- blktooth420, on 02/01/2009, -1/+36it took me like 10 minutes to realize this wasn't about Kurt Warner doing a guest spot on family guy. But, Kurt Warner's awesome, one of the most down to earth dudes in the NFL.
- jordanlgta, on 02/01/2009, -0/+13Lucky he's a family guy.
- darwinwins, on 02/01/2009, -0/+12kurt warner united missouri and iowa. he's a ***** saint for two states now a third. plus he's an actually decent man. that pretty much makes him one of the better people in sports.
- blackbelt88, on 02/01/2009, -0/+10Kurt Warner is a great story. Sometimes his wife can be a little crazy, but I'm glad that he has made it back to the top and I'll be rooting for him on Sunday.
- EmperorChow, on 02/01/2009, -3/+13wow....that whole Plain White T thing in the article didn't feel forced at all.
/s - foxley, on 02/01/2009, -0/+10Go Cards.
- Kumaku, on 02/01/2009, -1/+11Kurt Warner, he has work ethic. You gotta respect the guy.
- Nouman6, on 02/01/2009, -0/+9Keep it at Fitzgerald and ANYWHERE AWAY from Polamalu - and you'll have a solid game :)
- smacksaw, on 02/01/2009, -0/+8He's already cemented his legacy with the people that matter - his family and his current and former teammates.
Whether the HOF enshrines him or not is really up to those who are paying attention. This isn't baseball and people don't need to be complete stat-whores to make up their minds. I think you need a mix of stats along with intangibles and other relevant factors.
I always use Eric Dickerson as an example. Here's a guy with a relatively short career. His first 6 or so out of his 10 years were prolific. But he was mired in contract disputes in the middle of it and ineffectiveness towards the end. Still, people look at his skill and he is of course a hall of famer with said skill. His stats alone don't do it.
When you look at Warner, you have a guy who waited until he was what, 27, 28 years old to get his shot? And when he got it, he had three solid years before he was deemed too old. He bounced around due to politics more than anything else before getting 2 years starting with the Cards. Think about it - if he starts for them and plays a full season next year, he'll have the same amount of full seasons with the Cards that he did the Rams. If he plays FOUR full seasons with the Cards, he will be a Cardinal MORE than a Ram.
Given what he's done in his limited opportunity, I think that's mitigating circumstances. How many players get their team to the Super Bowl in 5 full seasons of play? Five full seasons, 3 appearances. It's all in how you look at the stats.
Then, factor in all of the guys he made great. He helped Faulk somewhat. He helped Holt a lot. He'll have two guys in the HOF who he had a part in making great. And someday, we'll probably see Larry and maybe even Anquan there. He'll have provided them with some pretty compelling numbers as well.
Kurt is a class guy. When he's had a chance to put up numbers, he's put them up. He's been mistreated by the Rams, the Giants and somewhat the Cardinals. And he still is an exemplary football player. Guys like Michael Irvin are the opposite. What do we want out of the hall of fame? I want the total package. Kurt Warner IS the total package. - GUTTS, on 02/01/2009, -1/+9“Dad, I just wanted to let you know how proud I am of you. I’m so thankful and honored to be your daughter.”
This isn't fair at all. Came from nothing now he's a pro athlete, making tons of cash. And he's a great father? - aaronhoffmeyer, on 02/01/2009, -1/+8Kurt is a good guy, although I wish he would say refrain from evangelizing when they stick a mic in his face after a game. But, over his career, he always does it, so at least he is consistent.
Just about everyone has picked the Steelers in this game because of their defense and experience, but this matchup reminds me a lot of the game last year between the Giants and Patriots. Until the end of the season, the Patriots were the better team, but the Giants peaked during the postseason, growing more confident with every win. The Cards remind me a lot of last year's Giants, and could very well win this one going away. - johnny2k, on 02/01/2009, -0/+6FTA: Undrafted out of college and cut by Green Bay in his first N.F.L. camp, Warner spent six months stocking grocery shelves in his hometown, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. /FTA
Actually, if I am remembering my Warner lore correctly, I believe the stocking shelves gig was in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he went to college at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI).
