- catchbigd22, on 04/04/2009, -2/+55Dawkins, once again proving to be one of the most stand up guys in all of football.
- enthreeoh, on 04/04/2009, -1/+30Sometimes I really ***** hate the Eagles front office.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -5/+29he posted the following message: "Dan is [expletive] devastated about Dawkins signing with Denver ... Dam Eagles R Retarted!!"
they probably fired him because hes a moron.. ***** he cant even spell retarded right - ccfccp, on 04/04/2009, -2/+22They fired him over the phone? How chicken *****!
- TheCaptainJS, on 04/04/2009, -7/+24Tickets? OH WOW....
Now if he had gotten him a job... then maybe id be impressed. - deviouskoopa, on 04/04/2009, -0/+17or "are"
- Raynjamin, on 04/04/2009, -2/+15Getting fired over a facebook status like this is kind of scary. What next, someone gets fired just for getting frustrated? For something said among friends? Everyone says stupid things and it doesn't seem to me like facebook is an inappropriate place to vent.
- NoamChimpsky, on 04/04/2009, -2/+14he's
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 04/04/2009, -0/+11It's the off season, he probably isn't doing anything until the pre-season starts. Personally I'd rather be fired over the phone then have them call me up, tell me to drive in and fire me in person.
- snappleman, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9Or damn...
- richid, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9Man...I'm really going to miss seeing Dawkins in Eagles green. His passion and love of the game are unquestionable and he is a great addition to any club.
- Guitarist970, on 04/04/2009, -1/+8Ya, this really isn't a violation of 1st Amendment rights. You have the right to free speech, but you must also be held responsible for the things you say or post on the internet. Basically if you wouldn't say it to your boss's face...don't put it on the internet, it will get back to them.
- jankind, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6You Broncos fans are soon going to see what kind of guy he is. Brian Dawkins is a class act and he'll be one of your favorite players within weeks. Off the field he is like a soft spoken choir singer. On the field...he is like a rabid animal. An angry one. You guys are gonna love him.
-Eagles fan - maynardw, on 04/04/2009, -0/+6Though I'm a Dallas fan, he's probably on of the best examples of awesome that there is in sports. I have a lot of respect for him.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+5Thanks for the valuable contribution.
- DefenceMinister, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5I'm tired of people getting fired over non-work related issues, that shouldn't be allowed.
- gfxlonghorn, on 04/04/2009, -2/+6If you work for an organization, and you say the people who work there are retarded in a public fashion, then they should have the right to fire you. Your an employee making public statements about your employer which is pretty stupid to begin with if they are not good. Your protected by the first amendment from prosecution, but that doesn't protect you from being fired. It's along the same lines as a Best Buy employee telling people that Best Buy sucks so buy all your electronics from Fry's. There is nothing illegal about him saying that, but Best Buy can do whatever they want with that.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4they could have fired him via Twitter
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+4well..obviously this guy did not make his private since the team saw it!
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+3please tell me where you have the expectation of privacy for ANYTHING you post online. Unless you keep it completely to yourself, it can get out. All it takes is one friend to repeat it and it is now public.
- vspazv, on 04/04/2009, -4/+7He's an Eagles fan. What do you expect?
- SlyT862, on 04/04/2009, -0/+3Agreed. For better or for worse, the city loves his kind of passion. In recent history we've seen some decent players with real Philadelphia personality (Aaron Rowand, Jeff Garcia) and we've seen some great players without that passionate personality (Donovan McNabb, Eric Lindros).
Dawkins is the Philly athlete in my lifetime that was great, in addition to having a persona that Philadelphia can just embrace. (Although Utley is pretty close...) - marinLETOILE, on 04/04/2009, -3/+6I got fired last week for posting on my work's Facebook fan page that it smelled like diapers.
- russizm, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2More importantly, Denver is going to be playing @ Philly this year?!
We Philly fans have a bad rep, and for good reason, but I'm excited to see the appreciation that we'll show Dawkins when he comes back. - Raynjamin, on 04/04/2009, -1/+3You can make facebook private enough that it is just among a group of friends. That's not really public. It's not the same.
- VinnieDaMac, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2Gonna have to delete my facebook/myspace when I start looking for a job.
- artfiend77, on 04/04/2009, -1/+3So why don't you help the kid out? Then *maybe* we'd be impressed.
