- quomen, on 05/29/2009, -4/+41I thought Brett was a gritty and humble guy, but the past couple seasons have shown me that he seeks vanity as much as A-Rod.
My respect for him is gone. - sprNmgcHlmt, on 05/29/2009, -6/+31he's exactly right.
- EnterReality, on 05/28/2009, -3/+18Favre on the vikings would sell a lot of tickets and a lot of jerseys.
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -1/+15THATS INCREDIBLE!
- apec766, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9Jets. He went to the JETS.
- apec766, on 05/29/2009, -0/+9Anyone who honestly blames Green Bay's trouble on Aaron Rodgers has 0 credibility in the judgement of talent. That team was, arguably, the single best sub-.500 team in history.
Favre (2007, final year in GB):
356/545 passing (66.5%), 4155 yards, 7.8 yds/per, 28 TD, 15 INT, QB rating of 95.7
Team went 13-3
Rodgers (2008, first year starting):
341/536 passing (63.6%), 4038 yards, 7.5 yds/per, 28 TD, 13 INT, QB rating of 93.8
Team went 6-10
Rodgers stats were near IDENTICAL to those of Favre's previous year. Throwing 2 fewer INTs in nearly the same number of attempts. Now, lets check the defensive stats for these 2 years.
2007:
313.3 yds/per, 18.2 pts/g
2008:
334.3 yds/per, 23.8 pts/g
Please also note that 7/10 losses last season were decided by single digits. That means that the team was 1 defensive stop or 1 more offensive possession away in 7 games from being a legitimate playoff contender.
The team's misfortune was more than likely decided by fluke than by any major slump. Even the "defensive weakpoint" argument only goes so far.
What will tell is next season, with Rodgers having a year of starting under his belt, and a potentially revamped defense. - mshensley, on 05/29/2009, -0/+8His stats were better than Favre's last year. Their problem was on defense and their hobbled running game.
- dse78759, on 05/29/2009, -0/+7....and Brett Favre is going to give you 'solid QB' play?
This from a 12 year packer fan. The last 6 trips to the playoffs with Brett at the helm ended with his bonehead mistakes ( Ryan Grant got us past the Seahawks last year, not Favre).
If this happens, I have a feeling Vikings fans are going to be wildly disappointed. - robEstyles, on 05/29/2009, -4/+11Is his recent actions selfish? Yes. But I don't think Brett himself really sees it that way. I think hes just a guy that just can't walk away from what he's done his entire life. He's not doing this to stay in the limelight or to be talked about he just can't grasp the fact that it is finally over and he wants to prolong it as long as possible.
- inactive, on 05/29/2009, -1/+7I dont even know who they are, but i hope he said that in a Daffy duck voice.
- cyoder, on 05/29/2009, -0/+6And his name is FAVRE.
- Airbear007, on 05/29/2009, -0/+6Wow idk what i was thinking when i wrote that. i wish i could dig my self down for that post. yes he went to the jets not the eagles and i also miss spelled his name. wow im retarded haha sorry
- jcaino, on 05/29/2009, -1/+6I was pretty much expecting this to be an Onion article, but am so glad it is not. Favre, you're retired. Stay retired. Unless you want to be classy like Mario Lemieux was and come out of retirement and play for the same team, without being a jackass about it. But it's a little late for that.
- dse78759, on 05/29/2009, -1/+6Oh man, NO ONE on this board is going to get that. You just dated yourself big time. And I guess I just did too.
- wesleyzero, on 05/29/2009, -0/+5Who is this Fran Tarkenton? She sounds delightable.
/Packers fan
/Sick of Favre's ***** as well - dse78759, on 05/29/2009, -0/+5You discarded Pennington, and he took another girl to the dance.
You got what you deserved. - Rev0lver, on 05/29/2009, -4/+9So Brett Favre is a raging douchebag...but that's all okay because he has more Super Bowl rings?
Hooray logic! - joerod, on 05/29/2009, -2/+6I like Brett i think he was a excellent football player with the Packers, but the stunts he's pulling is really starting to hurt his image. Just retire so everyone will remember all the good that you've done, not all the drama that you've caused. I mean he'd only be with the Vikings for one season, and he won't win a Super Bowl.
- mpalmeire, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4I bet you that this time last year, you were running out to the store buying the newest Favre jersey screaming "F*CK YOU GREEN BAY WE GOT BRETT NOW...J-E-T-S..."
Well, if Pennington couldn't do it, and Favre couldn't do it...maybe you guys just plain old suck. - Paal, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5Don't be too sure of that. I used to live in the Twin Cities, and I don't know a single Vikings fan that wants Favre in the purple jersey.
- Happysin, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5I used to work for Fran. He's generally a pretty affable guy, but he also doesn't hesitate to call you on ***** if he thinks he needs to. I think he's mostly right in this situation, except that I think Favre really thought he was going to retire, and then didn't know what to do with himself.
- gttim, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4That was back in the day when you had to get up, walk to the TV and turn the big nob to change the channel! Uphill both ways!
