- Rudymoman, on 10/18/2009, -8/+206You stay classy, Dante Wesley.
- feebes, on 10/19/2009, -0/+177It's not mentioned here but Clifton Smith got a concussion from this hit and did not return to the game.
- NoLibertarians, on 10/19/2009, -3/+175Good job by the officials.
- jpbazinet, on 10/19/2009, -2/+146Totally agree with the Cheap Shot part... but "brawl" can be removed from the title.
- inactive, on 10/18/2009, -5/+145his bank account will take a major hit first thing next week
- wrzhydr, on 10/19/2009, -0/+131Smith hit the ground before the ball did. That's some ***** timing.
- CoreyFC, on 10/19/2009, -0/+112As a Panthers fan, I hope he gets fined and suspended. Classless.
edit: there was no brawl. The officials did a good job handling the situation. - earthtoandy, on 10/19/2009, -2/+98I hope a suspension follows as well. Its completely unacceptable and even more so that he acted like a child who hadn't done anything wrong. The Bucs are angels for not beating him to death.
- bubbameister33, on 10/19/2009, -1/+78As a Panthers fan, Jake Delhomme should be fined for attempting to play QB.
- Krazer101, on 10/19/2009, -0/+77wtf is wesley arguing about on the sideline? Does he really think he has a case?
- Nubli, on 10/19/2009, -0/+65I like how Wesley looks upset over the call. What else should you expect?
- MuseMike, on 10/19/2009, -1/+54How is it not a cheap shot? You are not allowed to hit him until he has touched the ball. Cheap on all acounts, he is lucky he didn't get hurt, he had no time to get ready for impact.
- iver2435, on 10/19/2009, -17/+69He should be suspended for the rest of the season.
- bmdubya, on 10/19/2009, -0/+52You can't hit the returner until he has the ball.
- bluerazor413, on 10/19/2009, -5/+55yes, because 10,000 dollars is a major hit to a millionaire.
He should be suspended. - rocketman42, on 10/19/2009, -0/+47@diskoh, maybe you should read the rule book. The kicking team cannot take out the person catching the ball. If that was legal, don't you think everyone would level the guy instead of standing there waiting for him to catch it? Do you even watch NFL?
- rwbrinso, on 10/18/2009, -7/+52What? He was just trying to get the ball back so Delhomme could give the Bucs better field position!
- bruleboy, on 10/19/2009, -3/+47Im sorry. there are a few times that, as a football player, you whoop some ass. he, in my opinion, is luck to have made it off the field.
- drewowilson, on 10/19/2009, -0/+43not a cheap shot? smith had his eyes up on the ball in the sky and was laid out. that's pretty dirty and cheap in my book.
- NLaBruiser, on 10/19/2009, -5/+39Dante is lucky the officials did such a good job. I'm nothing resembling an athlete, but if I saw a teammate go down with a cheap shot like that, I'd be swinging my helmet right for that *****'s head...
- TheRedeemer, on 10/19/2009, -10/+44I doubt he's a millionaire. He's a freakin' Panther.
- aherman, on 10/19/2009, -0/+31A salary of $970,000/year.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player?statsId=5986 - bmdubya, on 10/19/2009, -1/+31Not only that, but Wesley left his feet when he hit Smith. Leaving your feet to hit someone just standing there waiting for a punt is very cheap, and I'm pretty sure its illegal.
- An800lbGorilla, on 10/19/2009, -3/+31He meant keeping the other team from murdering Wesley. BTW, typing /s doesn't make you any less of an *****.
- kingbinji, on 10/19/2009, -0/+28if that's not a cheap shot, i don't what is
- Spotacus, on 10/19/2009, -0/+282006 Rulebook, since you haven't read it:
http://blogmedia.thenewstribune.com/media/2006%20N ...
Rule 10, Section 1, Article 4, page 68 under Fair Catch.
"During any kick (except one which fails to cross the scrimmage line), if any receiver could reach the kick in flight, no player of the kickers shall interfere with either:
(a) the receiver;
(b) the ball; or
(c) the receiver’s path to the ball."
