- kmattso, on 10/29/2007, -2/+27Chargers will be fired up for the game.
- madgamer, on 10/29/2007, -1/+12as a san diegan and a chargers fan who hosted 3 evacuated families in my house during the fires, this is a good thing. i'm going to be at the game tomorrow. it'll be an emotional and positive experience. no, it's not going to bring people's homes back from the ashes, but it will give us something to cheer for.
- robbh66, on 10/29/2007, -0/+11How exactly is it dangerous?
- roberto_deneero, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8Sweet! San Diegans need something fun to divert their stressful minds right now. Game on!
- dabears1218, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7Since many evacuees who still have homes have been allowed to return home, other evacuation centers now have room. They're moving people from Qualcomm Stadium to smaller centers around the area.
- Soave, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6Sounds like normal LA air quality. :)
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -0/+6chargers will be pumped. don't start houston if you have them as your DEF on fantasy
- wakkow, on 10/27/2007, -0/+6As of Friday morning there were only about 300 evacuees left at the Stadium. They would all be directed or transported to evacuation centers closer to their neighborhoods or moved to the Del Mar Fairgrounds evacuation site by the Red Cross. The air quality has improved substantially in the last 48 hours and is only bad down south near Chula Vista or north in parts of Oceanside.
- Lax32, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5No. There isnt any time in the NFL season to reschedule a game. It takes an NFL player pretty much a full week to recover and prepare for their next game, so they cant double up one week. They cant really move the game to monday, it wouldnt really do any good and then they would piss off ticket holders and might not even get airtime.
The only option they really had was to move it somewhere else, and because the stadium isnt a shelter anymore I guess they deemed it unnecessary. - dabears1218, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5The fires are on the downward slope now. LA County is fine now (just smoky), and Orange and San Diego Counties are doing much better. It's actually raining in Southern California right now, so after today the fires should be pretty much done with.
I see no reason to reschedule the game. It's something positive for San Diegans to do. - Soave, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6If you live here, I'd assume you know that the stadium was being used as an evacuation center. Earlier this week, we didn't know how long people would need to stay there, or how long the smoky air would last.
- Soave, on 10/29/2007, -2/+7The stadium was being used as an evac center, so it was full of people. Plus, the air here is still kinda smoky.
- GrodyChamp, on 10/29/2007, -1/+5I live about 1 mile from the stadium off Aero Dr. The air is clear. Almost all the evacuees are gone. No reason for the game not to be played. So all you ***** posting "OMG FOOTBALL ISN'T MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVACUEES!!!" can shut your pie holes and stop believing everything you read on the internet. Idiots.
- ronaldinho, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3I hope the game will be able to help people in SD, especially those who lost something from the fires, to cheer up. Hang in there, San Diego! Hope the fire will be put out soon and we are all behind you.
- dabears1218, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3I'd be interested to know where the hell ashes are still falling in LA County. It's raining. That's not ash, and the "dark sky" is because of the rain clouds, not thick smoke.
- Veurruckte, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2So San Diegans should dwell on their losses? The game will serve as a positive distraction for many people, for 3 hours they will have something to cheer for.
- misterhat, on 10/28/2007, -3/+5Katrina Effect?
- Veurruckte, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Dangerous? No. Unhealthy? Probably. Either way, if the firefighters and civilians (Such as myself) who live in San Diego have to deal with the poor air quality, there's no reason a bunch of overpaid athletes shouldn't have to.
- convergent, on 10/28/2007, -1/+3Air quality isn't bad, I live here and I've been outside a lot for the past few days.
- Veurruckte, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Not to be biased (I am a huge Charger fan), but I wouldn't start them anyways. The Charger's offense is really getting rolling again, and with the addition of Chris Chambers it should be a blowout.
- Veurruckte, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Amen to that madgamer. I'll also be at the game tomorrow, and I'm sure we will see many tears being shed. Hopefully, this game will provide some kind of relief for the families who have suffered the most throughout this tragedy.
- yoda17, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Balboa park was packed today (one of the busiest I've ever seen it). Lots of people running, etc.
- GrodyChamp, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Almost everyone there has been cleared to go home. Idiot.
- Veurruckte, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1The Chargers should be extremely pumped up tomorrow. Many of their homes (Including Ladanian Tomlinson's home) were saved thanks to the brave efforts of the firefighters. Speaking of which, Junior Seau's house burned down. You have to wonder, with many people considering him a traitor for joining the Patriots...nevermind.
- WootZoot, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Hell, their stadium is where they evacuated people to.
- GrodyChamp, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1I live right next to the stadiu. Theres only a handful of people left there. Good to know you believe everything you read on the internet. Idiot.
- GrodyChamp, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1I live 1 mile from the stadium. The sky is clear as ever right now. The air quality is fine.
- yoda17, on 10/28/2007, -4/+4The stadium is 20 miles from the fires. It's not like the city burned down. What's the problem?
DISCLAIMER: I live here - GrodyChamp, on 10/29/2007, -3/+3ou are a moron. It's not even close to dangerous in the area of the stadium. I live less than a mile from Qualcomm and wasn't evacuated. Die.
- DontGiveADamn, on 10/28/2007, -1/+1You're right, real Americans are rich and wouldn't need to stay at a public evacuation center. They would simply fly off to their vacation home or just stay in a hotel. Obviously these people are losers that didn't make it in life and now they are looking for public handouts. The city should just buy them a bus ticket to get them out of here. Where did all the Katrina people go? Send them there.
/sarcasm - Bukowsky, on 10/28/2007, -1/+1nope. Houston is closed. We are no longer accepting any new refugees.
- Bukowsky, on 10/29/2007, -3/+3Go Texans!
- cobrabyte, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1Stinks? We've won just as many games as the Chargers have, fool.
- stouffer67, on 10/29/2007, -2/+2Good thing they're playing a team that stinks.
- ChunkerMunker, on 10/29/2007, -1/+0I live in Bellflower and NO its not raining here, nor are the skies dark due to the rain clouds.
But now it makes sense if the skies in SD are clear, I made a mistake.
The skies are clear in SD because, the winds carried the smoke down here. So I can understand that, my bad. - sirbeta, on 10/27/2007, -1/+0Wow, is this supposed to be like some 'entering the lion's den' thing? The fires were not even remotely close to the stadium--in fact, the stadium became an evacuation center, it's probably one of the safest structures to be in, in the event of the area catching fire. I live right next to that stadium and the closest fires were like 20 miles away.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -5/+4So what?, Its not like the stadium itself is on fire
- Tommygun24, on 10/28/2007, -1/+0Good for the fans, but how much of a distraction has this been on the team? It will be interesting to see how disciplined and focused they are tomorrow.
- FishHammer, on 10/29/2007, -6/+5Couldn't they just reschedule it? I'd imagine most of the people along these wildfires don't exactly have football as their #1 priority right now. This is stupid.
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -7/+5So what?, Its not like the stadium itself is on fire
- NeoSporin, on 10/28/2007, -4/+1Dugg for Dugged
- ChunkerMunker, on 10/29/2007, -4/+0So their gonna play even tho the air is still polluted?
I live in L.A. county and as I speak, the sky is still dark due to the fires, you can smell the air pollution due to the fires and you can see the ashes falling from the sky.
And their still gonna play?
smfh - robbh66, on 10/28/2007, -5/+1Yeah... New Orleans used the Superdome during Katrina...didn't work out so well...
- NeoSporin, on 10/28/2007, -11/+2It brings in money, and who would say no to money! Who cares if it is dangerous!
- Mac101, on 10/28/2007, -25/+3Yay! First Comment! Crap now Im going to get dugged down. :(
