- jasper976, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22and they still won... poor poor oakland
- pyrexia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21So basically the Texans tried to lose but the Raiders wouldn't let them...
- blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14That would be a run.
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+152006 oakland raiders are probably the worst ranked team in raider history. If this doesn't give Al a heart attack, I don't know what will. If I had a dollar for every mistake the offense made, I wouldn't need to play the lotto.
- Mu99ins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12As a Raiders fan for almost 3 decades, I've seen the highs and the lows.
This is the worst season ever. I've seen the renegade owner vilified in
his own home town papers, and have had the patience to listen to those
who were once Raiders fans, and embittered 49er fans too, who believed
everything negative written about him. I've witnessed the feud between
the NFL and Al Davis for most of this time, and have followed the interferance
of the NFL in the business relationships between the Raiders and it's stadium
owners.
And all throughout this time period, I have been sympathetic to Al Davis.
But, there comes a time when a man should retire. Since the beginning of
the end, which was the devastating SuperBowl defeat in the '02/'03 season,
the Raiders have been a losing team. It's not the coaching, although the fans
and the sports writers analyse ad nuaseum about the coaching. However,
it is a fact that the team is made up of enough sub-par players, and above-par
players with bad attitudes, to make the team, a bad team. There is some
excellent talent on the Raiders, but an NFL football team needs a higher
percentage of the that kind of talent to win games.
For a team with one of the lowest revenues in the league to gamble (squander
away) millions of dollars on prima donnas like Porter and Moss, was a glaring
mistake, as this season has shown. Moss has had an incredibly low percentage
of completions, and both Porter and Moss have repeatedly knocked the Raiders
in the press.
Meanwhile, the team has journeymen running backs, and journeymen quarterbacks
at best, and suffers a terrible offensive line. The OL will continue to suffer because
of below par personnel and a merry-go-round of coaches. If the present head
coach Art Shell is allowed to continue coaching, then the OL will undoubtedly
improve, since Shell understands the OL line more than most, but like John Madden
has said, it takes years for an OL to gel. Unfortunately, head coaches take the
brunt of the blame for losing seasons, and Shell will probably be fired at the end
of this season, or the next. But, the root cause of the problems at Oakland is
player acquisition, and the main decision maker in that process is Al Davis.
He should retire. - ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So that's why Andre Johnson didn't get me any fantasy football points....damnit.
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Not unless he was a center and they had the line-of-scrimmage 2 yards past where it should have been.
- dep01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's a testament to their defense.
- jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Carr is actually a good QB. He's really raked up the yards and has been a top ranked QB on several occasions. This game was an oddity in many ways.
- jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Could be worse. Could be "Dildo Faggins." He could be a "Bobbit" in "Lord of the Cockring."...someone stop me!
- donjaime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"...using Demarcus Faggins' 58-yard fumble return for a touchdown"
LOL
his name is 'Faggins' - hammer66x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah, it really is a judgement call, general rule is it is a sack if the QB loses yards on a designed pass play and it's a rush if he gains any yards. Meh, I know it's not the best way to measure anything but without writing a book for the box score you have to try and keep stuff concise.
- ChaserHimself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, me neither. At first my heart skipped a beat thinking he may have been hurt, but then I saw that it was just David Carr sucking.
- sdwilly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Grossman did everything he could to give the game to the Vikings.. Lovely 1.3 QB Rating he had there..
- hammer66x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sacks are considered negative passing yards to properly represent the situation on the field. In this case the penalty goes against the Houston passing offense, rather than against the rushing offense - it provides for a better presentation of what was happening during the game. A kneel in contrast is not a passing play and represents a 'run' without having to be touched by an opposing player to down the ball. (and a spike is just a special passing play).
- diggonit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is the best summary of the game that I have seen. That is exactly what happened. Raider fumbles, Raider kicker hitting the post two times, Raider interception in end zone, Raider penalties at horrible times. Basically the 2006 Raiders showed up. The Texans really tried to lose, they really did. They are trying to get the #1 draft pick again so they can pick up a highly rated water boy.
- Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, I have Andre Johnson as my fantasy Wide Receiver.
- shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone should've drafted Reggie Bush with the first pick of the 2006 NFL Draft.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It doesn't matter if the QB is trying to scramble. The play is a pass, and should be statiscally penalized against the overall passing yards.
- pickle430, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol leave it to our football team to do something like this
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man :(
my team is a laughing stock - shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You probably didn't know that the Raiders have the best defense against the pass, only allowing 143.0 yards per game.
http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/DEF-PASSING/2006/regular?sort_col_1=8 - backwords, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2damn i wonder how kubiak feels having to play their *could've been QB this sunday with Tennessee and Vince Young. it seemed so stupid at the time picking Mario Williams over so many other candidates. their offense doesnt get enough points and their defense allows too many points.
