- ericdano, on 09/03/2008, -9/+31Lame. Buried for not being about Sarah Palin. It is all her fault people end up in professional sports.
- RevLoki, on 09/03/2008, -2/+13This happened less than 6 blocks from my house. It's weird because that's not a bad part of Riverside. Though behind that building is very dark. It seems like a robbery gone wrong or something, because Riverside has no lack of robberies.
This just underscores the fact that Sheriff Rutherford has to get off his arse and do something about the crime in this city.. not just keep harassing speeders for ticket quota. He's done nothing but increase racial tension and public lawlessness. While he says he's added more officers to the force, he has them in all the wrong places. The officers that I know either have absolutely nothing to do most of the day, or are incredibly busy chasing down bums and crack dealers.
I hope Collier heals well. He didn't deserve this. - AshamedAmerican, on 09/03/2008, -3/+13lol not yet man, not yet.
- BowZzer, on 09/03/2008, -8/+16Psh! Welcome to Tuesday.
- TheSabre, on 09/03/2008, -3/+10That's because every other city is overrun by 60-year-old retirees in Hawaiian shirts.
- vsujohn2, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Come on guys respect this man. I knew him very well as he graduated a few years before me from Valdosta State. He's a nice guy and trying to get his life on track and make it in the NFL. Please put your lame comments elsewhere
- cedarbaydave, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5Jacksonville is a very dangerous place. It is the murder capital of Florida. :-(
- nesagwa, on 09/03/2008, -1/+4Lemme guess, youre from the northeast.
- TheLoneHoot, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3***** - Riverside has some very nice homes and people. There are SOME parts of the area I wouldn't visit at night, but otherwise it's fine. The westside and Springfield sections however are another matter.
- ginestony, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Rest in peace in his hospital bed you mean??
- Dou6, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3I would guess that someone followed these guys from the club to rob them. Makes sense if you are criminals. Hang out in an upscale club and look for rich people, follow them, rob them. That, or else these women that they met were involved in some way. Basically they were the setups. "Wait right here, well be right out after we drop off our car..." If I was the police, I would be looking deeply into these women's pasts to see if any other robberies or murders have happened in their company.
- veriix, on 09/03/2008, -3/+6ZOMG!! Do they know who did it?
- RedStateRetard, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Yeah, the Sheriff keeps begging the city for "more cops to help with the recent surge in murders" despite the tight budgets. But when they look at what he wants to with those "new cops". Every one notices he will put most of the cops on traffic abatement, not vice/murder.
No thanks sheriff, go back to campaign fundraising. That is the only thing you seem to do well. - Barackalypse, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4If I had a dollar for every guy "trying to get his life on track" that got himself shot over some dispute or another, I'd be richer than most NFL players.
- Barackalypse, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Yes, and I guessed he was black before I even read the name. Sad how some things never change.
- TheLoneHoot, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2cedarbaydave is right - it actually IS the murder capital of FL. I live in Jacksonville. There's usually at least a murder a day here. It's actually a very serious problem that the police supposedly are trying to deal with, but the city just throws money at the sherrif's office (same thing - consolidated county/city), and JSO doesn't know what to do with it. And don't get me started on the sweetheart deals they give/gave the Jaguars rather than spend money on necessary things...
...regardless I hope Collier makes a full recovery. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2The real question is, when is NOT worth killing someone?
- vypergts, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2When they're on your fantasy team?
- Chahrlie5, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3Professional athlete involved in shooting!?
No way - bobjrn2, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1damn...why does the first digg i've ever seen about my home town have to be about gun-fire.
- drumrave, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1I never deal with JSO and I try to stay away from people that may kill me, so basically i only go to work and stay home and read stuff on digg
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1This story took about as long to get to the front page as it does for Wired to send out new issues full of old Digg stories.
- nbabasketball, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Could have been a robbery gone wrong, or it could have been just a damn drive by. Hope he recovers...anybody who is in the NFL is very talented regardless of the naysayers.
- Hincapie, on 09/03/2008, -2/+3when will this crap stop? its a shame. hope he pulls through.
- Barackalypse, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2These always offer nice counterpoints to anyone claiming violence is related to poverty. Its a cultural thing.
- brettg102, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Digg lags so far behind on sports news it should just be removed entirely from the site or just provide a link to ESPN or something.
- funkyp56, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Isn't today Wednesday?
- r00tus3r, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2What evidence do you have that there was a "dispute"? Sounds like a plane old robbery to me.
- schul155, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1http://www.adn.com/opinion/comment/halcro/story/16 ...
a good link to an original opinion on this around a year ago - royalwcheese, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1That is one of the reasons I moved. Higher crime rate per capita than NYC.
- yournightmare, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1You can't depend on JSO. That's why I (legally) carry my .40 everywhere I go.
- mal278, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Jack Del Rio's comments ftw!
- TheLoneHoot, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1So your first ***** was over the weekend?
- cawpin, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1"critically wounded outside an apartment building early Tuesday"
Can you read? - TheSabre, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1It has my location in my profile. It's not to hard to find it out. :-)
I'm from the mid-atlantic, not quite northeast. - Chahrlie5, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Now that's just stereotyping (although true)
- IronDonut, on 09/03/2008, -2/+2Another Jacksonville shooting? I'm shocked.
- ginestony, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1If only his mother practiced abstinence, she wouldn't have to see her son hurt.... errr.... yeah.
- TheLoneHoot, on 09/03/2008, -4/+4He was a threat to Khalif Barnes' position, and Barnes is a thug... connection?
- Vikaas, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1That's a buzzkill.
- serif69, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1:-I
Looks like you're only as innocent as the company you keep...
B-I
YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! - fedorafandango, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1Seems pretty fitting for Jacksonville.
- turini1, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1is it really worth killing some one over a girl?
- Rudegar, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1but what does apple say about it?
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1hope he recovers
no ho is worth killing somebody over. - drumrave, on 09/03/2008, -0/+0didn't digg have the story about the guy who called the cops cause subway ***** up his sandwich? That was in jacksonville
- BoneheadFarker, on 09/03/2008, -5/+4That depends. What does she look like, and will she sleep with me?
- cedarbaydave, on 09/03/2008, -2/+1Shake and Bake!
...if only she had twins those would be perfect names. (had to bring her into it) - septicmadman, on 09/03/2008, -4/+3Saying it is not the bad part of Riverside is like saying the nice part of Hell.
- DulcetTone, on 09/04/2008, -1/+0This story deftly ignores the bigger issue: Jacksonville should not have an NFL franchise.
