- SillyRabbits, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19The very reason he has broken the running record is because he is such a poor QB. He runs on many, many occations where a better quarterback would be able to make completions to open receivers....
- DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -17/+29Sorry but I have to put my $0.02 in...
As a HUGE football fan and an Atlanta resident, I have to say that Vick is overrated! WAAAAAY overrated.
His QB skills, as a consistently good decision maker, as a consistent good passer, as a consistently good leader, etc... are moderate at best.
Don't get me wrong, when he runs he is at a completely different level then 90% of the rest of the NFL. But there are 21-31 other starters out there that make up the team.
Micheal Vick was the crutch of Va Tech and is now the crutch of the Falcons. - ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13uh, having a high number of rushing yards as a quarterback is NOT a desirable stat. there's a reason the record's stood for so long--quarterbacks try to rush as few yards as possible. they past or hand off the ball.some pro quarterbacks get their asses chewed out if they start racking up rushing yards.
Michael Vick? mediocre, at best. - DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@burchie
Dude! WTF does that racist ass comment have to do with anything? - physphd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Interesting theory...especially because the former has never been done while the latter has been done numerous times.
You crack me up, you silly racist! - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"His QB skills, as a consistently good decision maker, as a consistent good passer, as a consistently good leader, etc... are moderate at best."
Exactly. He is one HELL of a running back. I mean straight up awesome. That said, he is a sorry QB. What ATL needs to do is get themselves a real QB, put Vick in at RB and then they might have a chance to improve the ONLY stat that really matters. And right now that stat reads 7-7. ATL is mediocre at best, and mediocre doesn't generally get into the playoffs (not without luck, anyway), and it SURE AS HELL don't win Championships. - Thumper13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6*BREAKING NEWS*
Ron Mexico just broke Michael Vick's record.
Information about that record is known.
Ron Mexico is overrated in other ways. - cleggy1969, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Potential is only good til your 2nd contract. Anything after that is a pipe dream or a novelty.
- FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5After watching that game, I certainly wasn't impressed. The 2-minute offense of the Falcons was horrendous. It's up to the QB to lead the team in those situations and the offense seemed slow and confused. Coaching is also to blame, but great QBs perform great when the game is on the line.
- saintdesy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Figures. When I used to play Madden, people used to be such a bitch with Vick and basically use him to run all their plays and there was pretty much nothing you could do.
Good times, good times... - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Lay off the man. He's responsible for my second favorite NFL quote ever--second only to Manning's "idiot kicker" quote.
"I have two weapons-- my legs, my arm, and my brain." -Michael Vick - DontSayFanboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Um, I think it was a verizon reference, dude
- physphd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Thatdarkknight
$0.02 = 2 cents.
.02 cents is 2 hundredths of a cent, or one piece of a penny chopped into 50 equal pieces. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6He's dumb as a brick and run like a bat out of hell. I think pretty much anyone with a set of eyes that has watched the Falcons play already knows this. He still does the job the Atlanta coaching staff want him to do, and this record proves it.
Your point? - cleggy1969, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4john riggins x5
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/RiggJo00.htm - Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"What ATL needs to do is get themselves a real QB, put Vick in at RB"
Vick's too fragile to be a RB. - jorisb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I beg to differ.. the sole fact that he can rush as well as pass makes him a nightmare for any defense. His pass completion may not be the highest in the league, but when another quarter back has to throw the ball away, Vick might squeeze in a couple more yards.
There's a reason he's the highest paid athlete in the NFL. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Vick is overrated, his stats speak for themselves, he should do more for his team, not his personal stats. His injurys speak volumes where his prioritys are at.
- kittynipples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And there's a reason why, besides this event happening, nobody even knew who the hell Bobby Douglass is.
- impulsiveboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gather 'round, kids. Let's sing the ballad of Ron Mexico!
(And to you up and coming NCAA players, herpes does not enhance performance.) - epalla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2in other news, Brett Favre set the all time completions record, a stat that actually involves some quarterbacking.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't kid yourself, In the modern era no white guy has rushed for 1000 yards, I think Alstott or whatever was the closest. In other news, no white guy has broken 10 secs in the 100m. It's not racist, It's just true! I'm not saying anything is wrong with it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Give him some decent receivers and he will be great, at worst.