Doesn't have to signal fair catch and not a clean hit. - NJSlacker, on 10/19/2009, -2/+29What the ***** was he thinking?!?
- thebreach, on 10/19/2009, -0/+24No kidding, they must have serious balls to get in the middle of 30 supremely pissed off pro football players
- johnboycanada, on 10/19/2009, -0/+22I've been a Carolina fan since the team's inception. Even watching the game today, this disgusted me! Fan or not, there is no room for this behaviour in the NFL!
- Larsonal777, on 10/19/2009, -0/+21His reaction after the ejection just shows how small of a character he is. If you do something like that... you best quick say "oh ***** i ***** up is he alright?"... and definitely not worry about playing the rest of the game.
- tcquad, on 10/19/2009, -1/+20The hit itself would've likely drawn a flag, since he left his feet to hit a guy up high. Try as he might, Wesley can't defend hitting someone in an unprotected position who was clearly still watching the ball and couldn't have known the defender was coming.
He'll be suspended, probably for about 4 games. If the suspension is 6 games, he'd come back for the Dec. 6th rematch between the teams. - roxgod666, on 10/19/2009, -0/+19Getting hit when you're not supposed to be hit is a cheap shot. He was not expecting it and was not prepared, still a cheap shot. The timing is the reason it is a cheap shot. If we got into a fight, and i told you i give up and just punch you square in the face, that is a cheap shot. It was a clean hit wasn't it?
- Nubli, on 10/19/2009, -0/+18How is it a clean hit if there was no possession in the first place?
- Blackops666, on 10/19/2009, -4/+22Its for breast cancer awareness month. Dirrr
- circa1015, on 10/19/2009, -0/+17NFL fines are always ***** in relation to their incomes. It is like a waiter getting fined $5 for beating up a customer.
- Barbarino, on 10/19/2009, -0/+17Watch it again, his own players talk ***** to him when he's on the sideline. I love how he shows no contrition instead he did what Blount did for Oregon and played the thug role till the end.
- mpschan, on 10/19/2009, -0/+16You're an idiot. You can't hit the returner until he has the ball. Halo rule (or lack of one) has nothing to do with this.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/19/2009, -1/+16When you leave your feet and lead with your head, that is no accident or "I didn't mean to do it". What a ____.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 10/19/2009, -0/+15You're a ***** moron.
1. You can't hit a punt returner like that before HE HAS NOT CAUGHT THE BALL.
2. You can't hit a guy high like that. - superkeer, on 10/19/2009, -0/+14You don't know the rules of football as well as you think you do.
- motivatedguy, on 10/19/2009, -0/+14If John Fox was any kind of head coach in the NFL he would have had that ass hole off his sideline before the officials ejected him from the game. I would have told him to take his dirty playing ass home. I'd say, "I don't even want to see you in the locker room when this is over! Get gone!!"
- DanKalmar, on 10/19/2009, -2/+16Actually, men can get breast cancer as well. And more awareness for breast cancer is never a bad thing.
- thebreach, on 10/19/2009, -0/+14There was no reason to jump, what an *****. Not the mark of a professional, I hope he gets reamed by the NFL office. Smith could have been seriously hurt with a shot like that.
- fiziks, on 10/19/2009, -3/+16That was completely uncalled for, there is no excuse for that kind of behavior. Wesley didn't give Smith any chance to protect himself.
- bubbameister33, on 10/19/2009, -2/+15That's gonna cost at least $25,000.
- dhjackburton, on 10/19/2009, -0/+12On the grounds of him being a dumbass.
- XBebop, on 10/19/2009, -2/+13All thugs act like that. It's never their fault.
- Nintendesert, on 10/19/2009, -4/+15Damn, I'm betting a 4 game suspension for that one.
- schlagsahne, on 10/19/2009, -1/+12cool story bro
- bruleboy, on 10/19/2009, -0/+10http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=457483 ...
http://www.missoulian.com/sports/football/article_ ...
both articles say he called for a fair catch. also. the halo rule is only how close you can get to the player in question. it has nothing to do with hitting them -
