- BN89, on 01/15/2009, -0/+11Giants need a star receiver, whether it be in Plaxico or someone else.
- CrucialMatt, on 01/16/2009, -0/+6He's the reason they had the season they did...once he was gone, the team started slipping.
- goldenballs21, on 01/15/2009, -2/+8I think if he smartens up than he can be a great asset.
- Shaggy3, on 01/16/2009, -1/+6Hurts to say it, but he was an asset to the team.
- MakanGuru, on 01/16/2009, -0/+52 words: Future Raider
- WhiZa, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5I can see it now, Plax shoots himself in the leg, and TO starts crying in front of the media about it
- hmmmok, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4Whatever. The Cowboys are cursed either way.
- shauncorleone, on 01/16/2009, -1/+4Suddenly "not sure" is news? Good to know. In other news, I'm not sure I want Macaroni Grill tonight.
- CaptainNoPants, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2They shouldn't bring him back. Let him go to another team, preferably in the AFC. The Giants need to trade for/draft some big talent at WR. Maybe the Texans could be convinced to let go of Andre Johnson for Burress and a 3rd round pick? Hmmm....
- jason210, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2If he gets jail it's a mandatory minimum sentence in NY
- smoothmann, on 01/16/2009, -1/+3Thats ok
My cowboys will pick him up - nastysquar3d, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2From a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and someone who had Plexico on their fantasy football team this year I say let him go. The Steelers did just fine once Plexico left, and the Giants will do the same. They have an excellent running back in Brandon Jacobs and I'm sure they could find a very good receiver.
The receiver they find may not be as talented or athletic as Plex but at least they could try and find someone who shows up for practice, doesn't get suspended all the time and isn't in trouble with the law. A player with a good attitude and good skills at WR is much better than a player with a terrible attitude and great skills.
He's a ***** bum who thinks he's owed something. - HeDiggMe, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Future Cowboy. He'll replace TO
- Midtowner, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Coming from a state where it's perfectly legal (if you buy a permit) to walk around with a concealed weapon, I just can't fathom having to look at over a decade of jail time simply for possessing one. Also, if I was an NFL player and had a lot of nefarious sorts in my past, I might feel safer with a concealed weapon (Sean Taylor might still be alive had he carried).
The insurance issue should be a non-issue for Coughlin. Burress can afford to pay whatever it costs to make that right. He might regret not making an insurance payment once he's done cutting checks, but it's no big ass deal. - ScottoGato, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Even Dallas isn't big enough for Plax AND TO.
- WhiZa, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Dugg for truth
- Shaggy3, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1I definitely agree not to bring him back. As a Steelers fan, I was glad when he left Pittsburgh.
- jason210, on 01/18/2009, -0/+13 good running backs. bradshaw was the leading rushier in the playoffs last year.
- jason210, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1bradshaw is the best of the 3. hes just a ***** like burress. which is why hes third string.
- Jerky1312, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1I agree he was a valuable player and they suffered partly because of it, but there were other factors in them losing as well. Jacobs was nicked up in the game against the Eagles and they lost to the Vikings because they took all the starters out. Burress was suspended for one game and missed another due to a hamstring injury I believe during the season and they won both games. They lost to the Eagles in the playoffs, because of piss poor coaching. They gave the ball to Jacobs only 19 times and they didn't rush him straight up the middle. They instead made him run outside, which is not his game and it plays into the hands of the speedy Eagles defense. Two missed field goals didn't help the situation either. The Giants could have easily made it to the Superbowl without Burress. He wasn't the main reason they lost 4 out of 5. Also, Antonio Pierce was not the same after the incident either. Tuck was also banged up the last few weeks. It was a culmination of things, but I'll agree missing Burress was the biggest factor, but there were quite a few others.
- hmmmok, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Cool, 1 down, 44 to go.
- Jerky1312, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1He's partly to blame for the Giants being out of the playoffs right now. I thought they could still pull it off without him, but of course they missed him. That said, I don't want him back even though they might need him. You don't want these type of guys on your team, who can potentially ruin your season with stupidity. Not only did he get himself suspended, he pretty much ruined the play of Antonio Pierce, who was not the same after the incident. Don't reward this idiot and bring him back.
On the local radio station, I heard quite a few people state how they got kicked out of the playoffs because we didn't have him available to play and how we need to bring him back next year. If that is your mentality, why in the world would you want that kind of player back on your team? Those are the worst players to have on your team and they would be extremely hypocritical to bring him back, after they got rid of Shockey last year, because his behavior was detrimental to the team. You know what? Burress' behavior was pretty detrimental as well. - YoungLiar, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1they need to trade either ward or bradshaw with a draft pick to get high enough to draft CRABTREE, who is nastyyyyy
- Jerky1312, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Jacobs and Ward are both free agents, they can't be traded. They will probably sign Jacobs and let Ward go, but they will probably keep Bradshaw in there as the backup. Bradshaw is pretty good running back and they need one, because Jacobs tends to get injured, due to everyone making tackles on his knees.
- apastafarian, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1The team is playing this the right way image wise, but they're leaving a door open that can't be stepped through. Burris is looking at a almost guaranteed jail sentence, I think he'll serve 6m-1y and at least a one season league suspension on top of that. It's also assumed that the league will void his contract, allowing the Giants to look like the good guys to all their players. Coughlin can play the tough guy, Reese the nice guy and it all doesn't matter. AS for it being appropriate for him to carry a weapon, he didn't have a NY or NJ permit and as far as I know, carrying a gun is a violation of his contract. If he felt threatend, it's been shown that the league and/or the team would have provided him bodyguards at his request. My opinion(!!) is the Giants will go after a premier reliever through free agent, trade or if nothing else is available draft this off season and Burris will rejoin the league in 2011 as a Cowboy, Raider or Bengal.
- ScottoGato, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1No one has to respect the deep threat with any of the other WRs. Toomer and Smith are possession receivers that take anything underneath that is left over after Plax takes the safety off.
- Jerky1312, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Burress drawing double coverages for most of the year was a major factor in the Giants being the best rushing team in the NFL. Two very good running backs and solid offensive lines were also factors, but Burress' numbers were down because of constant double coverage.
- ScottoGato, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1It'll be tough picking one up now without paying major dollars and/or draft picks. The whole NFC East is either trying to pickup a star WR, or trying to sign one to block the other NFC East teams from getting one.
I think every NFC East team was in the hunt to pick up Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Ocho Cinco before the season started. No one really got their guy, so I'm sure it'll be same this off-season with some more names in the mix. - Redrevolver19, on 01/21/2009, -0/+0I can totally see Plaxico in Oakland.
This is how I see it playing out...
[Al Davis Hiding in the Bushes Out Front Of Plaixico's Mansion]
Al Davis: Pst! pst! Hey!... Hey!... Plaxico! You Want A 6 Year 80M Dollar Contract?
Plaxico Burris: Boy Howdy! Do I Ever! - catpuke, on 01/16/2009, -0/+0yes. yes.. he would be a great asset. can it be done?
- MeatMountain, on 01/16/2009, -1/+1Yeah they sure did good without him.... NOT!
- cowboy86, on 01/16/2009, -2/+1 The Giants can't really win without him.
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -3/+1Burress is a gangsta wannabe ***** who didn't do ***** this season except for the first couple of games. If the Giants can use Burress's felony to void his contract they should do it in a heartbeat. God knows the Cowboys will pick him up.
- ertdubs, on 01/15/2009, -4/+0He's probably just afraid of being shot in the leg
