- kenedamick, on 07/23/2008, -2/+17What the Buc?
- FlaG8r, on 07/24/2008, -0/+13I feel bad for Aaron Rodgers. He was almost the first pick in the draft and could have played for a home-state team. Instead the Niners took Alex Smith (great move!) and Rodgers fell all the way to Green Bay.
Every year he's been a pro Favre has teased him by almost retiring. Now this year Favre has put him in a situation where any little mistake he makes is going to bring boos from the home fans who think Favre would have done better. - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -2/+12Oh Favre, I am going to be so sad this year!!
- pennvneff, on 07/24/2008, -4/+13I'm am so sick of this guy, if this was any other QB the sports media would have crucified him already for the way he's behaved.
- CLAWC, on 07/23/2008, -1/+9Quite the climate change
- vegx, on 07/24/2008, -0/+8Favre is now going to join the other greats who regrettably spent a year or two at the end of their career on a different team.
Remember Joe Montana the Chief? Neither do I. - rickyroca, on 07/23/2008, -3/+10Bucn' A!
- vegx, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6The 8-8 Vikings are a passing game away from being a Super Bowl contender.
They've got a stellar running game and offensive line, and a great defense that only improved this offseason by signing Jared Allen.
You're not going to win a Super Bowl with Tarvaris Jackson as your QB. The 2000 Ravens proved you could win it with a subpar QB, but the Vikings defense is definitely not at that level. - paraforce, on 07/24/2008, -1/+6What the ***** is he doing?
If you're going to blow the end of your career with a different team, might as well come down to Chicago and really piss off your fans. - JeremyK684, on 07/24/2008, -5/+10Fking retire already.. Jeeze... I respected you.. until now.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Or Willie Mays as a Met.
Or Thurman Thomas as a Dolphin.
Or Emmitt Smith as a Cardinal. - noots, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4i get the impression he is loyal, but green bay essentially forced him to look elsewhere.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Its Michael Jordan all over again.
- phineasgage, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6This would suck. I really feel for Green Bay fans who have a right to be heart-broken about this. Imagine loving the Packers—and Favre—for years and now having this be his last season.
It's like your parents getting divorced and you have to choose who to spend holidays with. The fans are the victims! - FlaG8r, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Did you just call the 8-8 Vikings a Super Bowl contender?
- maddendude, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3It would make most sense for Favre to go to either Tampa or Minnesota. Both have offensive systems very similar to what he ran in Green Bay. In Tampa, Gruden loves veteren quarterbacks, and Minnesota is a division rival of the Packers. Maybe thats where the hunch comes from. Either way, its just a hunch, everyone has a hunch, but unless its based on some hard evidence, its foolish to make anything out of it.
- bizsumpark182, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3People seem to be forgetting that just last week Farve was quoted to say that he didn't really want to goto Tampa Bay that he wanted to go somewhere that had cold weather.
- IzMan2008, on 07/24/2008, -4/+7I think the fans are ready to move on. Time to see what Rodgers is all about. Good luck Favre.
- rockstar1o9, on 07/24/2008, -2/+5uh didn't you hear about how he wanted to unretire in March and the Packers were ready to fly down with a contract, then he called and said, "nevermind?" when you're responsible for an nfl franchise, a business if you will, that generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year, you can't let the whims of 1 guy jerk you around like that, at least not this late in the game when teams are getting ready to report to camp. and it's not like the Packers didn't give him a chance to come back. but it was FAVRE who decided not to and FAVRE who announced his retirement after last season.
- pennvneff, on 07/24/2008, -1/+4It's funny how most many people just deify this guy. I don't think I've ever seen so many so called hetrosexual men who are so gay for Favre. The man can do no wrong in their eyes.
- pdizz, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3"Packers were ready to fly down with a contract, then he called and said, "nevermind?""
not only that but the Packers made draft picks and other pre-season moves based around Brett Favre being retired. It's not just Aaron Rogers that they've committed to but the new direction of their franchise. There is also a lot of importance placed on honoring commitments in the NFL such as the commitment to Aaron Rogers. His wanting to come back causes ripples throughout the organization - otto989, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3I moved to milwaukee a year ago from Texas and even in that short time and after only experiencing one season watching the Packers, it's easy to tell that wisconsinites hold Favre in high regard and many really do see him as a hero. it would be devastating to have him play for another team after such a long time (he started in every. single. game. that's over 270 games counting post season). the greatest quarterback of all time can do whatever the hell he wants, but changing teams is no way to repay fans that have shown loyalty and passion for sixteen years. (every seat in Lambeau Field has been sold out since 1960) that's a long time. im not kidding when i say that to many wisconsinites, the Packers without Favre is just unimaginable. he's adding insult to injury when people tearfully wish him well in his well deserved retirement, only to have him play for an opposing team. that's like your wife being faithful for years, saying she's too old for sex now, and the next week she's sleeping with your neighbor. that's just not right.
