ps, go seahawks :( - goleopards1, on 01/02/2009, -2/+23Cut that meat! Cut that meat! Cut that meat!
- BrownManUPS, on 01/02/2009, -5/+24When Peyton Manning retires, he will own almost every single passing record in football. He is an ardent study of the game, and certainly deserved this title. Now the team has to back this up and get the Lombardi trophy, of course.
- diggity74, on 01/03/2009, -0/+15And Peyton shared one with Steve McNair
- RcFromTwitter, on 10/10/2009, -0/+13"You're going down Manning!"
"That's right I am... Fourth floor! Gettin' a massage today... I'm excited."
That's just priceless. - inkubusfan, on 01/03/2009, -0/+12nothing matters but the ring.
- amishjim, on 01/03/2009, -0/+11Cut that Meat! Cut that Meat!
- sleeknerve, on 01/03/2009, -1/+11As much as a good year he had, i think its about sometime that a defensive player gets it. Harrison on the steelers is a main reason why they have been so good this year, and i thought he deserved it more than manning
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+10unless you like 6'5, 230 lb quarterbacks.....laser, rocket arm...
- Chirp08, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9Peyton Manning got a team that shouldn't be in the playoffs into the playoffs, Warner and Brees merely just did their job.
- Dealjobber, on 01/03/2009, -1/+10Don't forget, that 3rd year Brett got it, he shared it with Barry Sanders.
- paulvq, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9Peyton Manning led his team to a 12-4 record and a current 9 game win streak. During that streak, he went 209-290 with 2248 yards, 17 TDs, and 3 INTs
Kurt Warner and his team fell apart toward the second half of the season going 2-4 in their final six games.
Finally as a New Orleans resident and Saints fan, I'd love to agree with you on Brees, but this wasn't his year other than his incredible run for the passing yardage record. His team isn't in the playoffs. - SnuKs, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8Congrats Manning. Looking forward to the matchup against my team on saturday night. Colts-Chargers. Always a good close game!
- rgersmrk, on 01/03/2009, -1/+9Nope. His 8-8 record compared to the Colts 12-4 record speaks volumes.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -11/+19Atleast they didnt give it to his average shotty mediocre brother tard looking Eli.
- akaakc, on 01/03/2009, -2/+9Extremely impressive.
There were many deserving players this season, but Peyton Manning is one of the most consistent, professional NFL quarterbacks in the history of the league. I watch him lead his team each chance I get because it's like watching an artist work. A true and genius football mind. I hope the Colts end this historic run with a ring. I'd like to see nothing more. The Indianapolis Colts are the definition of team. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7Colts won 9 in a row to make the playoffs, after Peyton recovered from the knee injury. The Chargers won a big 4 in a row, going 5-3 after their bye.
So yes, I CAN say the Colts had a better run. And they did that run with Addai hurt much of it.
Eat a big bag, cuz the Colts are about to knock the Chargers out of the playoffs... - jedinate, on 01/03/2009, -2/+8A future Hall of Famer, on a strong team, has a great season. I'm very impressed...
How about Matt Ryan, who came in and turned around a team that was seriously down and in the process looked like anything but a rookie? - Jabrams2, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6I think its warranted, Turner getting more 1st place votes than them. He was an unknown (I know Ryan was too of couse), and he just tore the league to shreds this year. Actually, as I'm writing this, I kinda have to change my mind and agree with you. Matt Ryan was a rookie and led a team that was in disarray to the playoffs. Enough said.
- flyers126, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6rub some dirt on it
- pandaexpress79, on 01/03/2009, -2/+8GO CHARGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- ToddIU03, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Yeah, cause a 9 game win streak after 2 offseason surgeries, no running game and no defense is just the same as beating 4 mediocre teams. And Peyton isn't a douchebag like Rivers.
- OnSolThree, on 01/03/2009, -1/+6Very surprising to me that Peterson didn't even get close. The Vikings basically got to the playoffs on his back and he led the league in rushing.
- scheibs14, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5To all those saying AP should have gotten it, he doesn't deserve an MVP when he dropped the rock 9 times during the year. He was part of the problem that lost it against the Falcons which almost led to a lost chance at the postseason. He had a lot of votes before that game and there was talk of it being a two man race between him and Peyton. Trust me, I'm a huge AP fan (see: my avatar) but he put the Vikes in a lot of difficult positions with all his fumbles.
