You've never been to Ohio, have you? - ArizonaKid, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Totally disagree that if Michigan and OSU play again the BCS is a joke. Who else is going to play? All the other top 10 teams have a defeat. The BCS Championship is No 1 vs. No 2. That’s it.
At least Michigan lost to the No 1 team. USC lost to Oregon State, and Notre Dame was killed by Michigan. How does either team deserve a shot at the title?
The championship game should be conducted without any manipulation regardless of TV ratings. If Michigan remains the No 2 team, as they should, than suck it up.
The championship game is what it is. - ImOscar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13You mean Michigan shouldn't get to rematch OSU, but if ND beats USC they should? Even though Michigan already decisively beat ND?
- dcasegr, on 10/12/2007, -14/+27How can this tell you say the BCS is a joke? If #1 and #2 play each other, who is supposed to win? Basically, the game just showed that those 2 teams were ranked correctly, but how could they move Michigan down the rankings for having lost by only 3 points to a team who was ranked better than them?
- listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13As a Big 10 fan, I'd love to see a rematch between Michigan and OSU.
But you know what I'd love to see even more? OSU versus the best non-Big10 team. Then, when the Buckeyes take said team behind the woodshed for a 20+ victory, all of the "Big 10 Conference is overrated" folks can eat their words. Hard.
Bring on the Secondary Education Conference. I dare you! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -20/+30If OSU and Michigan rematch in the "championship game" then it will just add more fuel to the fire that the BCS is a joke.
- greepoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"Why? So Ohio St. can soundly hand Michigan their ass again?"
I have to somewhat agree, even though it ended up only a 3 point difference... I never had the impression that Ohio State was going to lose. - ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The BCS is nothing but pure BS. Why the hell is USC even still in the top 5? They lost to an unranked team. It's based upon nothing but pure lobbying power and the BCS's desire to draw high ratings. It will never be fair until there is a playoff system like every other division of NCAA football. Some teams can't help it that they may not have the toughest conference or the hardest schedule, there are only so many games. It is simply not fair that the National Title basically only goes between a dozen or so teams, therefore making it where smaller Division I schools can't get the top recruits because no matter if they go undefeated and have a great season they will never have a shot at a national title and the money that goes along with it.

- FreddieFalcon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I agree with tolbs. I think the ratings and the game would be better with a rematch. The Vegas line for a rematch would probably be 3 points. But with USC or the SEC winner going, the line will be at least 10.
I agree that the SEC is the toughest conference top to bottom but think that overall they are overrated right now. They no longer have a monopoly on the speed players and their out of conference schedules are a joke. Western Carolina? Who did the SEC beat out of conference this year of note? Arkansas was crushed by USC at home.
If they are "all that" then they should start scheduling some home and home series against mid western teams.....in the second half of the year....when its cold. But they refuse.
Southern teams suddenly don't look so fast.
As an OSU fan, I sort of buy into the whole "Michigan had their chance at the title and lost.". But Michigan will be a 10 point favorite against any southern team they are matched up against in the Rose Bowl. If USC wins out, I would love to see a Florida - Michigan match up. - LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13The BCS is a joke.
The winner of the arky Fl game should be in there. Either that or southern cal. Michigan lost. they should be out of it. - ImOscar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8No you couldn't. Not after they lost the championship game on a neutral site.
- FreddieFalcon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8National Champions are not made by your losses....but by your victories. Dude, who did the Sooners beat this year to earn consideration with those guys?
Florida will have gone with one loss from the SEC. Same with Arkansas.
USC will have beaten Cal, Notre Dame and the SEC West Champion.
Michigan has beaten Notre Dame, Wisconsin (11-1) and narrowly lost the best team in the land on the road.
Ohio State has beaten the #2 team twice in the same season.
Who has Oklahoma beaten? Washington? Come on. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Here’s what’s messed up with this situation.
Let’s say OSU and Michigan end up in the BCS title game, and Michigan wins. They are national champions, even tho they both have 1 loss and Michigan already lost to OSU? How stupid is that?
Playoffs please. Football is a mans game, let the men prove it on the field. If Rutgers and Boise State are so damn good let’s see how far they get. And if Michigan thinks they deserve it, let them win 4 games in a row in a 16 team playoff like every other division of collegiate football.
Sorry, I came from a 1-AA football powerhouse. Playoff season was a great time of year...better and more exciting than the BCS fiacso. - Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -21/+28The game was not as close as the score looks. Michigan was playing catch-up the whole time. And that #1 rush defense? Where was that?
Ohio State broke some HUGE runs. - RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Agreed. There is no way Notre Dame should get a shot ahead of Michigan.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Here's a novel idea: how about a playoff? Just like divisions 1-AA and 1-AAA have.
- jcounterman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Strength of season is huge. As a team gets better over the years, they get to play stronger opponents. They EARN this right. If they can beat them, they get to play stronger yet opponents. Eventually, they can run for the national championship.
