- FreddyCohen, on 02/04/2008, -4/+3They have come a long way, but it is almost too much. Let the game play out, and do not innundate me with stats and choppy telecasts.
- Daniel591992, on 02/04/2008, -0/+12Digg read my mind. I was just gonna ask how the yellow line works.
- bryceman111, on 02/04/2008, -0/+11Don't they just quickly repaint it every down?
- jasonsalas, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3Yeah...I work in the TV biz and my co-workers and I argue all the time about the yellow line and how it works.
- bxblox, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1haha i only clicked this article to talk about the yellow line. I think its magic.
- CuddyBuddy, on 02/04/2008, -4/+2Exceptional...however, I'd prefer sports in which there is more of human than of technology...if there are lots of umpiring errors and such, let there be...sports are supposed to be about human strength and fallibility...why bring machines into the picture?
- Sharky35, on 02/04/2008, -6/+1My HD TV kept skitzing out... Like when a satellite dish is out of alignment.
- asdfuiop, on 02/04/2008, -5/+5Dugg for using Linux on the QB-Cams =)
- aintIill, on 02/04/2008, -7/+0how is this story at the top of the popular page with only 95 diggs? something smells fishy.
- sonicularulus, on 02/04/2008, -3/+4amazing stuff. Being a video editor and event (weddings, birthdays, etc), knowing these things are quite mind boggling to me. So many cameras and such a large crew to broadcast the game.
makes my 2 camera set up for an wedding quite cheap. - Firehed, on 02/04/2008, -1/+2Anyone else wince when they saw some giant man with a football almost trample tens of thousands of dollars of glass? You can put all the technology in the world into making that magical yellow line (and it is quite intriguing) but it doesn't do a whole lot of good when you end up with a football stuck in your camera.
- axis, on 02/04/2008, -2/+6You know what I noticed about this Superbowl? That I recorded 30 minutes of the game, I started at 3:00PM as that is when the guide and everyone else said it started, and I still only made it to the start of the 4th quarter before it was live. They had a commercial break every god damn second they could and that is extremely annoying. The commercials I did watch were horrible and all I wanted to do was WATCH the Super Bowl. A great game was tainted by the greedy bastards at Fox, pushing Myspace.com/Superbowlads in my face. How about Fox donate some of the millions they got to some needy causes, since they were so noble during the pregame for the soldiers and their sacrifices? Talk about some PR *****.
- Snakedal337, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3I thought the foxbot batting the terminator was clever. /sarcasm
I hope fox never gets to air the superbowl again, half the time I couldn't see what was going on because some stupid overlay advertisement was leaping up and down/glowing/blowing up in the corner - lobofanina, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Have you been in coma for the past 20 years? What you watched is what the Super Bowl has become in modern times. Nothing was unusual about how that game was marketed, shown, or full of advertisements. CBS, NBC, FOX , or ABC all produce pretty much the same Super Bowl.
- Snakedal337, on 02/04/2008, -1/+3I thought the foxbot batting the terminator was clever. /sarcasm
- DonJohnTom, on 02/04/2008, -0/+10one day that cable cam is gonna get nailed by a football
- TheMidnight, on 02/04/2008, -2/+2Here's a video documenting how they get that yellow line on the field: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpTw3GZU0Zw
- jasonsalas, on 02/04/2008, -2/+1Here's a cool podcast about the yellow-line effect: http://www.thedvshow.com/podcasts/2007/02/dv-show- ...
- Proctor, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2And it's all nothing without a HDTV.
- Barr08, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3t
- neocognitism, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4Don't believe this propaganda!
There was no Superbowl -- it was faked! They used the same technology that they used to fake the moonlanding.
You have been warned! - withoutashovel, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1That is pure overkill, considering I never got to see the "Matrix-Cam" go into action once. They only ever used around 10 cams the whole game, and the only time those 80+ microphones came into use were during the 2 helmet crunches I heard the whole game. Besides, half the screen was always filled with HD-quality ads.
- avn128, on 02/04/2008, -1/+0EyeVision "Matrix-Cam" was not used at the SuperBowl XLII becuase it is a CBS only technology.
- teambosun, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1I've been wondering how the yellow-line was generated for years. My guess was pretty close, but it's good to see it confirmed.
Amazing. - icndvl, on 02/04/2008, -1/+0.
- Error601, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2I always wondered if the ball has ever hit that cablecam. Is it then considered still in play?
- Jerky1312, on 02/05/2008, -0/+1Isn't it always behind the quarterback and follows the play, instead of backtracking on the play?