I got to hear Kurt Warner speak at a prayer breakfast here in Cedar Rapids back a few years ago. I would not be surprised if he goes into Christian ministry when he retires from football. - MrBlack08, on 02/01/2009, -0/+5Kurt Warner is an awesome guy. I worked at a summer camp for kids with special needs and back when the camp was getting started he donated the entire dining hall which is a central hub to the camp. His son, Zachary, who is a camper there is an awesome kid to hang out with, very entertaining. I have also met Jesse his daughter and she is a wonderful person as well.
He is an incredibly hard working and committed guy, which is something really cool to see from someone of his position. I know there are a lot of very giving and great football players out there, but unfortunately it is usually only the bad ones that grab the publicity.
But anyways, its great to hear such a positive story about him, wish him the best of luck. - scroogereport, on 02/01/2009, -0/+4Go Warner!
Super Bowl Faithful Unashamed

- adamshrwn, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3I too thought "Family Guy... with microphone..." that this was about him doing a voice over for the cartoon. Still, good human interest piece.
Also, is everyone on this site rooting for the Steelers to lose? Now I know what it feels like to be a Patriots fan.
I'm looking forward to a solid game by two great teams. - blktooth420, on 02/01/2009, -1/+4apparently you don't subscribe to grammer either? haha jp bro.
- InfernoX, on 02/01/2009, -0/+3I've never seen a sarcasm detector broken so thoroughly, even the mighty /s tag failed to set it off.
- VaporBro, on 02/01/2009, -1/+3It seems today, that all you see, is ol' Kurt Warner cementing his legacy...
- markus7353, on 02/01/2009, -0/+2Is Jesse hot?
- johnny2k, on 02/01/2009, -3/+5I agree with you on your game analysis, aaron. However, I will say that I am VERY happy to see him evangelize when they give him a mic. I love it when athletes use that opportunity, being that they are then using their incredible abilities for the Lord! :)
- teemingvoid, on 02/01/2009, -2/+4Buried for misleading me to believe it was some how related to family guy.
- smacksaw, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1Sure thing. Everything here on Digg is their property, so have at it!
- nreynolds, on 02/01/2009, -1/+2he's so awesome, he even got Jesus to help get him to the super-bowl, apparently (that's what he said)
- smacksaw, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1I think they failed because once Martz took over, the loyalty left.
Looking at a similar thing in Brady or Tomlinson, the correct thing is to keep Brady while the right choice was to get rid of Tomlinson.
They needed to build on something there. Warner was the key to it. Brady is the key to it. Tomlinson is not the key to it. The mistake is replacing your key component when you're peaking. - Ultramagnus0001, on 02/01/2009, -2/+3Go commercials
- smacksaw, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1Actually, I was saying that sometime in the middle of his first couple of years (the strike was 1987) he missed some time and I can't recall, but it was either right before or after that he had a contract dispute. That cost him in my book, and if Warner can be bounced during his prolific years and then have a downslide like Dickerson did...fair is fair. Dickerson never got his ***** going again. Warner did.
- polyun, on 02/02/2009, -1/+2Hey Foxtrot, shut the hell up and just respond to the article.
- kukurio, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1I wouldn't say he was mistreated by the Rams. After the debacle of the Superbowl XXXVI, wherein the two-touchdown favorite Rams were beaten by the Patriots in an upset that we now know was accomplished through Belichick's cheating, the entire team imploded. They still haven't recovered from the blow, which ultimately cost the team and the city of St. Louis millions. Kurt Warner was just one casualty of Bill Belichick's actions.
- astrixx, on 02/01/2009, -5/+6Dugg for family guy.
- jedinate, on 02/01/2009, -1/+2I don't know. It's a great story and he's an exceptional QB, but Hall of Fame? When I picture a Hall of Famer , I never picture someone who spent 4 years in the middle of their careers being considered washed up. If the SB win happens, though, I think I would swing his way - 2 teams is impressive.
