- bixby1, on 11/21/2008, -7/+32Have fun in prison, Vick! Atlanta is doing juuuust fine without you.
- reposado, on 11/22/2008, -4/+19As much as I think its pathetic of these celebrity millionaires who cant keep clean. It dog fighting really that bad to lock up a person for years and years?
I know in California it costs on average almost 50k a year to keep an inmate... is this a good use of tax payers dollars to lock up a criminal who is in no danger to society?
How about just fining him 5 million bucks and call it the day... he didnt hurt no human. - AresDiggs, on 11/21/2008, -3/+14Just because someone else gets away with something terrible does not mean he should get away with doing something terrible.
- reposado, on 11/22/2008, -4/+14Killing pigs and cows is okay since we eat them. Killing a horse if it breaks a leg is okay. Killing whale is fine if your alaskan indian or a Japanese. Shooting a deer and letting it slowly bleed to death is fine since its a "sport."
Even tho these animals have a higher IQ than dogs. If you kill a dog the idiot masses will shout "LOCK THAT PIECE OF ***** FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE" while eating their ribeye steak.
I dont get it. - doublebummer, on 11/21/2008, -1/+10Mike, we've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that your getting out of prison today....
- DteK, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9seriously. everyone ***** up. he's taking responsibility for it, not blaming others as he is obviously being made an example of. He was deeply involved in some vile ***** and his life ruined over it. I honestly hope he is really sorry for it and will pull through to get his life back together.
- chicagojack, on 11/21/2008, -7/+14Vick is such a waste of tallent. Who is that a pic of?
- dannyboy3020, on 11/22/2008, -0/+6Ever kissed a girl after she gave you head?
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -3/+9Vick couldn't even live up to 1/10 of his hype. He's an NFL backup at best.
- AresDiggs, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5I'm no PETA member by any means... but causing pain to an animal for the sheer hell of it is disgusting, if you are killing it for food or clothing that is one thing... but to cause them pain for no reason other then to place bets is despicable
- dafragsta, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6What "tallent?" He can run, but he's not an RB. He can't complete 60% of his passes if his life depended on it.
- Sh0rtstak, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5joey porter. I love to read the comments on the espn thumbnails
- mal1964, on 11/21/2008, -3/+8Pay Your Debt to Society and move forward.
- ahoy, on 11/22/2008, -3/+7you know, as a vegetarian, I gotta say the dude's been through a lot. What he did is reprehensible, but I can't help and compare it to the legal animal abuse of factory farming (ie, your thanksgiving dinner). I'm a realist; I'm not anti other people enjoying meat, but I think the method in which they get it is deplorable/abuse.
He is paying his due for what is a crime, and the possibility of a second chance for him should not be out of the question. - swik, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4There are people playing in the NFL who have been involved in the shootings of human beings.
And a quarterback is hard to find.
Someone would probably take him. If not, he's guaranteed to be able to make a decent chunk of change playing in some other football league, name recognition alone would be a huge draw for them.
Press is press. - NotYourProdigy, on 11/21/2008, -4/+8We should make him do cage matches with other prisoners. The losers are eaten by dogs(the smaller the dog, the more humiliating).
- Sheetz, on 11/21/2008, -2/+6The picture is Joey Porter
- Stomper622, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4Have you heard of the Oakland Raiders?
- slapded, on 11/21/2008, -2/+6no NFL team would ever pick him up
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4I'm a white guy.
I always thought a lot of red necks were involved in dog fighting.
Not to condone Michael Vicks actions, but how is it he happens to be about the only person I've ever heard of getting arrested for dog fighting? - pitdog, on 11/22/2008, -1/+4I love APBT (American Pit Bull Terrier), the symbol of bravery during WW2. The breed;'s image was destroyed in the 80ties, lots of morons got hold of these lovely dogs and abused them. I love APBT but do not like folks like this Vick feller. I do know that the breed is what it is thanks to the pit fights, but there's a difference between a dedicated dogman and a moron like Vick. Long live true APBT. The less is written and talked about these dogs by the moronic media the better for the breed.
- Mooinakan, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Although I feel that Vick has repaid his debt to society, I don't think it would be smart for the NFL to let him come back. That would bring way too much negative press.
- oldhat, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Or the cows, chickens, pigs, deer, horses or just about every other bird, mammal, or reptile we can find.
We happily commit unspeakable evils on many an animal, and nobody can muster a reason why some animals are better than all the others.
Do we still import hand-drowned cats from other countries by the tonne to practice dissecting? Yep. - Namco, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Good job ***** up the title. Did you even read the article? It's a plea deal to get rid of the state charges so they can get him into the halfway house program. He wasn't "out of prison", nor will he be for at least 3-10 months. Being held in County Jail during trial doesn't equal prison release. He's still property of the Leavenworth warden.
- Br3ach, on 11/21/2008, -3/+5Return to football? You cant even get into most low paying jobs with a criminal conviction. Good luck on that though
- hellsing47, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2At first I read Vic Mackey.
- DickyT83, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Couldn't be, Vic's busy busting ass in farmington.
- kanojo1969, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2I think people assume that anyone who can be party to dreadful activities like that are pretty much beyond redemption. it's not like he got caught embezzling funds or anything. He tortured, maimed, and murdered many defenceless creatures. And in particular, creatures that man has a special attachment to.
I don't think there's any such thing as 'paying your debt to society' in crimes like this. I'm pretty sure society doesn't think so. Neither do I. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -2/+4Well sir you do have a point. It's pretty ridiculous thought, but you already knew that.