If we didn't give the strong teams strong opponents, then there would be MANY more disputes about who the best team in the country is. Imagine if Ohio state had played Bailer instead of Texas, Central Michigan instead of Michigan, and Army instead of Michigan State? How could we REALLY say they are the best?
It might be a sad state of affairs that these teams cannot simply be ranked on one year of phenomenal play, but the system simply demands it. Othewise, every podunk nothing team would be arguing that they should be in the championship team because of their resounding defeats of eastern, western, northern, southern, and central Noname Catholic U. - 6502programmer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10As a Buckeye fan, I just want to take this opportunity to say that I sincerely hope we get a chance to beat Michigan TWICE in one season. Woody and Bo would have wanted it this way.
- greepoman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9My question is what if Michigan barely wins, or wins from a bad call? You could argue that Ohio State and Michigan should share the title or that Ohio state is still #1.
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I hope Arkansas gets Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. Or a rematch against USC. Arkansas is the real deal this year.
- FreddieFalcon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Me thinks we have a Boise State fan.
- bmatherlyjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is just a prime example why the top 5 teams should have a play off with the BCS #1 team given a by. Just so that there is no fuss at the end of the year. It's worked in Division II for years.
The ABC / ESPN favoritism poll (BCS) is a joke, everyone knows it. - pigsbladder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's great to read people talking about Arkansas when in-breeding and religious nut jobs aren't mentioned.
Go Hogs! - slois50, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8So did Arkansas, Florida, USC, Notre Dame...
Maybe it should be Boise State? - canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10give the gators a shot if we take down arkansas! or usc can come play in the sec for a season or 2 and see how easy it is to come out with one loss, including the additional conference championship game.
if i was being impartial though, i might say michigan deserves a rematch. the home team automatically gets 3-3.5 points in the spread so considering it was a 3pt game, a neutral site championship might be a better gauge. but screw that,
go gators! - ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5and Division II and Division III
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8That was the first game of the season. Arkansas has improved immensely since then. In the USC game, Arkansas had a hobbled McFadden (Heisman candidate) who saw very little action. The quarterback then was Robert Johnson, who would now be their third string QB and is playing WR instead.
If you remember that game it was still a close game at half. Arkansas gave up a couple of turnovers in the second half while close to the goal line. Had Felix Jones not coughed up the ball 3 times, that game would have been a lot closer. I don't believe Felix has fumbled since.
I, for one, would love to see a USC-Arkansas rematch. - bamafan71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5whats some crap is that Arkansas played some major ranked teams and then beat #2 Auburn and that week AU dropped down like only two places and Arkansas did not even make it to the top ten now thats some crap. somethings messed up and i think its rigged some times, cause i saw Alabama almost beat Florida, and some of the close games Florida has had like South Carolina.... so something is up and something needs to change. its like this you loose to a team you drop down and some one else moves up, so what happened? it stayed the same. something is wrong there
ps if Florida plays Arkansas for sec Arkansas could be the sec champs, just watch. - Chuck95, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Regarding Boise State...
I cannot say that I think they should be in the National Championship game. However, going undefeated, no matter how soft your schedule is, is not an easy thing to accomplish. There are several other weaker conferences, yet no other undefeated teams. How often do you see a WAC team undefeated? Its hard to go without a loss. Boise State has been a good team for several years now. I certainly think they deserve more respect than they get. I'd like to see them in a BCS bowl for sure. - jcounterman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@phej
See my earlier post. It won't happen because of strength of season, not some fatal flaw in the system. Boise didn't beat ONE ranked team. They shouldn't be in the championship game. - jcounterman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Hey lordofthesponge,
assuming you like baseball, do you only watch one game of the world series when the two best teams in the country are playing? If you're not a baseball fan, you can at least see the logic. - ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The BCS is about nothing but ratings and money. BUT look at the NCAA tourney, talk about ratings, imagine if some small D-I school made it to the playoffs, then you would have the same Cinderella story team that everyone gets behind and even non-fans watch play simply because they are the underdog. It would draw HUGE ratings.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And if you had watched the Arkansas/USC game you would have seen that with a ***** QB and the best players out for the game we still faired well. It's hard to play a game when your defense is on the field for most of the game. After they put Mustain on the field he scored after only 1:14 on the field. If he would have started it would have been a totally different ballgame.
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Touchdown Arkansas
- surfrice425, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ok, here's the deal. the only poll you have to look at is the bcs rankings; nothing else matters. that's who goes to the championship game. usc is only .007 points behind michigan, and they still have 2 more games to play. if usc can win the next two games (vs. #5 ND and ucla) then there is almost no doubt that they will overtake michigan. michigan is done, so they just have to sit and wait.
- All4not, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Talking about Vegas' lines. We should just ask them what their line would be for each top team against the #1 team and go with the one that gets less points as it would be a better game.