- meganbdeel, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3What were they doing checking his facebook status anyways?? Seriously..get a life. It's FACEBOOK for crying out loud. Since when is it a crime to voice your opinions and thoughts on it? What a ridiculous situation..
- Wiggletits, on 04/04/2009, -1/+2Nice to know that my personal life, thoughts, and emotions off duty reflects on my bosses feelings for me...and those feelings are fragile
- LuCiFer6, on 04/04/2009, -1/+2I agree with the both of you. What were the Eagles thinking when they decided not to sign him?
- Jpardue, on 04/04/2009, -1/+2Only two tickets? It a shame people get fired from their jobs for being a fan, and having an opinion but people like Jay Cutler can piss and moan all he wants because his feelings were hurt and get what he wants.... Sad world we live in, give this man a bailout!
Hmm... I wonder if i make Vince Young a facebook page and says "Vince is ***** devistated... Titans are retarded for signing Kerry Collins!" Would that get get Vince fired? Guess its worth a shot!! - okitasan, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1That's silly.
- 89vision, on 04/04/2009, -1/+2wow that makes up for it
- In2HD, on 08/18/2009, -0/+1Amaziing how Eagles you can get fired for a few tickets ..But if you mass torture and kill dogs , get a stay federal prision , get convited via major drug bust., lie to previous employer NFL team management , have all sorts of criminal convictions , you get a munti million dollar contract and National stardom as eagle star Quarterback ???? Wow...
The " Eagles" as moral as Micahael Vick :) - chewie088, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1I've read the status update and I don't see anything that would grant him being fired. What the ***** kind of politically correct world is this?
- Natru3al, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1But you have to take it in context. He was upset and made a knee jerk emotional statement. It wasn't actually like he really meant it obviously he works there. A lot of people were upset by Dawkins leaving the best thing the Eagles front office should have done was just ignore it. Now they only hurt themselves by bringing attention to it. This is the Eagles front office slogan: Saving face but loosing ass.
This is from an Eagles fan and no I'm not an employee. - gfxlonghorn, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1If he hadn't said " they are retarted" for doing it, then it would be been ok, but they made a direct attack on the Eagles organization.
- inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1i would love to have some insight on your political preference to see he is better than ron paul
- Spire3660, on 04/04/2009, -1/+1If it was a player that did that, all they would have to do is apologize, maybe not even that. But mere mortals get fired for the most innocent of things.
- artfiend77, on 04/04/2009, -1/+1Can you do better?
- x94blair3, on 04/04/2009, -1/+1ooh...I'm sure those tickets will go a long way toward making up for being unemployed. On the other hand, Dawkins really didn't really have to do anything. Since you know...openly criticizing your employer and demonstrating an inability to spell is pretty much 100% your responsibility to manage.
- dgonzals, on 04/08/2009, -0/+0Wow....
- UMgoRebs09, on 04/22/2009, -0/+0This isn't the first time I've seen or heard of someone being fired over their Facebook status or news feed. I think this is ridicules. I understand that companies want their employees to love the company they work for, but why are we all of a sudden not allowed to have opinions? Most of us HATE the companies we work for, however, if we do our work and do it well, what does it matter?
I think the world is taking social networking tools to a much more serious level than they were ever intended. With this in mind, we need to be much more careful about what we put about ourselves online.
Best of luck to everyone. - catchbigd22, on 04/05/2009, -1/+1That's just the way the Eagles are. And the worst part about it, is that they are almost always right letting older guys go. Jeremiah Trotter, Hugh Douglas, sure neither were Dawkins but I have some faith in the organization.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -1/+1Are you ***** kidding me?
He should go work for Denver. - yacks, on 04/05/2009, -1/+1diapers actually smell pretty nice.......if unused.. ;)
- BridgeBurner, on 04/04/2009, -4/+3I don't get it. Why was he fired? Because he said the Eagles were tards? If I say the Eagles are tards and I going to get fired too? Yeah for Amendment numero uno. NFL is so lame...
- Wiggletits, on 04/04/2009, -2/+1its an invasion of privacy is what it is...even if it is semi public...your circle of friends has to be close
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -6/+5Posting something in public for all the world to see is not inappropritate?
Suppose instead of that, you "vented" right outside your office building, screaming to everyone who walked by about how your company sucked. -
