- RevJonathan, on 01/12/2009, -0/+14I always liked Shanahan. He'll make some other team successful in the future.
- Jericho6, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11You know, because hiring the Patriots coordinators worked out so well for Notre Dame and the Cleveland Browns.
I can't really rag on McDaniels, mainly because he's such an unknown. It's hard to give him credit for the Patriots success. They were good before he got there, and they'll be good after he leaves. But it's a risky move to hire such a young unknown. By all accounts Denver should be pretty good next season given the right direction. - FaceCage, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5I will miss Shanahan, he was a great coach. I'm not sure why they let him go, they had so many injuries this season, you can't really blame the coach for that. They also have a new quarterback. I thought when they got Cutler, it'd be 3 years before they really came into their own. Apparently, you have to win a superbowl every year now to keep your job.
Invesco sells out 70k seats every game, and people love the team and loved Shanahan.
Anyway, sorry about the rantage. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4He's young enough to be a player! And he's already a head coach!
- hawksfan03, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3belichick has had nothing but praise for this guy and I believe he fully supported him becoming the new broncos head coach
- poopdigger, on 01/12/2009, -1/+3Don't forget the Jets!
- souljaboytellem, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Yes but no playoff appearances for, i don't really feel like checking but I think 4 years, they are going to blame the coaching staff, personally I think Rick Dennison should have gotten the boot, but whatever, maybe this will turn out for the best
- hawksfan03, on 01/12/2009, -1/+3i was hoping mcdaniels and cassell would be coming to the vikings this offseason. I guess we are stuck with another year of a mediocre head coach and a mediocre (at best) QB
- souljaboytellem, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2I STILL can't believe they fired Shannahan, he was an amazing coach, and wasn't afraid to take risks. I've been a Broncos fan since i was really little, so I'm going to stay caught up with this news, I'd rather have Mike back, but McDaniels is not a bad choice for replacement, I guess time will only tell.
- gall0249, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Glad to hear that they won't be taking Leslie Frasier away from the Vikes. Now we need to Lions to pass on him.....
- SAEJO, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2I can't believe they fired Shanahan either, but the Broncos just weren't going anywhere anymore. I think this is a good thing.
- romeyinfc, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Time for Denver fans to stock up on hoodies and cut off the sleeves
- Treason, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1St Louis will take Cassell :)
- Rocksolid89, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1Getting a good personnel man in there will do more for them than any coach. I still think Shanny got the axe because Bowlen just couldn't find a way to tell him he needed to go back to just coaching, a la Holmgren giving up his GM powers in Seattle.
- LordRedSnake, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Yeah, he'll end up right back in New England. Brady in all likelihood won't be ready for the season opener and as nice a season as Cassel had towards the end there, he's still not a step up from Jay Cutler, who had a great season despite the team's running back struggles.
- jazzguitar18, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1no you are right. A lot of people drilled shanahan for the D players he drafted. No one looks at the royals, marshalls, cutlers, sheflers ( can't spell ), clady and so forth. Maybe just take his GM duties away or hire a better D coordinator but firing shanny????
- tony2t, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1he should be a good coach in denver
- davdev, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1why would Denver trade for Cassel when they already have a pretty good QB.
And yes, the will have to trade for him because NE has already said they are going to place the Franchise tag on him - bigtoes, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Unless he can bring in Jesus to run that miserable defense they will be horrible next year as well. Good luck to him though . He looks younger than 32 . Extreme stress & lack of sleep seem to work for him .
- NCSD, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1I don't think It'll matter, the chargers will still beat them every single time
- chrisemc, on 01/12/2009, -2/+2Makes you wonder if his exit from New England was any more graceful than Eric Mangini's, or is Belichick going to have him offed.
- devnuller, on 01/12/2009, -3/+3Mangini is a rat fink.
After Mangini left the Patriots he raided the organization for talent and basically behaved like a loser. He then went out and turned in his "friend and mentor" in for filming sidelines which most NFL coaches consider a non-issue, but the NFL made an example of this event labeling Belichick and the organization "cheaters" for something that many coaches (who also think he is a fink) have been doing for years.
With friends like this, who needs enemies? Sorry Cleveland, but MANGINI IS A RAT FINK LOSER - chrisemc, on 01/12/2009, -2/+2Not only is he a rat fink, he also bears a striking resemblance to Kevin James.
- lilbitmoreslyk, on 01/12/2009, -2/+2Are you kidding me? Taping plays from the sidelines a NON ISSUE?
Keep smoking that cauliflower buddy. - 3dprototype, on 01/12/2009, -3/+3Broncos ranked high in offense. LAST in points allowed. They hire an offense-minded coach. Where do you think they should have focused? Guess we shouldn't throw any logic at this.
- DanielThePoet, on 01/12/2009, -4/+1That sucks. Now Dallas is probably stuck with Jason Garrett and Wade Phillips again. We were hoping Garrett would get the job so Jerry Jones would find reason to hire Shanahan.
- orthodoxDrew, on 01/12/2009, -6/+2lawl sux to be a patriots fan
- orthodoxDrew, on 01/12/2009, -6/+1FAIL
- D3ADBOLT, on 01/12/2009, -7/+1I guess we know where Cassel will end up