Vegas' only motive is to make money, hence they do good work on figuring out the line and wouldn't be biased like a coaches poll. They should make all coaches votes open to the public. There's no reason for USC or UM to get #7 or #8 votes. - LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes Southern Cal beat Arky at the beginning of the year. But the way Arky is playing now they can beat anyone in the country. Including So.Cal.
- ImOscar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11ArizonaKid hit the nail on the head. People can bitch all they want, but the championship game should be #1 and #2. I think it's pretty clear Michigan is still #2.
It's not as exciting for the fans, but it is what it is. Nobody would have a problem with this if OSU beat Michigan week 4, dropped to the low teens, and then won their way back to #2.
For the record I hate Michigan, and think Ann Arbor is a whore. I grew up cheering for the Gophers in Minnesota and went to Wisconsin. - jcounterman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Are you serious? a rematch of OSU and Michgan? OF COURSE PEOPLE WILL WATCH. I'm a transplant from Ohio to Texas....just as many people down here watched the game this weekend as up north. A rivalry this draw a record number of watchers.
And I say this even though I am a huge ND fan.
And Arkansas did not pass ND in the BCS standing, which is all that really matters at this point. - All4not, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ rahmza
People should know what they are talking about before making an arguement. Michigan never played Texas, they played ND. They also played top 10 team Wisconsin(1 loss). If you want to try and argue that they were unranked at the time, then you need to go back and look at all the teams that were ranked when Michigan played them.
They don't play weak non-conference teams like some, like a AA Western Carolina. - parislemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3anyone who watched that game knows that is not true. if anything the score was closer then the game was. there is simply no way ND will pass Michigan in the BCS. 4 teams have a shot at the title game against OSU: Michigan, USC, Florida, and Arkansas, with USC and Michigan being the two most likely candidates.
- Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3First of all, I was wearing my Maize & Blue on Saturday. I would be saying the same things about Ohio State if they had lost. However, I do think that Michigan had their opportunity and missed it. Yes, they may be the 2nd best in the country, but out of Ohio State and Michigan, I don't think you need a rematch. Give someone else a shot. There are other worthy teams. We've already seen Michigan play them. It would be MORE INTERESTING watching Michigan play someone else, and Ohio State play someone else in January. I am probably the biggest fan of the Big Ten that there probably is. That said, I don't want to see a rematch of Michigan/Ohio State. The fight continues next year.
It's like someone else here said: Lets watch Ohio State and Michigan show the other conferences, namely the SEC, who's boss. I think that is a more interesting matchup. I think fans deserve to see it. I'd much rather see the SEC champion fall to the Buckeyes, or the Big 12 Champions or ACC Champions or Big East Champions fall to the wolverines. Or the Badgers. It's rare enough that big teams from two different conferences play each other because they like to schedule easy games for their non-conference games.
AND I think there's a lot to be said for watching the only two undefeated teams in the nation play each other. That seems like a REAL championship to me.
Okay, Rutgers did drop the ball. What I was saying LAST week (when Rutgers was still undefeated) is that an undefeated Rutgers would deserve a championship game if they finished undefeated, over the ohio state/Michigan loser. - steelsmack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"If that ticky tack personal foul wasn't called..."
You want ticky-tack, look at the calls the officials had to call to keep Michigan in the game. Two of Michigan's TD's were on drives that were 3rd and long or 4th and long that Michigan couldn't complete, so officials called VERY ticky-tack pass interference calls on Ohio State just to keep Michigan in the game. Heck the biggest instance of pass interference in the game was on the interception that Troy Smith threw. The officials did exactly what ABC wanted, kept the game close. If you think Ohio State benefited from it, THINK AGAIN! - rockefeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This ranking system is so ***** stupid. Just have a playoff system, like the NFL, at the end of the year, geeez.
- DerTeufel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The BCS is a sham! A power grab by the big conferences to try and shut the other division I conferences out of a potential national championship.
There is no college football national champion. Never has been! All we've had are Miss America pageants. The most popular kid gets "declared" the winner.
Prove it in a 16 team playoff or shut the hell up. - DirteeGoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If Michigan plays Ohio State in the National Championship, and wins; the two teams will just be 1-1. Who wants to see that? I don't.
- Kinmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ rahmza
"They played two ranked teams, Texas and Ohio State."
You forgot to mention that they destroyed (read: obliterated) the #2 (at the time) ranked Fighting Irish.
@ everyone saying the game wasn't as close as it looked
Your logic is flawed, how can a game not be as close as it looked? Its the score! It is exactly as close as it looked. Hence the reason we have scores. To determine a winner, the closer the score the closer the game. - jrain157, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4There is nothing greater in college football for a Buckeyes fan than the potential to beat Michigan twice in one season.
- carltonsmith, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7The BCS Championship is supposed to be the two best teams in the country. Michigan losing to OSU by three points in Columbus is not enough to say that Michigan isn't as good as the other one loss teams.