- GoldenGopher1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmmm, that seems way too subjective to me. What if the QB is trying to scramble and still gets tackled behind the line of scrimmage? Is that just some stat trackers judgement call on whether he was trying to run or pass?
I appreciate the response and I can see how it makes sense, but it just seems way too subjective. - blynder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Turnovers will do it every time. It doesn't matter what team your playing if you turn the ball over 5 times you will most likely lose.
- bentl1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I watched the "loser" bowl last night. What a prime example of an ignorant owner (The new "Oilers") who defies the entire city of Houston's desire to have Vince as quarterback.
But he has a history of this: First, they build the worst stadium in the NFL from a fan's standpoint, they double the parking costs, reduce parking and make just getting into the stadium a nightmare, triple the amount of time it takes to get out of the stadium, make a bottle of Bud 8 dollars, lower the food quality while raising prices, ..... there's just too many mistakes to count. But his refusal to dump this "not-even-third-string" guy is sick.
Let's dump this "Texans" nightmare and get back to good football, with a new team, with an owner who actually cares, in the dome, with the original name of the Oilers. There's got to be someone who would be interested. Until then, count me out as a fan. Oh well ..... there's always the Cowboys. - Mu99ins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, c'mon...SeaBass had a bad back. He's young, and his back will
probably be better next week. The Raiders won't win, of course, but,
they will be winning until the 4th quarter, when the bottom will fall out.
Their defense, which is pretty damn good, doesn't have the stamina
to stay on the field for so long a time. It's the OL which is the problem.
Well, most of the problem. The receiving corps has cast iron hands,
and the offensive backs are less than great. But, when the OL finally
gets it's act together (not this year), what looks like below average
receivers and backs will look much better. But, not this year. - bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, Carr had 32 passing yards. The team had -5 passing yards because sacks count against a team's passing stats, but not against the quarterback who was sacked.
- CoolGui, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think Young would be a good choice... Now Bush would have helped a lot, especially since Dominique Davis has been out all year due to a preseason injury... You just can't predict things like that happening at draft time...
The Texans did try to sign bush before the draft, but the rumor is that he wasn't accepting anything close to the millions they were offering. So they passed on him, and by the time he finally signed with New Orleans, they had agreed on less than Houston offered him initially. Is Houston the loser or is it Reggie Bush, or both??? - TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not time yet, they are an expansion team, the browns on the other hand, have been bad for years and years.
- GoldenGopher1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Carr finished 7-of-14 for 32 yards, failing to complete a pass in the final 32 minutes. He was sacked five times for 37 yards, leaving Houston with negative-5 yards passing."
What? Shouldn't that go against rushing yards? When the QB kneels the ball he loses rushing yards. How is this any different? - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3You can fully expect the Bengals to cover at home when the Raiders go to Cincy this week. Even if the Raiders get 13 points, It's a Stone Cold Lock.
Bengals 38
Raiders 6
(That would be Janikowski making 2 of 7 field goal tries) - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2There is a reason that the Raiders always Blackout in the Bay Area: they are unwatchable, unless you are a masochist.
- furdine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What is funniest is the Raiders pass defense had this game, according to the numbers, THE GREATEST PASS DEFENSE OF ALL TIME. And they still lost...
- Mu99ins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@blynder
True. Turnovers are worse than sacks and penalties. Turnovers often
result in scoring because of field position. The point differential is poisonous
to a football team, like offensive rebounds are to a basketball team. More so,
since scoring in football is by percentage of the total points greater than scoring
in basketball. 3 or 7 points (times 2 because of the differential) in a typical 24
point game in football, compared to 2 or 3 points in Basketball (times 2) in a
100 point game in basketball. - tjlsmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Houston is getting better and better.
- Mu99ins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Bengals 20, Raiders 12
- davesphone00, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7Yay! Go Texans. We'll take the win any way we can get it.
- dougm68, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@blobzorz
Thats my point. He'd end up with zero yards passing thus beating carr.
~so many idiots, so little time. - shackbar, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8It's time to put the Texans out of their (and our) misery.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Anything can happen in Football. Look at the Bears' game yesterday. 34 passing yards, 3 interceptions, no TDs for Rex Grossman, and yet the Bears were still victorious. Football is just a crazy ass-fun as hell sport and anything is possible. Go Ravens!!!!
http://www.dpodgor.net - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Such a stupid name.
- dougm68, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2My 7 yr old could throw for more yards if he just handed off to the running back every down. What a joke.
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Reminds of some game I saw awhile ago, where the RB got a game total of 2 rushing yards...
The guy could have just fell down on the ground, and picked up 2 yards. - HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2You're a week late. This week's news: the Titans beat the worst 10-2 team EVER (the Colts).
