nytimes.com — Making fun of the Lions is too easy, like an ice fisherman casting his line into a drink cooler. In a city that is home to auto executives who traveled in private jets to Washington to plead poverty, the Lions still provide the biggest laughs.

Only one of their last six first-round draft picks is still with the team (that being the excellent Calvin Johnson). The suits seem to have no interest in seeing the team get better, and until someone takes the franchise away from the hapless Ford family, us die-hard fans will never have our hopes and dreams realized.

  • newerakb, on 11/28/2008, -1/+5I look at it as karma making sure things are fair. Some states don't have any teams worth watching. Here in Michigan we've always had the Red Wings, and we've had the Pistons and Tigers on and off, lately more on than off. So if we also had a football team worth a damn, it wouldn't be fair to the other states.

    It also lets me not give a damn about the NFL, which saves me time to do other things.

Although they went into the Pats game winless, since then they've also beaten the Chargers, Bills, Broncos, Seahawks, and Raiders. Not exactly an imposing schedule, but still, a win's a win. If you're thinking of last year, they beat the Ravens for their only win.

  • inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+2no they werent. they were pretty bad 5-11,4-12, but they have had prior success. superbowl in 2000, Appeared in the playoffs 01,02,03,07. the lions have never had a good season in that same time. fisher has been the titans only coach while the lions have had seven in the same time period. something needs to change in Detroit if the lions dont want to become an NCAA team. lol im not sure they could even beat a college team.
