- mdinitto, on 05/18/2009, -2/+31good news for football fans
- FirstCuts, on 05/18/2009, -4/+30I have a feeling a lot of people are rejoicing today. AMIRIGHT!? /Kornheiser
- klshel, on 05/18/2009, -1/+21Is there a law against a 2-man booth on MNF?
- petebot, on 05/18/2009, -0/+14Thank God.
- amprather, on 05/18/2009, -1/+13CHUCKY!!!
- wmute, on 05/18/2009, -0/+12Wilbon wins again
- miffelplix, on 05/18/2009, -1/+11Great news, tired of the lame jokes, faux stupidity.
- inactive, on 05/18/2009, -3/+12Kornheiser was horrible. They guy knew nothing about what was going on and just made the stupidest comments.
- mojomac69, on 05/18/2009, -0/+9many thanks
- thegoldenavatar, on 05/18/2009, -1/+10Yeah, Kornheiser is ridiculous, and that's one of the reasons I like him, but he's a bit out of place for Monday Night Football.
- mlbdenver, on 05/18/2009, -4/+12I don't know why there's all the Kornheiser hate. He is awesome on PTI, and is a top-notch sports journalist. Even if you don't like him, there's no way you can put him anywhere close to the same category as Dennis Miller. Dennis Miller knew nothing about football, nothing about sports, and was so bad at humor, that he had to use pre-written material for each broadcast. Nothing he said was funny, and he completely destroyed any broadcast he was in. You can't say that Kornheiser doesn't know sports. And in his own way, he is pretty funny. His work in the booth was nowhere near the quality of PTI, and that I don't understand. But he wasn't as bad as all the haters make it sound.
- ytsejam29, on 05/18/2009, -3/+10Now we need to find a replacement for Mike Tirico.
- Mockylock, on 05/18/2009, -3/+10I used to work with Kornheiser at The Washington Post.. He could be pretty arrogant at some points.
- BenTheTank, on 05/18/2009, -2/+9I really like Kornheiser. I enjoyed his book "Bald As I Wanna Be" and like him on PTI, but he was way out of place on MNF. I'm betting Gruden will be a good pick.
- ironrex, on 05/18/2009, -0/+7Please, expand on that.
- cyoder, on 05/18/2009, -0/+6I agree with this. I'm a Kornheiser fan, but on PTI, and I think that's where his talent is best suited. On a show where he has a short time to rant/rave on a given subject, as opposed to sitting in a booth for 3-4 hours calling a game.
I do like Wilbon's NBA commentary, though. Maybe because he relies less on zany translations of sports topics, but provides a more thoughtful perspective. Again, I like the zany, but it has its place. - tiroger, on 05/18/2009, -1/+7Now please bring back to Tony Kornheiser Radio Show...
- Barbarino, on 05/18/2009, -0/+6I think when Mike and Mike and Dikta did a game last year it was great!!!!!!!! Bring them back!
- toddc612, on 05/18/2009, -2/+8Actually, Kornheiser pretty much sucked..
- INDOAZZ, on 05/18/2009, -2/+8This is just Child's Play for him...
- palanthos, on 05/18/2009, -2/+8I applaud this move. Kornheiser wasn't my least favorite announcer ever (that distinction firmly belongs to Dennis Miller), but I definitely think Gruden's a fine replacement.
Gruden did a nice job with the draft while working for the NFL Network, and I like the idea of having a second NFL veteran - a coach - sitting across from Jaworski in the booth. The two will be able to provide new levels of insight together, where Jaws was constantly contending with Kornheiser, who wanted to dumb it down a bit. This is a football fan's ream. - coastiefish, on 05/18/2009, -1/+6Thank Goodness.