he's built his legend and broken almost every record a quarterback can as a Packer. 442 touchdown passes, over 60,000 passing yards, over 5,300 completions. Brett, do you really want to go out as anything other than a Packer? - greanbean, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3boo! hmmm that sounds much better in a stadium.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/24/2008, -4/+6I'm not a Packers fan...just a fan of the NFL and i have to say....
Why in hell would the Packers choose Aaron "i've held a clipboard my entire career" Rogers over one of the Greatest Quarterbacks in the history of the game who's coming off one of his most productive seasons!?!
Ok so he said he retired, so what. He's in the Pantheon of great QBs.....you'd think they'd beg him to play as long as he could. He's not some average player you can just replace. He's a living legend. A franchise gets a shot at a guy like that once or twice in their entire history at best. Doesn't make much sense to me. - inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Good point. He's no different than Chad Johnson...except Chad has only threatened to leave one year, Favre has for how many seasons?
- louiebaur, on 07/24/2008, -3/+5What a buckin idiot!
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/24/2008, -3/+4he's been all about holding clipboards so far.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -3/+4Don't forget the NFL record 288 interceptions.
- kpaphysicist, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Bad choice. He should have picked a team with a better O-Line.
- Kannebas, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, we all know Brett Favre's a legend. The year he retires + five = hall of fame, but it's SO obvious now that the Atlanta Falcons shouldn't have traded Favre for Tony Smith back in '93...
- doople, on 07/24/2008, -3/+4One of the things I loved about Farve was team loyalty. Hate to see that go.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2And being tutored by one of the best QBs of all time. Yeah, he's automatically a bust if you say so.
- supertones, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1The NFL needs all the good QB's it can get. Look at the NFC north, with two Superbowl contenders in the Vikings and the Packers, with potentially terrible QB's. If there were more good QB's in the league, there would be a definite swing in power, especially in the NFC.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2How can you even call Aaron Rogers a potentially terrible QB? He could also be the best QB in the league, you don't know.
In fact, holding the clipboard for one of the best of all time, it's more likely that he'll be above average than an absolute failure (barring injuries). - allnone, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2John Madden is somewhere crying right now.
- smacksaw, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1COUGHMINNESOTAISINDOORSANDITSONLYCOLDTOANDFROMYOURCARBEFOREANDAFTERTHEGAMECOUGH
- theragu40, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1They forced him to look elsewhere after he forced them into a really tough situation by waffling back and forth and not giving them a straight answer when they needed it. He wanted to be able to leave the decision until training camp, which is just ridiculous.
- Protoman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1So is he the best Quarterback the league has going?
- smacksaw, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1LOL, says you!
- Grumby24, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1The Packers will never voluntarily trade him to Minnesota. That makes no sense. They play each other twice a year and Minnesota would have the overwhelming advantage. It would be very difficult for Green Bay to win the division to make it to the playoffs.
- petebot, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Daaaaaa Bears.
- NeoCortex, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2Or Michael Jordan as number 45?
- petebot, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarterback
- smacksaw, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1Great post. Too bad it god dugg down by some myopian.
- Kannebas, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1Talk about makin' that Madden cover look awkward... HE'S DOOMED! DOOMED, I TELL YA! DOOMED!
- aceking4u, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0Yeah but look at Montana's statistic at his last season with the 49ers, Brett Favre was #2 in the NFL in completion percentage. 28TDS and 14INT not a fluke along with 13 wins and one step away from the superbowl. You can't compare the two QB. Favre is still playing at his best.
- squeevey, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2Minnesota wouldn't take him.
- WIscoRiver, on 07/29/2008, -0/+0whaaaaaat? Heres the real solution to the favre problem:
http://www.madisonmagazine.com/article.php?section ... - Verugan, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0Why shouldn't he? It's the same thing Montana did when he left SF for the Chiefs. Get paid to mentor a noob.
