"I didn't even make the comment," Porter said. "It's really the ref's word against mine, which is not a good situation." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7BYAAAAH!!!!!
- animewars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dunno if Porter actually said it, but he's not exactly a moral role model. It wouldn't surprise me either way.
- theblueprint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I am a Browns fan, and hate the Steelers more than anything. That said, they are a classy franchise, and play football the "right way".
Besides, VonOlhoffen doesn't play there anymore :) - bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not $140,000. It's $70,000! Get it straight!
- willhoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I didn't realize this was playtime in the schoolyard.
- cab1030, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I love this line from the linked article:
Joey Porter doesn’t need a reason to do anything, because Joey Porter is crazier than a bag of angel dust.
It's so true. Joey is crazy, but also one of the best LB in the league. - MatthewTheRaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Steelers are a rough and tumble team from an old steel town. They play old school football. It's not pretty. But it's fun to watch.
And even in a year like this, Steelers fans are some of the most loyal fans out there. Go to any major city in this country and you will find a Steelers bar or three. By way of example, a good friend of mine recently moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. He watches all the games a block from his apartment at the closest Steelers bar. Good luck finding, say, a Jets bar, outside of New York. :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No one watches monday night football?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGpUlA1UJgg - willhoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you're kidding right... crazy like getting shot.... or even owning a dog that could take down and maul a horse to death....
- irixman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A Browns fan? I admire you for having the ability to stick with your franchise even with a bad record. Tons of Steelers "fans" are jumping off the bandwagon, and we were the champs last year. I guess it shows you who are the true fans, and who rides the bandwagon.
That said, Kimo is a pretty classy guy who played in Cinci. He is a born again Christian who was the only person who stayed with Carson after the injury, and was obviously very distressed. I actually felt bad for him, with the way the media portrayed him, especially since most people forgot that a Bengals offensive guard blocked him into Palmer. - Chebyshev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cowher only spits because he can't help it when he's pissed. :-)
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't most of these guys earn millions?
He probably wouldn't bat an eyelid at $15k. - Chebyshev, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I'm biased, but I regard the Steelers as one of the most admirable franchises in the NFL. Talk about stability in ownership, coaching and development of players.
- irixman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Compared to whom?
Without the work of owners like Dan Rooney, the NFL wouldn't be nearly as popular or successful as it is today. It starts up top -- and Rooney is one of the best owners in the league. He allows no crap. - YetiMaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny...Funny...Funny
- jjallday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm from Pittsburgh and I love the guy. If I lived anywhere else, I'd almost certainly hate him. With that said, he acts like an escaped mental patient most of the time.
- liquilife, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bah. I agree that the Steelers are a classy team but what right does this guy have to be so angry with the refs considering the horrible calls made in their favor during the last superbowl?
- Chebyshev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He was out at a bar and a bullet not meant for him hit him in the ass. Aside from being in a disreputable place, that doesn't seem all that crazy. As for his dog, sounds to me like the dog is crazy. I have a dog too, does that make me crazy?
I'm not defending the guy, I just think he's smart and can play the system a bit in order to make everyone think he's scary. - irixman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The thing that gets me about this article -- Tyler Brayton was fined 25K for kicking Jerramy Stevens in the, um, "hog and piglets" (profootballtalk.com :)). Jerramy Stevens was fined 15K for trying and missing.
And Porter gets the same fine for saying something about his frustration in regards to the refs.
Obviously, I am a Steelers fan, but I don't sip the kool-aid all that much -- when Porter got ejected for fighting, I was happy to see him kicked out. But, come on, isn't 15K a little excessive?
From profootballtalk's Rumor Mill,
"
Universally overlooked by the "real" media in the wake of the decision of the NFL to fine Raiders defensive end Tyler Brayton and Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens $25,000 and $15,000, respectively, for their conduct near the conclusion of Monday night's snooze-fest is the reality that the penalties imposed on the watch of new Commissioner Roger Goodell are significantly higher than past fines for intentional, violent contact with an opponent's crotch. [...]
A year ago, the going rate for a shot to the hog and piglets was $7,500. Now, the penalty for a first offense has increased by 333 percent." - irixman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_to_Officiating_in_Super_Bowl_XL
Try again -- the NFL has publicly upheld all but a few calls. - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That guy needs to cut back on his daily intake of Rageahol.
- Chebyshev, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Pfft. He's just crazy on camera because it gets him on the cover of SI. That is true about the way many athletes behave. Have you ever heard about him doing "crazy" things outside of football (like Dennis Rodman or something)? Me neither.
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You are retarded.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I mean the players, and the coach. You constantly see them kicking, spitting, stomping, etc. You never see them help the opposing team up off the field.
- Chebyshev, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2bury please
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -17/+9The Steelers are a dirty franchise. Doesn't surprise me at all.