It's really saying something when the guy with the most receiving yards and receiving TD's on your team is the tight end. - macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vick is just a faster version of Kordell Stewart.
- physphd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@DontSayFanboy
Ah, so it is.
@Thatdarkknight
Sorry, I'm too slow to keep up tonight. Apologies. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1think the last ten years. . .? Riggins isn't, and the others, well there aren't others.
- b04155, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@cleggy1969
go skins!!! - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Oh, Yeah! WOO HOO! What an achievement! Another loss! WOO HOO!
Only ONE stat matters. Your Win/Loss record. Everything else is secondary horse ***** to talk about at the watercooler.
Ask Marino if he would trade all those super-human numbers he put up during his HOF career for even one Super Bowl ring. You KNOW what he would say. - Ghengis, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7No, his injuries speak volumes about the pathetic O-Line he has in front of him. Give him *mediocre* recievers, and he'll do better. He would do more for his team if his recievers wouldn't drop every third ball that he gets to them. How can a franchise invest so much in a QB, and not invest in the O-Line to protect that asset? The falcons are absurd, and it's NOT because of Vick. They'v only got a QB, an RB, and a TE on that offense. NO #1 or #2 reciever... all 3's AT BEST... NO O-Line. How can Vick do anything BUT run from a Blitz when they have no O-Line to stop it?
- kilofox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While Vick's career is not over yet..... the one thing these two "running" QB's have in common.
Neither has won a Super Bowl. - K-Flow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3eric crouch of nebraska rushed for over 1000 yards in a season and he was white
- superzorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doubtful info... Such things make me a bit crazy...
- physphd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is your personal definition of "modern era" but in discussion of football history it has a specific meaning: since the move to a 16 game schedule, i.e. when stats are comparable. The phrase 'modern era" also used to mean since the AFL-NFL merger, but that is now separately referred to as "since the merger" because the post-merger years of 14-game schedules make many stats difficult to compare.
And as for others, try Craig James, Franco Harris, etc. I'm not sure why you are being so insistent on this without looking at any facts or doing any research. - rayearth42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And yet, they're still not going to make the playoffs. McNabb was smart enough to stop playing like this years ago and he's a much better quarterback for it.
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1We're hating because while he may be padding his stats he sucks at the whole "winning games" aspect and we don't care about his damn career we want to see the falcons win.
- physphd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Huh, Riggins and others aren't the modern era? Check again.
Kids today.... - opiv421, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2gg vick l2throw
- freshiam, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Damn can you say hater convention, so many haters, a guy breaks a record It seems like it just gave everyone a chance to just hate, and yes if you put anything negative on this post your are a HATER, and one of the signs that you are hater is the fact you saw the post and took the time to write your deep inner thoughts you were probably to coward to say in a real football conversation.
my point.... STOP HATING - Thatdarkknight, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Do you mean .02 dollars or .02 cents.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Atlanta must be celebrating tonight Vick with some new records, as well as their kicker(i think that was on Digg) Lets be serious for a second...Vick is waaay overrated, that explains why everyone knows his name and he just broke a record...
I don't care who you are or what team you like you have to acknowledge Atlanta's achievements today... - aleandro, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Vick haters...
The guy has the potential to be the best in the league. You guys have seen the games..yes he is inconsistent, but this week with both top running back gone his passing game was almost flawless...too bad we loss. - flernk, on 10/12/2007, -16/+6Okay, I understand the complaint that Vick is over-rated, but don't do it under a story about him breaking a 34 year-old record. It just makes you look silly.
- K-Flow, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5this really isn't the point. the point is is that he broke a qb rushing record. shut the ***** up and quit acting like being an "NFL ENTHUSIAST" and atlanta resident allow you to make irrelevent posts.
(randall cunningham rules) - DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5Oh I'm sorry...
WOW! Michael Vick is the greatest physical specimen of a man I have ever seen!
What is special about this record?
Now if he were a running back and set a rushing record like Jamaal Lewis did then that would cause for celebration. I would even go so far as to say that if his super sweet running skills helped his team to be better then that would be cause for celebration as well. As this is not the case, I will stick by my earlier comment: "Michael Vick was the crutch of Va Tech and is now the crutch of the Falcons."
With that said I do give Vick major props for throwing 4 TD passes in two separate games this year! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+3A quarterback is going to rush for a thousand yards before a white running back does!