- jryaniv, on 05/18/2009, -0/+5Ha, I hope they have a long delay and a bleeper handy. Actually, I'd like to hear "Gruden uncensored" on HBO or something -- just let him be as creatively profane as possible while calling games.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -1/+6I guess ESPN couldn't pony up for the Kornheiser Bus
- IKORKYI, on 05/18/2009, -0/+5he's great on pti, but he was flat on MNF
- mrkredo, on 05/18/2009, -2/+7Best news ever! Now I won't watch MNF on mute anymore.
- TWallaceWD, on 05/18/2009, -0/+4Than.
- NismoTigerWVU, on 05/18/2009, -2/+6Man this sucks, I love TK.
He kept things fun and reminded us that football is only a game.
I guess this means no penguin dance on MNF :( - itswhatilivefor, on 05/18/2009, -0/+4I hope they have their f-bomb censor ready
- hokie47, on 05/18/2009, -0/+4I have a feeling that this will be a one year deal because there is no way Gruden won't be a coach in 2010.
- sprNmgcHlmt, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3i like tony but that wasn't the best job for him.
- Contradictions, on 05/18/2009, -1/+4Probably from people clicking on the digg button.
- SirBruce, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3A sports writer? Arrogant? Inconceivable!
- FirstCuts, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3rob132 -- Stuff hits FP based on a whole bunch of stuff, not just the number of Diggs. You'd be surprised.
- xanksnap, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3Now Satchmo has no more excuses not to do the radio show anymore... good news!
- Egotrippin, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3Thank you lord and heaven. Not just for Kornhieser leaving, but replacing him with a great personality who knows his football. Nicely done.
- nedy78, on 05/18/2009, -2/+5Hopefully he stays longer then a season.
- gall0249, on 05/18/2009, -2/+4Love Kornheiser. But while he wasn't great on MNF (he really got no speaking time) I will miss him. When Drew Rosenhaus was on last year defending Plaxico after the gun incident, Tony was the only person that asked Drew real questions: Why did he have a gun? Do your other clients carry guns? Do you think it's your responsibility to advise your clients on carrying guns? Who cares about the play by play and other garbage they talk about. I'd rather listen to a funny commentator or no commentators than the other two.
- ClarkWells, on 05/18/2009, -0/+2Couldn't agree more. He was clueless.
- FirstCuts, on 05/18/2009, -0/+2tiroger -- Someone mentioned on Twitter that the radio show IS coming back actually. I always enjoyed that.
- greggootz, on 05/18/2009, -4/+6Great move by ESPN...Tony is great on PTI, but his knowledge of football is questionable at best...
http://rbireport.com/ - MagicHobo, on 05/18/2009, -0/+2A popular hatred of Tony Kornheiser.
- deeboe, on 05/18/2009, -2/+4Kornheiser was the worst thing to happen to MNF since Dennis Miller!
- doomeyes, on 05/25/2009, -0/+1I don't want humor. I want someone who knows football. Good-bye, Tony.
- baajes, on 05/20/2009, -0/+1i enjoyed tk's humor :(
i hope gruden also jells as much on air as he did on the field. - HamSandwich, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1I'm not that big of a fan of Theismann, but Patrick and Maguire are great. I really wish they'd get the MNF gig.
- Egotrippin, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1Nope. He was terrible on MNF. He was repetitive, brought up irrelevant topics to the discussion, interrupted Tirico and Jaws constantly, and was hardly ever funny or clever. Ask any NFL fan if they thought Kornhieser brought anything the show. 9/10 of them will tell you no.
- MagicHobo, on 05/18/2009, -1/+2On the contrary, I think PTI is not the best sports show on television because if I want to hear to a "real human being" yell about sports, I'll go to my local bar.
Also, I don't want to hear about "things other than sports" when I'm watching football. It's exactly the reason why Tony Kornheiser is a terrible football commentator. I'm watching football, don't try to crack jokes about pop culture. - jba68, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1That's right, and for good reason
- TheInformer, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1Thank God they're dumping Kornhole and replacing him with someone with the knowledge of Gruden.
As a bonus, ESPN now has a guaranteed gimmick for halloween. -
