- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -2/+76Give the guy a break. I mean, Michael Vick didn't know you couldn't dog fight.
- daivos, on 11/18/2008, -4/+78Why is no one blaming Andy Reid? Even if he assumed McNabb knew that overtime could end in a tie, isn't it the coaches job to remind his leader, 'Hey, we want to get aggressive on this next series. There's less than 5:00 to go. We don't want this thing to end in a tie.'?
- Pramma, on 11/18/2008, -9/+74Meh (new word), I actually didn't know this either.
Then again, *I'm* not a professional quarterback. - irfanmp, on 11/18/2008, -6/+67I was hoping this would be an article from The Onion.
- Mei2Jason, on 11/18/2008, -20/+70I guarantee that 90% of the people making fun of McNabb on Digg did not know the rule either.
- mysmilelines, on 11/18/2008, -3/+49I guarantee that 100% of the people making fun of McNabb on Digg aren't profession football players.
- SFBWork, on 11/18/2008, -9/+38I thought the QB was the smart one on the team.
- zwendkos, on 11/18/2008, -2/+29NFL overtime rules are terrible.
- swgc5, on 11/18/2008, -7/+30They need to adopt the college OT rules.
- brentinkc, on 11/18/2008, -0/+21Nope. Offensive linemen.
- jakatak, on 11/18/2008, -3/+22Give him props for being honest.
- MrGreenGenes2, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12Andy Reid was too busy eating 3 sandwiches at once...
- davdev, on 11/18/2008, -2/+13Who doesn't know the game ends in a tie? The ref explains it before the OT coin toss and whenever playoff tie breaker scenarios are discussed it is often mentioned that team X can clinch a spot with a win or a tie.
Personally I would prefer the NFL use a modified version of the college OT, but that is beyond this discussion - rpapi100, on 11/18/2008, -2/+12I guarantee that 100% of the people are people, the rest are non-people and should be treated as such.
- clinko, on 11/18/2008, -20/+30Out of curiously who else didn't know an NFL game could end in a tie.
It's ok to digg this up if you're the same, it's anonymous. --> - EvoIII8, on 11/18/2008, -1/+9Great. Proud to be a Philadelphia fan..
- arb0324, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8He wasn't overrated until he lost his legs. You have to realize the organization puts a lot on his shoulders and gives him little to work with. i.e. no power run game or legitimate threats at reciever
- pt4117, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7Yes, but the refs say the rules before every overtime period. And since he's the captain he's out there listening to those rules during every overtime game he's in... including that one.
- daimposter, on 11/18/2008, -2/+9i guarantee that 100% of people in the NFL aren't digger users.
- YuriSakazaki, on 11/18/2008, -4/+10Most people don't know an NFL game can end in a tie, to be honest. You probably wouldn't know unless you saw a game actually end in a tie.
- SportsAnna, on 11/18/2008, -1/+7came here to make the exact same comment. oh, the humanity.
- GnralHavoc, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6I actually knew it.
- rocketman42, on 11/18/2008, -1/+7Except, it comes up every time you look at the standings. They have an entire column just for ties. Has McNabb never looked at the standing before? Even before his professional career? Or how about the tie-breaking procedures for playoff positioning. They always include "win or tie" as conditions. I wouldn't expect people who aren't fans to know it, but a 10-year starting quarterback?
- jlb923, on 11/18/2008, -1/+7We shouldn't be criticizing the fact that he didn't know it could end in a tie.
We should be criticizing the fact that he laughed after his pass was picked off for the SECOND TIME IN A ROW!
I guess he gets paid millions to laugh at his own failures. - swass, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Related note: Detroit Lions players don't realize games can end in a win.
- dlberk, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6I bet half of digg didn't know this, myself included because how often does that happen
- JeddHampton, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6What game were you watching?
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5I didn't know that either and I played a long time.
We always went into overtime in highschool and college.
The CFL (canadian football league) removed overtime in 2003. - jefbob, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5He looked pretty serious in the clip from post-game that aired nonstop on ESPN yesterday.
- theaceoffire, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5I guarantee that 100% of the people saying 100% are not 100% sure of that 100% rating they gave.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -2/+6Anyone who doesn't know a football game can end in a tie is most likely a Communist.
- JeddHampton, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Hey. We're the World (Series) Champions!
- zantos420, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4"well now you know"
[drives away]
"the funny thing is-- i *did* know i couldn't do that! ahahahahahahaha!" - locondcoco, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4i agree. who has he had at WR other than TO? and we know how that turned out...
- PeterW80, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Makes that Bernard Hopkins comment look like it was spot on. Well played Donovan!
- JoeMcMonagle, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5Oh. A shot at Bush. How refreshingly new and original.
- Procure, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4"Sorry officer I.... I didn't know you couldn't do that."
- JeddHampton, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Have you seen McNabb run the two minute drill... I'd rather him not play with that kind of urgency.
Besides, he turned the ball over four times that game. If the Eagles red zone defense wasn't so good, they would have lost the game easily. - fadetoone, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4Apparently you aren't familiar with the guy.
- kocurejd, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4You could fill a library with the things Donovan McNabb doesn't know.
- Chrino, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I agree. Whenever an NFL game goes into OT, I watch until the coin flip.
- centerblack, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3sudden outbreak of common sense
- gr3yg0053, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3You obviously didnt watch the game
- MisterEX, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3No power run game?? Brian Westbrook is the biggest threat the Eagles have. Look at his stats and you'll see he's the biggest producer time and time again. Westbrook is the perfect running back; run up the middle, outside, can catch the ball on screen and flares, and can also double as a wide-out.
Granted he's not as good as he used to be, but having him in the game simply takes a lot of pressure off of any QB. - josephbloseph, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4In all honesty, if it doesn't come up too often, it shouldn't be a huge surprise when a player isn't familiar with a rule. The article description even mentions that the game continues into double overtime in playoff games, which had come up more recently than the last regular season tie.
- nickels, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Correction:
We're the World ***** Champions
Thanks Chase - sikosmurf, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3@TheSabre: Toronto, ON, Canada
- phike, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4At least half of all NFL fans knew that rule. This is pathetic, and it just proves (for the tenth time) that McNabb is the worst time clock manager in the league.
- rocketman42, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4Should Andy Reid also "remind his leader" every third down that he has to get a first down or else they have to punt?
- Kaster, on 11/18/2008, -12/+15It actually makes me more sad for myself than anything... If i care more about this game than an actual quarterback... why bother.
