- elfuego, on 01/08/2009, -4/+23If Sproles plays the way he did against the Colts, it may not make a difference.
- greenanator, on 01/08/2009, -2/+20I don't think this will hurt the Chargers that much. He hasn't been producing this season and a healthy Sproles is better than an injured LT.
- killakl, on 01/08/2009, -2/+11He's probably too busy making Campbell's Chunky Soup commercials and opening his mouth WAYYY too wide when he puts the spoon in his mouth. Does anyone else notice this?!?! It annoys me more than it should and I really don't know why, HELP!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-u8u0LKlRo - Cole2026, on 01/08/2009, -6/+15Really? 12 points, please. The Steelers beat the Chargers in the regular season (11-10, but actually 18-10, that touchdown at the end was totally legitimate), and with the two weeks of rest should be able to outperform the Chargers (plus LT is out, Sproles is hot though). Not to mention, the gametime temp on Sunday is supposed to be around 1 degree F, pretty chilly.
I'll project Steelers by 3 points. - vtbarrera, on 02/03/2009, -16/+25As a Charger fan, this isn't good news. But on the bright side, we have Darren Sproles. Chargers take this game by 12 points.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -4/+13All I gotta say is....SAAANNN DIIIEGGGGOOOOOOOO...SUPPPPPERRR CHAAAARRRGEERESSSS!!! (singing in a very drunken voice)
- Sol1, on 01/08/2009, -6/+13Any true football fan, Chargers fan or not, has got to respect (and in many cases, love) LT. He's a tough player and a great guy both on and off the field. Any doubts about his commitment to the game after this and having to sit out the playoff game last season are absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure there's no place he'd rather be than on the field with his teammates.
Now as a Chargers fan, GO BOLTS! - supermanly, on 01/08/2009, -1/+8I don't know why people bring up past games which happened well before 99% of the players on these teams were in the NFL (for the 1994 game) and before any of them were in college for the 1983 game. Games within a few years and this season's games are really the only relevant ones.
That's like saying that since the Pirates won the World Series in 1960 against the New York Yankees, the Pirates can beat them again this season. History is rather irrelevant in sports regarding outcomes. - bruin8uclap, on 01/09/2009, -1/+7Doubtful for the game? Doubtful? He's got a freakin' detached groin!
- WatchDragon, on 01/08/2009, -4/+10Every week people say chargers are gonna lose, and look where we are now.
- 8randon, on 01/08/2009, -2/+7good luck against the steelers defense.
colts rushing defense: 24th in the league
steelers defense: 2nd in rushing, first overall
plus they have troy polamalu - smacksaw, on 01/09/2009, -2/+7Typical bandwagon no-class Charger fans. Not only are they off the bandwagon, they've thrown LT under it's wheels and made Sproles drive over LT yelling "Hey, wait, I'm still alive...I'm still ARGHHHHHHH"
The Chargers will not beat the Steelers. Jackson, arrested - a distraction. Gates and Chambers are banged up. Hester is way undersized for a fullback and Sproles cannot pass block or pick up a blitz even he were 20% bigger. That ain't what he do.
Rivers top 3 receivers in Jackson, Chambers and Gates are all facing problems. And then they have a bigger problem, which is the Steelers defense. I'm trying to gameplan and think of a way that San Diego is going to be able to win and the only thing I can think of is special teams since they could break one with Sproles and punter Mike Scifres could bury the Steelers inside the 10 more than once. No one is talking about the real bright spot on that team which is that Scifres is easily the best punter in the league right now and he has a hot hand...or kicking leg, as it were.
All of these people dreaming of Sproles breaking out are going to be disappointed. He has not been hit the way the Steelers will hit him. He cannot break free and run unless Polamalu gets neutralised since Troy can catch him. Oh, and who will neutralise Troy? Downfield blockers. Ah, yes...like Chris Chambers who can't get set up or cut or Antonio Gates who is also hurt? Or lazy-ass Vincent Jackson who just got busted for DUI?
