/+4Keep it up your doing great.
- joerod, on 04/17/2009, -0/+4I totally agree even if CBS could stream all the CBS games in that kind of nice format as the NCAA i'd be glued to it, I would even consider paying a small fee for it.. This would be so great for fantasy football.
- Cubeforce, on 04/17/2009, -0/+4TV out yo.
- tj111, on 04/17/2009, -0/+3Because local cable and satellite providers get a chunk of the advertising spaces to resell to local business (think all the crappy car dealer commercials). Cable/satellite providers would be none to happy.
- anexanhume, on 04/17/2009, -1/+4lolwut
- lynx44, on 04/17/2009, -0/+3For those of us that have PCs connected to our TVs and don't have cable, this would be a great solution. Of course, the quality probably wouldn't be good enough for a decent picture on a 42" HDTV.
- bleaked, on 04/17/2009, -0/+3Well, considering sites like Hulu and ABC's player (which looks great in HD, but the ad system is barely tolerable) can hardly keep up with their streaming demands on most week nights, I doubt this would satisfy the handful of viewers who would chose to watch the game this way. That's not to say they wouldn't ramp up their network capacity for the event, but still, our internets are not *that* efficient.
I don't know.. maybe it would work just because most viewers would use traditional media channels, but we'll have to see. - Ragone, on 04/17/2009, -0/+3Nothing, it's not like they're going to up and dump the TV for their internet viewing. They're trying to get the game to those who don't immediately have access to beer, a sofa and a television.
- slvrbullet87, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2You could also just watch the TV, it isnt like you cant get CBS for free
- wolfing, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2I don't see the point. You can already watch the superbowl anywhere in the world. Try something like that for the regular games. With DirecTV I have to pay like $7 million to get the 'NFL Sunday ticket' (or something)... and I believe with ads. Ridiculous
- uateva, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2While you're at it, NFL, stop making games almost impossible to watch in Europe, unless you pay through the nose to a satellite company
- LonesomeFighter, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2then watch it on your tv while others watch it on their computers. I spend more time on my computer than in front of a tv, this is why my computer has better speakers/screen than my tv.
but yes, one could also buy a relatively cheap cable and stream either tv to comp or comp to tv. - Shakermaker, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2This.
I never understood why streaming live TV on the internet along with the related commercials is a bad thing.
Although as I type that - local ad revenue would suffer because you would never see any of those "local ads" (crappy commercials at a car dealership with one camera) - you would only see national ads.
Not that it matters a tinker's cuss to me. - CaptainNoPants, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2How's Europe responding to the NFL? Had a few games over there the past few years, is it getting popular?
- CaptainNoPants, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2You've...missed the point. I was saying it would not be a good idea to bring a pc to a SB party. I've never brought a computer to a SB party, sorry for confusing you.
- sm4k, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1My TwitterFeed a-splode.
- lynx44, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1I'm trying to figure out why that would matter to the network? Seems like they would want to cut out the middle man.
The big networks are popular enough that cable and satellite providers can't really get rid of them. Their customers would be really upset if they didn't get the "big" networks. - muty, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1Dugg for honesty
- hoojx34, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1That is what need to be done.
- inactive, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1Really, our internet is not efficient, I thought we had free unlimited bandwidth for all and those evil telecom companies who want to impose caps are mistaken!
- LonesomeFighter, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1I think it is great to do. CBS get money if seen on their tv channel and their website. My internet and tv provider is the same company so who cares with that. Companies put ads out and it's easy to see who sees and cares about the online ads, and convenient since it's only one click away. In theory more people in the world can probably watch the game as well. I really don't see a downside.
- LordEpic, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1Uhhhhhhhh, it's Called an HTPC! and this other thing call Mediacenter...
It's hooked up to my 52"! - JustinJS, on 04/23/2009, -0/+1Why would cable companies get mad CBS is free over the air anyway.
- RealDealRick, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1won't happen
- Stavrosian, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1CBS do a terrific job with their online coverage of March Madness, and they get super-double-bonus points from me for allowing me to watch it from outside of the USA. I wish more people would follow that lead.
- carlosos, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1I never really though about this not being the case at any TV station in my area.
I know at least a few TV stations in Germany already did this before the year 2000 (after that I moved to Florida). I even watched some German TV from Florida for a few years. The time zone difference only sucked...
I guess the difference is that nobody pays for cable TV in Germany (except HBO/Showtime type channels) and the companies don't loose money when streaming on the Internet. Disadvantage is that Germany has like the UK this tax for independent TV and radio that everyone with TV/radio has to pay (still much lower than any cable bill). - Gizmort, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1I watched the March Madness Coverage for the past 2 seasons streaming. It was great. Would love to have the NFL streaming.
- carlosos, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1Outsourcing helps in those cases or they just invest in the future.
- CaptainNoPants, on 04/17/2009, -1/+1I watched a few of the NCAA games online, it was pretty good. I'd more than likely not watch the SB online because I won't be home for it. Tends to get kinda rowdy at some SB parties, not a great environment for pc's.
- GTOFan350, on 04/17/2009, -1/+1Does anyone think that CBS will actually have the servers to accomidate that kind of traffic?
- ByrcheWroot, on 04/17/2009, -1/+1Some of us have streaming to our TVs. Roku with Netflix and Amazon. PlayOn with CBS, Hulu, etc.
- EmilPatrick, on 04/17/2009, -0/+0This will be great when TWC caps my bandwidth. How much overage will I be charged for streaming the entire game?
- GSnake, on 04/17/2009, -3/+2NFL: Stop force-***** your fans with crazy satellite-only coverage. They're the only North American pro sport who still do not offer online streams for NFL games.
- shianova, on 04/17/2009, -3/+2Great Idea knowing that not everybody has cable but most have internet.
- pudnuck, on 04/17/2009, -2/+1if your at a SB party why are you watching it on your pc? Jackass
- CyberSally, on 04/17/2009, -3/+1They should try to get a live feed on Twitter too. I'd love to see them give a play by play with the 140 character limit.
- illusionz613, on 04/17/2009, -2/+0Or just the people with a beer and a laptop, that don't want to watch it stuck in their living room.