- Rev0lver, on 05/29/2009, -3/+7http://cartoons-comics.deepthi.com/images/DaffyDuc ...
But yes, he's absolutely right. - Kannebas, on 05/29/2009, -0/+4Well, it would've been a little awkward for the owner of the team to come out of retirement and play for a different team. Awkward AND hilarious...
- MNEVENFLOW, on 05/29/2009, -1/+5Living east of the river you must have been hitting the paint thinner pretty hard...
Kramer's last year in the NFL was 1990 with New Orleans.
Favre's first year in the NFL was 1991 with Atlanta. - toddc612, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Perfect example of a Jets fan..
- seanayb, on 05/29/2009, -1/+4Favre IS the embodiment of what is wrong with pro football nowadays. I can't believe I'm saying it...
/depressed, disappointed Packer fan - Jackson0909, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Are you kidding me. Rodgers did an excellent job last year given the circumstances. Hell, if the Packers defense could keep teams under 30 points a game, they would have been in good position to make the playoffs.
- vofuse, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3If Favre had just retired from Green Bay and kept his mouth shut, he would have been a god in Wisconsin, with a very successful business career there and maybe even the possibility of a great political career. But all he seems to know or care about is football, which I guess is why retiring from the game turned out to be such a huge ordeal for him.
- LopezElGuapo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Some of us do. Cathy Lee Crosby and John Davidson, right?
- Eternyl, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3There is this IT Manager Bob at my work that retired last year, and now he might want work again.....of course we won't take him back, because we got Steve now, who took over his position....plus Bob's kinda old.....so now he might work for a competitor, I don't know he thinks he's somewhat competent.....seriously, what a whiny whiny bitch.....we used to be good friends and had great times, but he's such a low life now...despicable....shoulda stayed retired.
- apec766, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3ZING
- sousademiami, on 05/29/2009, -2/+5You're missing the point. Brett said he was retiring, the Packers got a new QB, gave him the job. Then Brett wants to come back, but the job's taken, so he whines and insults them for not firing the new guy. Then he goes on some personal vendetta against them for acting in response to HIS decision in the first place.
Brett Favre is a tool. - tevetorbes, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3Yeah Brett Favre has been coming off as a real jerk in the last few years, but really, Fran Tarkenton? Pot meet kettle?
You suck Fran, and you ramble in the article like you're drunk. I'll get on board with the sentiment (go somewhere and die already Favre) but please, anybody who thinks Fran Tarkenton is worth listening to needs a reality check. - inactive, on 05/29/2009, -1/+4Fran Tarkenton - honestly, the worst name ever
- Zaij, on 05/29/2009, -9/+12I'm from Australia and have no ***** idea what you guys are on about.
I love digg. - GilThielander, on 05/29/2009, -0/+3After watching Favre march down the field at will against the Vikings countless times, I welcome him. It still is not Minnesota's answer to a quarterback, but it might get us to the Super Bowl. It would be nice to see the Vikings at least participate in the Super Bowl sometime in my lifetime. Winning, now that's another story.
- cyoder, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Sounds like Drew's still bitter about Super Bowl XXXI.
- bigteebo, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2The Jets haven't been the same since Flash Gordon left.
- Ablerank, on 05/29/2009, -2/+4Fran Tarkenton... the new Daffy Duck. "You're DITHHHHSPICABLE!"
- nathanbutnet, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2More people need to say this. I make a point to avoid any mention, video or story about Favre these days because he is such a ***** attention hound but in this case I am making an exception.
- apec766, on 05/29/2009, -2/+4The fact that he was a franchise player who was going to have his jersey retired, only to desire to come back to the game over and over and over (which, honestly, we had no problem with), but then insulting the team who helped to build your legacy because you aren't guaranteed a job because you "retired" is the issue we take with it.
THAT is why Brett Favre is a raging douchebag. - acknotSW, on 05/29/2009, -1/+3I will always be huge fan of his football career, but I've been disapointed in the man himself these last few years. It seems like he believes the game and the fans owe him something.
- badgerfight, on 06/01/2009, -0/+2mistaaaaaake
- CleoQKazoo, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2sufferin sucatash
- robbob, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Farve should follow in Fran's footsteps and host a variety show
- vbullinger, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2I'm a massive Vikings fan and I despise the Packers.
Brett Favre is the best NFL player ever. I'd love to have a 40-year old Brett Favre on our team.
I've said for many years, if Favre played for us, our players would have a ring on each finger.
Brett Favre in a wheelchair is better than Tarvaris Jackson. I'm anxious to see what Rosenfels can do, but I'm not exactly sold on him. - JackGrinnan, on 06/01/2009, -0/+22nd Worst. First place is Taylor Stark. Fag.
- Jooze, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2Vick on the Vikings would sell more, Peterson and Vick? As far as entertainment goes, Vick is fun to watch, and Peterson is a beast. I'm from Atlanta and I don't like Vick as a person, but that combo would be insane.
- nathanbutnet, on 05/29/2009, -0/+2I like allegories.
