- blurplevtx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14He was a total class act, the things he did for NFL football, MLS soccer, Kansas City and even Pro tennis will carry his legacy on forever. RIP
- jaimemberart, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14He will be missed. The league wouldn't be what it is today without him.
- AgentMull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You should put all your money on KC anyway :P
- top5design, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"The league wouldn't be what it is today without him."
Truer words have not been spoken. As a KC native (all my life), I've been witness to the amazing things that Lamar Hunt has contributed to this city as well as to many others throughout the United States.
- He started the AFL, which without, the NFL would not be nearly as interesting. It also would be without the name of its biggest game of the season. He was the one who originally coined it the "Super Bowl"
- He brought the Chiefs to Kansas City from Dallas (his home town) because it was the right thing to do. It made him a helluva lot of money.
- He was one of the founding investors in the Chicago Bulls (was a minority owner until his death)
- He started Major League Soccer
- He has been inducted into EIGHT Halls of Fame, including Football, soccer and tennis
- The AFC Championship trophy is named after him
- He was also an astute businessman (although he was the son of an oil tycoon), building two amusement parks in KC and creating an amazing underground storage facility in an underutilized area.
He was a class act and he always did things with integrity. He won't be missed just by the NFL, he'll be missed by all American sports. - mrn111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6A true pioneer. Without Lamar Hunt there would be no NFL as we know it.
- lovek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I know that many outside of Kansas City will miss him, but this is a real punch-to-the-gut for KC in particular (even though he lived in Dallas, he did more than you can imagine for this city).
I hope his family will carry on his legacy of... well... just being an all-around good guy.
RIP - mesoed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6A big loss for football and Kansas City. Lamar was such a visionary. Without him, they're likely be no AFL. Kansas City has lost two huge icons in the last few months. Lamar Hunt, and Buck O'Neil.
- Kbennett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6He did great things for the NFL, but he was one of the main reasons US soccer fans have a professional league to watch (MLS). He was a great man and a fan of the sport. He will be missed.
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I am from The KC area also. it is weird how much this realy afects every one here. He was one of the very very few people born in to a wealthy family that was realy a cool guy. i worked at both his amusment parks (sadly it was after he sold them every one that has worked there along time allways talked about how much beter it was to go there and to work there when he owned it tho) my mom worked at his underground storage. he has in some way or anothere touched everyones lives in the kc area.
It was kinda cool that he was able to know that they finaly had a thanksgivings day football game in kc before he died. - diggmanchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I never really knew him today, but reading about him, he seemed like a good person overall. R.I.P. Lamar Hunt
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Kinda late for him pray for his familie and every one else that he was close to.
- cdbeshore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Lamar's son takes over the team. The same son who was playing with a "Super Ball" when he was a kid.
Lamar was a true gentleman who did great things. SI should yank Dwayne Wade and name Lamar "Sportsman of the Year". - Dallas70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He's joined the greatest league in the universe and can now enjoy a game of football from the ultimate seat.
A great man who had a great life and left a great legacy for the sporting world, enjoy your new true life Lamar and from this Dallas fan - Thanks! - adamjhwkfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As a chief's fan and someone who works around sports everyday, the things he brought to the masses is almost incomprehensible for a single person. We will miss you Lamar
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Put all your money on the Chiefs this weekend, now they got something to play for.
- elbeeble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a great article at http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/6272624 talking about the impact he had on soccer in America.
- jkatzer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2this Kappa Sigma has passed away and joined the chapter celestial. my best goes out to his family.
AEKDB - fleury29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I pray that they will come to comfort quickly. I pray for the family that their pain will subside. I pray for his soul, so that it may see the gates of heaven. I am not stupid, he is gone and he is not coming back no matter how hard I pray, but this life is short, and not the end. Think long term, think about life after death, and then tell me not to pray.
If I live my life as if there is a God, live my life accordingly, and I am wrong, what did I lose?
But if I live my life as if there is no God, and I am wrong, what did I lose? EVERYTHING.
-William Paley - petealbert78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lamar Hunt, Paul Brown- made the NFL what it is today...
- Tenchi-kun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Truly major sports in America will never be the same with the passing of a visionary such as Lamar Hunt. His efforts have touched so many of the sports that Americans watch or take part in.
Happy Trails, Lamar, we hope you find what you're looking for. - top5design, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I wish I could agree with you, but the way that the Chiefs have been playing (as well as the installment of their crappy new coach), they'll get thumped by the Chargers.
- nick0909, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually, yesterday the line had the Chargers at 7.5 point favorites, and today they are 9 point favorites. Apparently Vegas thinks their chances got worse.
- tulpe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thought the same :P
- Zidul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Oh, this isnt about half life, is it...damn you Lamar...
- orlyfactor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2/tear
- fleury29, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3RIP
He'll be in my prayers. T_T - legallyillegal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Apparently he was shown tapes of Casey Printers' preseason games.
- AgentMull, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Yeah, with that new cure for Dead they just discovered.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Let's hope Bill Ford Sr. is next! Fire Millen!!! 2-11, it is hard to imagine that they can run this Lions team worse than their company.
- Ramtech, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Prostate cancer??... seems his wife wasn't doing a very good job...
- ohhhL3ThaL, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1I hope he gets better.