It's gut-check time for the Chargers. They need to break out and get some big plays early or they lose. Big. - subliminali, on 01/08/2009, -1/+6It's honestly sad that even elite running backs only have like a 5 year shelf life in the NFL before the inevitable injury decline plagues the rest of their career. Don't stick a fork in LT yet but odds are he's going to be another Terrel Davis rather than an Emmit Smith.
Really looking forward to the game this weekend. - sofunnyithurts, on 01/08/2009, -9/+13As if it wasn't already going to be a blow out in favor of the Steelers
- Cole2026, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4It'll most certainly be a great game, and as I said, it will be close. :)
- nickceleb, on 01/08/2009, -1/+5It probably will end up being the best defensive effort that wins the game so you really have to give it to Pittsburgh. However, I wouldn't bet it and I won't be shocked if the Chargers advance.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -5/+8Umm.. No, they wont.
- kuantan97, on 01/08/2009, -6/+9Screw LT. He freakin' killed me in fantasy this year.
BTW, ESPN.com's new design absolutely sucks. - GTOFan350, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Totally true, unless you have Terry Bradshaw against Dan Fouts then your statement is false. Even then Pittsburgh beat 'em.
- morgino, on 01/09/2009, -3/+6No one gives the Chargers a chance just like no one did last week. I remember back in 94, Chargers vs Steelers. Steelers were favored by 14, had the parade ready and lost. The Chargers are a much better team then they were when they first played the Steelers. Keep hatin haters...we have a good shot
- ddflair4h, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3we'll see
- EthylAdded, on 01/08/2009, -1/+3Sproles moves just a little faster than every one else right now. I don't think the Steelers will slow him down.
- Birukun, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Local news reported he is done. ESPN needs to catch up.
- Lonandubh, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2we Were 0-1 against the Colts this year, too...
- legendxx, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2Colts have always had huge problems with the run. What sproles did is not that surprising to anyone who has watched football.
- b0neman, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3I think my Bolts have some heavy thinking to do no matter what happens this week on up to the Superbowl; which we will easily make by defeating, in order: Pittsburgh, Baltimore and the SheLie's.
If he wasn't such an icon, we probably should have traded him last year or at least shopped around. Who knows what kinds of D-Line and or O-Line help we could have gotten for a "healed up" LT. He just hasn't been well and probably needs to sit out half of next season to get healthy. Phillip Rivers has finally figured out how to run the offense. We actually have enough quality receivers to make another go at this for the next 2 to 3 years.
The sad fact for LT is that he is old for an every-down back. The window of opportunity is quickly shutting down on him. Of course, we shouldn't count him completely out either. Look what happened when we kicked Rodney Harrison's old, lost a step, carcass to the Pats: Two SuperBowl Rings and one "perfect" season. - Fleagleman, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3The Steelers should come out dressed in Patriots uniforms. The Chargers would most certainly lose then.
- smacksaw, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Sproles 40: 4.48
Polamalu 40: 4.51
Sproles carries a football while running. Troy carries pain for his target. Running with a football slows you down. - kenyadoit, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1The funniest part is, his team went 11-5, and he's watching at home.
- JCEEZ, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1cus he was out for 3 quarters?
- kenyadoit, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1We also lost to Denver, but I'm telling all the other Charger fans out there to take it one game at a time and stop jinxing them every year with Superbowl talk during the preseason.
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1what the hell does that even mean???
- bigfinger, on 01/08/2009, -2/+3last week it didnt look like they missed him.
- moonxero, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1roxgod666 ftw, i dugg u up.
i hate know-it-all sports fans - mikebb79, on 01/08/2009, -1/+2Yeah, seeing the statistical downfall of running backs after their 30th b-day is pretty crazy. It's rare that a rb can keep producing after that. I hope LT is the exception though.
- ThatsNotPudding, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Every coach told Darren Sproles he wasn't big enough to play Division 1 ball, except Kansas State's Bill Snyder.
- JCEEZ, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Go Chargers!
I was at the Chargers v Colts game this past week and it was intense. The Chargers were able to shut down Manning and his incredible offense.... Special teams really won the game.... all punts were inside the 20, 3 of them inside the 10.
I really think the weather will be a huge factor, as San Diego really never drops under 50 degrees (and when it is 50, its in middle of the night or something). - mikebb79, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1I would have to say that if LT isn't able to go, a healthy Sproles would probably be a better decision than an injured LT.