- johnny2k, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1smacksaw,
That was some prolific, HOF-qualifying writing there! I so much appreciate your excellence! Can I quote you in my blog? Seriously? Of course, I also agreed with what you said, so I must say I have some bias here. :) But, keep in mind, I'm in Cedar Rapids, hometown of Warner. He's part of Cedar Rapids, and we are very proud of him!
Here in Cedar Rapids, they already named a street after Zach Johnson. Now, they are talking about one named after Kurt, Though Cedar Rapids may be the definition of Fly Over Country, this place is definitely on the map!
Great post, smacksaw! Thank you!
(Please let me know if I can quote you in my blog) - jedinate, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1I don't quite agree with the Dickerson comparison, when he retired, statistically he was the 2nd leading rusher ever and is still # 6 AND his crap years fell at the end, not middle of his career. Warner has never had the "all-time numbers" to be compared to the greats, although he has had some amazing seasons. Having said that, winning is the most important stat for a QB (Why I'd rather have Brady than Manning) and if Warner wins another SB ring, I think he's gotta be considered.

- FoxtrotYankee, on 02/01/2009, -7/+8I'm rooting for the Steelers because I can't stand Kurt Warner and the irrelevant born-again crap that comes out of his mouth every time he sees a camera.
- penmaster, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1Kurt Warner is a great guy. Find information on booking Kurt Warner or how to contact Kurt Warner booking agent here:
http://www.playingfieldpromotions.com/Kurt-Warner. ... - PhoenixTx, on 02/01/2009, -4/+5Dude, get over him evangelizing. It's what makes him a good guy in case you didn't know brother.
- kukurio, on 02/01/2009, -0/+1I'm from St. Louis, and though I'm not a (football) Cardinals fan, I'm hoping that they win and am digging you up for the following reasons:
1. The football Cardinals used to play in St. Louis.
2. The Rams sucked this year.
3. They share a name with my beloved baseball Cards.
4. Kurt Warner is awesome. - bsmang, on 02/01/2009, -1/+1I'm rooting for the Steelers because I'm a Steelers fan, but I guess also because of that now that I'm aware. If there's one thing in this whole world I can't stand, it's people who think that other people should follow their religion.
- jedinate, on 02/01/2009, -2/+2The thing that bothered me (as a Pats fan) is that when the Patriots beat the Rams in the SB, I saw him in the locker room ,after, saying "The best team didn't win". I can't stand a sore loser; even Brady gave the Giants props after the game last year, despite being cocky before.
- PhoenixTx, on 02/01/2009, -4/+4I hear you John and I appreciate you. You're a saint among demons here.
- Logrusmage, on 02/01/2009, -1/+0Considering the song is quite feminine I think you just called it straight as an arrow.
- BenTheTank, on 02/01/2009, -7/+6Ugh, that song is so gay.
And by gay I mean it has sex with men. - johnny2k, on 02/01/2009, -4/+2Man, FoxtrotYankee, you are a party-pooper! Can you leave out the anti-religious crap (oops, another Lincoln for the Swear Jar) when we're talking about the guy? Huh? Go back to watching cartoons. And I am sure "Family Guy" is your favorite, being that you had to get so lame with your comment. You're just mad, because you were fooled into coming to this thread because "Family Guy" was in the title.
That being said, while I take a stand against what you said, I do not stand against you. Instead, I will pray for you. And, I pray you will forgive me about my comment about the "Family Guy" cartoon. It wasn't really even meant for you. But I took out my disgust on you, and I apologize.
If you really don't like what comes out of Kurt's mouth, his evangelizing, then hopefully you don't watch sports events very often, because it is happening more and more! Many of the top-name athletes, pro and college, have witnessed for the Lord on live TV when the mic goes in front of their face. One of my all-time favorites with that is Carlos Zambrano, starting pitcher for the Chicago Cubs! So, my advice is deal with it, or quit watching sports. - FatLoser, on 02/01/2009, -8/+2i thought it did seem kind of forced... why did you comment on it if you didn't think it was notable? buried for idiocy
- kostka, on 02/01/2009, -17/+4go Steelers!
- fauxbro, on 02/01/2009, -21/+7Wow i wish i could read this article. Unfortunately i don't subscribe the the "New Obama Times"
