- cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+16The NFL Network is right on this one. Wasn't it just last week that Comcast was starting to be investigated? For the giving less channels for the same amount of money thing? I mean if I had to give out Nintendo Wii's to people to sign up for my service, it would seem pretty futile at that point. Sounds to me like they keep trying to cover up for their shortcomings compared to Verizon.
- chicagojack, on 11/20/2008, -2/+13The way the NFL refs are blowing calls this year, I guess it won't surprise me when the FCC screws this up
- KenSPT, on 11/20/2008, -5/+15I dislike the music of the Goo Goo Dolls.
Completely unrelated, but I feel it needed to be said. - awtripp, on 11/20/2008, -0/+10Has anyone tried watching the Thursday night games on NFL.com? I don't even mind that the streaming quality more or less blows, however what I do mind is the fact that most of the time they're not even showing the game. There's just three douche bags sitting in the studio talking about ***** whatever, and then one of the ***** will say "oh it looks we just had a touchdown scored!" And then they'll go back to the game for like 5 minutes.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8Troy Polamalu got robbed.
- jefbob, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8Its more than Comcast involved here....
***** Time Warner Cable too!!
(I just want to watch the football games) - fribhey, on 11/20/2008, -3/+10NFL wants it's cake and eat it too.
here's a quick run down:
NFL: we want the NFL network to be free for all comcast customers.
Comcast: our customers want the NFL Ticket, you let us offer that and we will carry the NFL network for free
NFL: no can do, we offered the NFL Ticket to Directv exclusively and nobody else can have it
Comcast: we'll then we won't force our customers to pay for a channel they don't want when you won't give us the channel they do want
NFL: you are discriminating against us by not offering the channel for free.
Comcast: you are discriminating against us by not giving us NFL Ticket, give it to us
NFL: no
Comcast: go ***** yourself. - danevahey, on 11/20/2008, -1/+6And who loses? The consumer! ***** both the NFL Network AND Comcast
- neverender, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5So you think its right that NFL Network can force a cable company to include its channel on its basic tier to all subscribers? Thus forcing the cable company to charge all of its subscribers an additional 55 cents for a channel they may not even want? If you believe that, then maybe NFL Network should should be forced to offer its NFL Ticket TO ALL cable networks and NOT just DirecTV.
Both companies are playing games. - dirtyfrog, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Unfortunately the comment about Dish Network is not true. About a week before the 2008 NFL draft Dish moved NFL Network from the Top 100 package (Basic) to the Top 200 package. I signed up for Dish because they offered it on the basic tier originally. They then sent out a letter saying that was only a "trial."
I didn't upgrade because the only time I really ended up watching it was for the games they show and the draft. It wasn't worth upgrading to the next level for me. - meruru, on 11/20/2008, -4/+8I don't understand the NFL's case at all. You don't want your network on the higher price tier then don't see your product to Comcast. Why does the NFL get to dictate how Comcast does business? I'm going to point a camera at a brick wall and then demand Comcast puts me on basic cable because otherwise they are harming my ability to "to compete for advertising revenue".
- eggsovereasy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3FIOS isn't available everywhere...
The more you know! - inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4The cable companies are still butthurt over losing their monopoly. They need to quit their bitching and play ball (pun not intended). This tier system of service is *****. Customers should be able to pick and choose exactly which channels they want to receive.
- ChiliMac, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Just another reason why I got rid of Comcast. I'd rather watch over the air programing then ever give Comcast another dollar of my money.
- smackydoodle, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3My cable company doesn't carry the NFL Network, but thanks to the internet and TV Ants, I can watch the games with 0 problems, full screen, lovely.
- eggsovereasy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3The FCC regulates content on over the air broadcasts (that anyone can receive, e.g. terrestrial radio and antenna TV). Subscription based services are not subject to content regulation because you are paying to have it brought into your house, there for you either approve of the content or it's your fault when your kid watches it.
This is why they have uncensored music on Sirius and why they can say "*****" on South Park.
That being said, I do think the FCC does some regulation as far as their business practices go. - joerod, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3its all about greed and who ends up paying for it? Me the consumer who just wants to watch the game. shame on both sides!
- LuCiFer6, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3It's kind hard to choose sides here.
1. You have the NFL wanting the NFL Network free for everyone right? But they want the cable companies to pay for every subscriber, even people who don't watch NFL.
2. You have cable companies who to add the Network to one of their Sports Tiers for people who will order the channel if they really want the network.
It looks like the NFL Network maybe a tad bit to greedy. But I put the blame on both for still not being able to work this deal out. - Trifold, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3You know what'd be awesome? If I had ANY other options for TV in my area. No FiOS, no alternate cable provider, no satellite (apartment on wrong side of building)...my only other option is stream stuff from Hulu or something.
***** Comcast and their local monopolies. - neverender, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3exactly right.
NFL no bid the NFL TIcket to Comcast.
Comcast responded by moving the NFL Network to an upper tier claiming that they didnt want to charge extra money (55 cents) to customers for content they might not want. - bblande, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Has anyone see the NFL Network games "broadcast" at NFL.com? What a complete ***** joke. They go to a studio for "exclusive analysis" and back to the field intermittently...they advertise that you can watch NFL Network games online but it's a big slap in the face of football fans.
- Crosshare, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2The NFL is not the one putting on the higher tier, it's Comcast, I wish that would be clarified. Customers should be demanding more out of there cable company, I don't have to put up with this crap with Directv.
- bpolark, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3The NFL is trying to get the best of all worlds. The huge viewer base that comes with basic cable tiering and high licensing fees from the cable operators. Walk lightly Mr. Goddell, many a business have traveled this road, only to piss off it's core audience.
- cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2I will Digg you up and assume by saying football you meant soccer.
- Crosshare, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3Because Comcast were the first ones to cry about NFL Network's Thursdsay Night Football contract. Comcast holds it on their extra cost sports tier and when their customers complain that they can't get the local market game they say it's NFL's fault. But here's the catch, Directv and Dish offer the channel standard to their customers, Comcast just wants extra money for it.
- datacowboy, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2If cable could offer the Sunday Ticket package like DirecTV has (the package is exclusive between the NFL and DirecTV), then this whole issue would go away. Cable wants to be able to offer Sunday Ticket. But you can only get that from DirecTV. Having Sunday Ticket is a huge competitive advantage for DirecTV, so I can see cable being a prick about the NFL Network. If Sunday Ticket becomes available on cable, the NFL Network squabble would go away completely.
- digitalagent, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2All about greed. NFL network didn't have a viable business plan to get viewers so they held back 8 games or so a year that were pulling in 100's of millions in ad revenue to broadcast over their exclusive network. Remember when these (and many other pre-season games) were broadcast on TNT and major networks? NFL was making money hand over fist on these games. They pulled them to help pay for their own network and it didn't work because the cable companies refused to make people pay double the price for a network that most wouldn't watch more than 4 months out of the year. NFL is seriously in the wrong and trying to broadcast b.s. live look-ins on the Internet is a farce. They need to wake up and understand that people are going to get these games whether or not the NFL makes money off of them. Just like RIAA (***** the RIAA), NFL is living in the past. They need to make these games free to anyone, anywhere. The ad revenue alone will pay more than the amount they lose from cable companies not carrying their network. It's like the NFL made junkies out its fans by giving away the product for free and now they are pulling the rug out. People will go through withdrawal, but they will survive. NFL network will not.
- slapded, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2i aint payin for that *****
- azbmr, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Someone out there gets them and will share it.
http://www1.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports - TommyBoy919, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1The NFL is unbelievably stupid with this whole situation. They put games on a network that hardly anyone can watch, and they won't allow anyone other than DirectTV carry the Sunday ticket package. So I want to give them ad revenue by watching their Thursday night games, and I want to give them direct revenue by ordering NFL Sunday Ticket every season, and they won't let me. They won't let me give them more money. I can't believe how ***** retarded that is. ARGHHHHHH!
Oh, and ***** Comcast and their over priced, heavily compressed, pseudo HD. As soon as FIOS is rolled out in my area, I'm gone. - azbmr, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1WTF do you mean after the fact? There is only live content. Well, there is a bit of a delay, but only a couple of minutes. Did you actually click on the link?
- cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1www.myp2p.eu
- hybridcreation, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1This is pretty much ***** on both sides. I pay extra for the NFL Network because I think it's a necessity for any self-respecting football fans, but the fact that both sides can't control their greed enough to where I don't have to is ***** ludicrous.
- Asten77, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Ah, but don't forget - for many, many people, their monopoly is intact. I simply have no other options available, save for Over-the-air. No Fiber, no U-verse, and no southern sky view.
- wsuvtx, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Other than being ridiculously over priced what is the major problem people have with Comcast? I have not problem with them ever, other than price. When FIOS gets to my area then I may switch.
All I see is a company making money and until people stop paying them, they will not change. - cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1They should just give it to us in replacment of one of the many channels they took away. Since we are still paying the same amount. Then give some of that to The NFL.
- bewmIES, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Never said it was, that was more of a "I have and you don't na na na na na na." Of course, if the NFL Network means that much to you then you always have the ability to _move_ somewhere that has it.
"I want the NFL network, daddy, so make the FCC give it to me" is just lame. If you want to watch a Thursday night game that bad, take your wussy ass out to a bar! - cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1myp2p.eu is an amazing resource for watching games while at work.
- bewmIES, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1It's not absurd, it's called capitalism. Vote with your wallet. If NFL network isn't important enough for that, then this whole conversation is moot.
- Asten77, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Comcast really doesn't get it. I just got a note that they are adding MLB Network to the Digital Basic tier. So now you have Big 10 and MLB on basic, but somehow NFL belongs on the sports tier?
- MRintheKeys, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Absolute truth.
- LuCiFer6, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Exactly
That's what I'm waiting on for one of these cables to do. For instance I tend to watch more channels like Bio, A&E, Discovery, National Geographic and so. But for whatever reason Bio and National Geo are on a different package than Discovery. I'm like please take away some of these Tampax channels I know I don't watch like Oxygen and give me what I want. - cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1 How many channels do you have now that you don't watch but are still charged for? You mean the millions and millions of NFL fans don't want to be able to watch football on Thursday and Saturday? Hell I wish there was a game everyday. They're both scumbags though. However, it's not like Comcast couldn't take a 55 cent hit per subscriber with their profits. Comcast gives you less for the same price. I never hear people talk about this. They constantly take channels out and charge you the same. So I don't see how it could hurt them if they gave us the NFL network.
- stormkrow, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1It was a sad sad day when I discovered that our new house was outside of the ATT Uverse. God I hate Comcast, it's like a dial up world.
- mfed3, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Hopefully this doesnt affect my www.oneseason.com account. Making mad loot
- ChiliMac, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I guess that's why I think Comcast and all the others should let us order ala cart. Let us order what we want and not be told what we have to have. Comcast forces to many of their channels on their customers.
- cowboy86, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1www.myp2p.eu
- eggsovereasy, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I love football as much as the next guy, but to move and leave my family and friends? That's absurd.