- TheInformer, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Tomlinson will be traded in the offseason and Sproles will become the starter. Tomlinson still has some value but is on the downside of his career, gets hurt too much now, and pouts more frequently.
- smacksaw, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1I said you were going to lose to the Steelers, and here you are, 0-1 against them this year. That's where you are now.
- smacksaw, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2Wow, thanks for proving my point about delusional Chargers fans.
What, did you forget they were drafted in the same round in 2004?
Your logic is retarded. Dan Marino must obviously be the best QB of all time. I mean, ***** Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana with all of their Super Bowl wins. What really matters is Air Coreyall, right?
I don't ***** get you Charger fans. You are so goddamned ignorant it's just stunning. Can I ***** direct you TO SOME RESEARCH, PLEASE?
Rivers
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6763/career;_y ...
Roethlisberger:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6770/career;_y ...
Yes, QB rating, the be-all, end-all to comparisons. The worthlessly flawed measurement. Yet your guy Rivers is a 92.9 and Ben is an 89.4...you didn't actually think to look that up since you didn't know it? You just went for it. Your guy is 3.7% better in QB rating. Wow, what a huge gulf.
Well, Rivers must be the better passer. Because his 205.7 yards per game is more than Ben's 208.0 yards per game. Oh wait, it's not.
Ok, Rivers is better at big pass plays. Because his 7.5 yards per attempt is better than Ben's 7.9. Oops, it's not.
Hmm. Well, I'll give you this. We know that Ben fumbles a lot. In fact, he's fumbled 32 times and lost 15 of them. Rivers has only fumbled 30 times and lost 12. Still, that's pretty close. Oh, but wait. Here's where you get pwned. Rivers has played 52 games Ben has played 72. Ben fumbles .44 times per game, losing .21 of them. Rivers fumbles .57 times per game and loses the ball .23 of the time.
Perhaps it's his 60% 3-2 playoff record and his 69% 33-15 record as a starter that makes him better. Except for his lack of Super Bowls. Because those numbers are CERTAINLY better than Ben's 70% 56-24 record and his 80% 4-1 playoff record (which includes his Super Bowl).
In summary, like the typical Charger fan, you don't know *****. Even if I were to concede that the Chargers 8-8 suckiness meant they had to pass the ball constantly and that somehow meant Rivers was good and not just busy, your argument is still delusional. - roxgod666, on 01/09/2009, -2/+3Even with the injuries
Chargers Offense > Steelers Offense
Steelers Defense > Chargers Defense
"The Chargers will not beat the Steelers."
Why would you be so confident?
The offense relies on the quarterback. Roethlisberger is garbage and Rivers has the best quarterback rating in the league. Gates will still play and he was still a major weapon against Indy. Sproles is fast, can find holes, and is strong for his size. It's like you completely forgot how bad the Steelers offense it. - LowFuel, on 01/08/2009, -5/+6Steelers doubtful vs. Darren Sproles
- kenyadoit, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Agreed,
Their last game wasn't won by 12, albeit this is a different mode the Chargers are in since then. I don't think Sproles will be as much of a factor as he was against Indy especially considering the Steelers defense. This will be another close game, but it will be a defensive battle. - smacksaw, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1That guy could eat soup with a ladle.
- roxgod666, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1lol why the ***** are you comparing career stats? What relevancy does that bring AT ALL? Current season stats are THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS. Maybe he was better at a younger age but that doesn't show how good he is playing NOW!!! Your whole argument is flawed and holed like a ***** bath sponge. Who cares about superbowl? Who cares about records as a starter? Looking at past stats proves or shows nothing except how ***** retarded you are.
P.S Look at my profile icon *****. I'm not a Charges fan, im an Eagles fan...you know the team that beat the Steelers and their "top" defense 15-6 where ***** Ben couldn't get a single touchdown. I couldn't care less about the Chargers but i just like to mess with retarded ***** like you. - sternje, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2Sproles can do it! 43!!!!
- roflmaololstorm, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Lawyer Milloy was in a playoff game this year. Bellicheat was watching at home.
