- roastedbagel, on 12/29/2008, -4/+30I can't begin to imagine how good Chad feels. This is all more sweeter than fudge.
/Dolphins fan - inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+17Can we have him? And pass along Favre too! 9-7 would be ***** awesome.
/Lions fan - moraldebate, on 12/29/2008, -3/+16No, no Jets - you should keep him. And keep Brett too, he's got a great arm and he'll get you to a Super Bowl. No seriously, please keep these guys.
/Dolphins fan too - Jabrams2, on 12/29/2008, -2/+12as a Jets fan, this was the absolute right move. The man was under .500 in his 3 years here, and presided over a disgusting collapse after the team was 8-3 and poised to do some damage. Next move: fire the D coordinator, O coordinator and don't bring Favre back. Enjoy the playoffs Chad
- coltrane68, on 12/29/2008, -0/+9Wasn't it just two years ago that Mangini was described as a "genius" who would finally bring back respectability to the Jets franchise?
The management of this team should consider the possibility that the players just aren't that good, and that bringing in Brett Favre to finish his career with a middle-of-the-pack team wasn't such a good idea. - hagis, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8he isn't..
- footodors, on 12/29/2008, -2/+10Somewhere Belichick is smiling!
- amauldin71, on 12/29/2008, -0/+8Good luck getting another job in this economy.
- WickedSmart, on 12/30/2008, -0/+8But the rest of New England is weeping because Mangini lost the one game we've ever wanted him to win.

- spoofer56, on 12/29/2008, -0/+7Well... I hear these days the Lions are looking for a coach who can take them to their first win in a long time.
- Avaseal, on 12/29/2008, -2/+8Did you just call Pennington a fudge-packer?
/Random ***** - DaClub, on 12/29/2008, -0/+6The rat has left the building.
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5I'm assuming you're a Lions fan and he's not.
- krahzee, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5About time the guy stayed healthy a whole season
/Jets fan - 5fifteen, on 12/29/2008, -0/+5He made some pretty ***** play calls leading to a few of those losses.
- RaysinX, on 12/29/2008, -2/+6i live in New York and even I think our expectations are rediculous
- Sonique99, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3But Wade Phillips still has his job...sigh.
- roastedbagel, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3Didn't intend on that, no.
/my cats breath smells like cat food - blackinthmiddle, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2@sibos
Neither could a corpse! - treehugger87, on 12/29/2008, -5/+7Here's a Patriots fan hoping that they don't hire Bill Cowher as head coach and don't pick up Matt Cassell off the waiver wire. After what they did to us yesterday, the Jets deserve going through a long dry spell. This is worse than when that stupid kicker O'Brien missed the game winner at the end of the game in 2005 forcing the Patriots to play at Denver instead of at home against the Jets in the divisional round. The Jets are cursed and deserve all the sorrow that they perpetrate upon their fans.
- T8erT0T, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2No way will Favre be coming back.
If you looked at Mangini during the Dolphins game, the whole time he had a look of stupor on his face--concentrating half on the game, and the other half on what he's gonna do after he's booted.
A new QB and a better D coordinator would put us in better business. - bodiez, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Later Mangini. The terrible playcalling and garbage games down the stretch when all we needed was a win or two makes me not regret his firing. Hopefully we get Bill Cowher and a NEW QB as opposed to Brett Favre and his chucks into triple coverage.
- fauxbro, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Bill Cowher was fortunate enought to have the Rooney's hire him and they were patient and handled him consitantly. I hope Bill Cowher refuses. In today's "what have you done for me lately mentality" in the NFL, If you don't produce as soon as you walk in the office your fired. Think about the best francises. Steelers, Colts, Patriots they all have consistant front offices and hire well, not just hire "big" names who are expected to turn around a francise in five minutes.
- jba68, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2So who's next to go to New York for 3 years, then get fired
- nrvous250gt, on 12/29/2008, -2/+4Have fun trying to find a job as a whistleblower. The Patriots are not the only team with secrets. Adios Mangina!
- sibos, on 12/29/2008, -2/+4I agree. They've both got many years ahead of them!
- Pats Fan - FI5HERMAN, on 12/29/2008, -2/+4Coaching is a little like russian roullette !!!
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Funny how the general always get fired, but the soldiers losing in the trenches just get richer contracts.
- krahzee, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2The Jets have a shot at Cowher, but not Cassell.
NE is still unsure if Brady will be ready to start in Sept. reports are that he is behind in his recovery after needing that second surgery to fix his knee.