- j0se, on 11/22/2008, -2/+4But Sarah Palin can take pictures with dead moose, she just murdered and its all good. The irony LOL.
- oldhat, on 11/22/2008, -4/+6His crimes against society have never justified such a vicious reaction as you see here.
People call for his death, people wish him and his family harm, they say horrible and racist things about him, they want him to die in jail, or never get be able to earn a living again.
All you monsters who refuse to forgive him, he who has given himself over completely to the authorities and has admitted to whatever they accused him of, are less than human.
Every single one of you on this board spewing venom against him, you are less human than he is. You have posted your confessions to the world that you lack the basic tenets of humility and altruism.
I will back this man, who has shown more personal strength and integrity over the last few years than all you ***** demons who huddle over your little keyboards pouring out your thinly-veiled racist *****.
Yes, racist. Like when white men got away with raping black women but a black man just looks funny and got lynched. If the laws are enforced unevenly then justice does not exist. The more y'all flame, the more you prove my point. Buncha cowardly hypocrite *****! - rohitkumbhar, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Matt Ryan FTW!
- OPR8R, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I'm curious to see how many people would vote for the death penalty for Vick over this....
Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but this is just ridiculous. Dude served his time, let him get on with his life. I doubt he'll be involved with dog fighting anymore. Isn't that enough?
I guess the electric chair would be better, huh? - fugazied, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1"oh, but dogs are different to cows/turkeys/chickens/ducks/frogs/snakes/buffalo/kangaroo/pigs" because people don't usually eat dogs in the US. Given the chance, I am sure a chicken would fight for his life vs another chicken rather than go into an industrial abattoir to be slit/plucked/gutted. Meat eaters can't condemn the guy and take the moral high ground because their food (which can easily be replaced by tofu/soy products) involved cruelty just as bad.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1oh the irony.
- kanojo1969, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1It's the helpless nature of the victim that is so infuriating in animal abuse cases. Also that dogs in particular will still try to love you even when you do terrible things to them.
So while the starting of wars is quite understandable to most people, even if they wouldn't do it themselves....abusing animals is something that 99% of people just cannot relate to. So the perpetrators must be sub-human; moreso than people who kill other people.
This occurs on a sub-conscious level, I guess. but the effect is a strong desire to see animal abusers punished extremely harshly. - NotYourProdigy, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1"Killing a horse if it breaks a leg is okay" -- You see what your doing here? The story reports a little differently on how and why dogs were killed(i.e. "killing of several underperforming dogs.")
- asgardshill, on 11/21/2008, -10/+11Make him clean up dog ***** at the biggest animal shelter in Atlanta for 5 years. Using only his teeth. Then we'll talk about letting him play football again - in Canada.
- NotYourProdigy, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I'll bet you were hearing a powerful symphony behind you when you wrote this.
- vinceislegend, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1All of these comments fail.
- NotYourProdigy, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1As long as your going borderline with the law: potheads make up half the prisoners in the U.S., and 99.9% are non-violent. But I'm preaching to the choir, I know.
- Ob1masterjd26, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Too much attention for something that doesn't matter.
- oldhat, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2I don't know, you would have to have a bunch of cops threaten some idiots with long prison sentences in order to make some ***** up about the only famous guy they know.
Then they would tell you whatever story you wanted to hear about what Vick did to those dogs. You know, when he wasn't in another state living with his family and playing in the biggest sport in the country.
Since when do you believe anything the cops tell you? - mikelist, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1i'm with ya. i had a pit bull who wouldn't let me physically discipline my kids when they were young, so i never was concerned about my kids playing outside in a questionable neighborhood, as long as ace was with them.our current vet says that pit bulls are great dogs when raised properly, as opposed to rottweilers and mastiffs (anecdotally add irish wolfhounds) who are a risky proposition to everyone except their recognized owner/master. i also currently have a pit bull grand dog (no grandchildren from her ungrateful owner) who is the most pleasant, ingratiating dog i've ever seen.
otoh, at one time it was okay to have people as property, to be treated at the whim of their owner. - oldhat, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2I'm not black, stupid. What ignorant, racist tendency gave you that idea?
And we only elected a black man to avoid a electing a woman. I guess we are more sexist than racist....whooo what progress!
And surely you are not saying that now Obama is in, white people are no longer racist? Oops, I think you did. Stupid. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2Dogs that didn't fight well were hung, drowned and beaten to death.
- MisterEThoughts, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1He is already out?
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2I'd think he wouldn't do it again if they just fined him a Million bucks.
Yeah, compared to all the other crappy things that go on, and even the stuff our leadership is getting away with -- let's not dump on Michael Vick like this.
Don't fight with dogs, or you go to the poor house. Now, if they just enforced that -- problem solved.
We don't need so many people in prison. Nor do we need to over-punish people. Not when we have slaughterhouses for pigs, which are just as sensitive a creature. I love dogs, but they eat them in China. Do we arrest and jail people who might have eaten them when they come to the states? What are we trying to accomplish here; reducing organized crime, illegal gambling, and cruelty to animals. I think a huge fine can accomplish that and I don't see how one or two arbitrary jail terms is going to make much of a difference. - oldhat, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1What, do YOU deserve his talent?
Actually, you are right. Probably if he couldn't play ball he WOULD have been just another framed and forgotten about black man caught up in the system. And nobody would have given a ***** about him or those useless dogs. Like nobody gives a ***** about all the other rail-roaded inmates on trumped up charges that dirty cops get dirty snitches to testify against.
Don't worry, I'm sure nothing like that will ever happen to you. You're probably a protected class. -