They will franchise Cassell so they do not have to rush Brady back. They have the cap space to do so, why take the chance not doing it? - sibos, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2He couldn't hurt them
- myk7, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2mangina
- ShugNinx21, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1And my point was that Mangini didn't go running to the NFL and "rat" the Pats out. What he did was stop the Pats from cheating on his team, and as a side effect the press picked up on it and started investigating.
Would you do nothing if you knew that your opponent was cheating against your team?
Bellick ***** up in deciding to continue the cheating against an opponent that knew he was doing it, and exactly how, and then he got burned for it.
The difference between other cheating teams and the Pats is the Pats got caught doing it actively. In a few years nobody will care about it, just the same that nobody cares about the 90s Cowboys, Denver, and the 80's 49ers. - netant, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1I'm amazed that neither Jet fans nor Miami fans don't realize that. I am still satisfied that the Jets got rid of Pennington.
- ISellDrugs, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1I feel bad for you and Calvin Johnson. The bright side is that you have the first pick in round 1.
/Pats Fan - netant, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1They never should have melted down to the Chargers, Broncos, Raiders, Seahawks or 49ers. And I still think the Jet team on paper should have still solidly beaten the Dolphins last sunday.
- netant, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1Shott wasn't the basket case the DC was. And we might need to keep him to get his dad.
- netant, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1Herm was a new coach, and you "needed" to give him a little time to demonstrate himself. And it wasn't like he went 1-15 like Kotite.
- Drakoi, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1terrible move, shoulda fired the guy that hired a washed up, roided up favre
- davdev, on 12/30/2008, -1/+2See the quotes, that means I don't think they are really stealing, just the Jet's love signing former Patriots. And who's upset. That's part of the game. I just said there is no way possible the Pat's are going to allow Cassel to go to the Jets.
- netant, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1No, Mangini is not a BAD coach, but he's not a superlative coach either. Even if you blame all the Jet losses against mediocre West Coast teams on Favre, it still doesn't explain the defense disappearing. Even if Jenkins was playing injured, one guy does not make a defense.
I don't even think its merely Mangini's fault, his WHOLE coaching staff is suspect, PARTICULARLY the defense. But here's the key thing. The Jets losses were all against BAD teams. A good coach is supposed to figure out what is causing the underperformance, and then make adjustments. As far as I can tell, the Jets didn't do squat, week after week. Its a bit harsh, but Mangini's firing is TOTALLY justified.
If I were to make an unjustified guess, my perception would be besides that Mangini didn't put his finger on what was making the team lose, he wouldn't go after his coaching staff or his players for the underperformance. I understand not publicly making personnel into scapegoats, but there should have been grumbling about how there were players that HATE the guy. I have a feeling he liked his players and his coaches, and wasn't going to get at them for failing (do a Parcells, or a Bellichek). And what about getting the guys on the bench ready to play?
It also seems to me the defensive coordinator didn't make course adjustments as (bad) offenses were consistently gaining yards. I saw A LOT of completed passes in (soft) zone defenses.
I also don't understand why they were passing so much in bad weather when they were going against notably bad run defenses. If you don't get a lot of yardage with the running game, keep pounding. A good running team will eventually be able to break out yards. Don't keep making your old man throw 300 yard games. - DMTZ, on 12/30/2008, -1/+2I think it would be useless to fire mangini without letting go of both the coordinators. Maybe I am a harsh new york fan, but shottenheimer completely misused the running game the last 5 games of the season, and the defense was completely undercoached as well. They also need to get rid of favre and try to get cassel.
- jasonstock, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1like the fact that they have been trying to push farve out for a few years so they could put rodgers in and start a new dynasty. Also how they have been treating Farve like ***** for the past few years and forced him to retire?
- peak1700, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1That was YOU?
- KDX200rider, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1Serve you right Mandouche!
- ScottyAnimal, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1BAHAHAHA
- ShugNinx21, on 12/30/2008, -1/+2So let me get this right.
Bellichk was cheating and Mangini knew he was a cheater, and Bill knows that Mangini knows that he's a cheater and how he cheats.
So Bill plays against Mangini's team and cheats knowing that his opponent knows, Mangini tries to stop bill from cheating against his team, and in the process people end up finding out that Bill is a cheater.
And somehow Mangini is the *****? - sadilak, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1As much as we like to nail Favre, I think he was OK. Just the fact that mangini ripped favre at the end of almost every game in front of the team must have pissed favre off. Also the jets receivers are *****. Some of favre's interceptions are really not his mistake..
At the end of last year, everyone said "Glass" Pennington is crap, but look what happened this year. And to all you Favre haters, comeon, you guys dont even know the truth as to what actually happened in Green Bay. - Chrysalii, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1I don't think Jauron is going anywhere.
- jasonstock, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1enjoy losing the first playoff game