- FordeX, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5He lead the league in fumbles. You don't win MVP awards as a running back putting the ball on the ground that much. Dude is a beast though.
- whatthefu, on 01/03/2009, -3/+8Wtf? Eli is a good quarterback. I hate the Giants and I still think that.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -7/+12
Congrats to Peyton.
NOW GO KICK SOME CHARGER ASS. - RedLegBebop, on 01/03/2009, -1/+5If the Steelers had been able to beat the Colts at home, you may have had an argument.
- mugicha, on 01/03/2009, -3/+7Too bad the Chargers are going to end their season tomorrow. Just like last year.
- CoreGMRConMan, on 01/03/2009, -1/+5ive met Peyton. hes a class act. Rivers on the other hand is a giant douchebag.
- smacksaw, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4As a Steelers fan I have to disagree. Harrison is amazing this year, but so is the rest of the defense.
Manning did it with huge piles of ***** surrounding him. That's the difference. It would be hard for Harrison not to have a good year with so many people on the Steelers stepping up. Harrison and the other players fed off of each other.
Everyone on the Colts had down year. Manning lifted them up. And think about it - the D was horrible this year. So he managed the game and kept that horrible D off the field. It reminds me of the Favre vs Rodgers threads. I don't care about Rodgers' stats. Manning had good stats. The difference is that Manning controlled the entire game like a veteran. Rodgers did not. Rodgers could not compensate for his weak defense. Manning did. - BN89, on 01/02/2009, -10/+13He deserved it...took his team on an amazing run.
- NeoCortex, on 01/03/2009, -2/+5Most Visible Promoter?
- smacksaw, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3It's from a commercial airing right now. You'll see it tomorrow.
- smacksaw, on 01/03/2009, -2/+5I really don't care for the Manning family, but props where props are due - Manning is your MVP this year, no doubt about it.
I wish that people would think about what the MVP means before commenting. If they want an award for the best statistics, lobby the AP to create one. But the person who is the most valuable to their team and the league is your MVP and there are intangibles that transcend statistics that are important.
I'm not saying Manning's stats don't matter. They do. Had the Bears made the playoffs, I would have argued Matt Forte as MVP. You can pick players who have peers with comparable stats, but it's what they mean to their team. No one took their team on their back and carried them like Manning did. He had no margin for error and made no error. Once he saw that his surrounding cast was not going to pick it up, he took control and did it himself.
If you look at the last game with the Titans, Manning's influence continued long after he called it a regular season. Even without him on the field his presence was there. His stamp, his example, his message - it's on this team. I am in AWE of what he did this year.
And again. I hate the guy.
Let's not all be myopic, misinformed homers. Then you're just a Seahawks fan. Be objective, eat some humble pie and admit a guy who isn't on your team is the best. Admit the truth. Manning is the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER in the NFL this year. - akaakc, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Can't agree with you more about Ryan. Unbelievable. If he continues to play like THAT, then maybe he will end up with three MVP awards one day as well. Still a little early to call that one, but a good start none-the-less. A fantastic rookie season, and I hope he builds on such a strong foundation.
- glhf, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4No doubt Eli is good. But compared to Peyton...
I'm glad he got a ring and considering the team he got it against really allowed him to escape his brothers shadow (if only for most of a season). - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4Your trolling gets a 2/10. Next time, mention how he cried through his broken jaw, or pretend limped on his infected knee.
When you do both of those, remember to un-secure yourself from your mama's teat. - zider, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4I'll kill a snitch.
- dmbfan2007, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Well played, sir. I'm an Indy fan and it means a lot when fans across the country are happy with the selection.
- shiddysmurf, on 01/03/2009, -3/+6Say it with me, say it with me, here we go..... Let's go, Insurance Adjusters, let's go!!!!
- DTJunkie07, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4If you knew anything about the third Manning brother you would have shut the ***** up before you typed that.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Can we add "One Tough *****" to Peyton's list of accomplishments? Really, how many QB's play with a broken jaw?
- Walcherina, on 01/03/2009, -3/+5I'm biased to Adrian Peterson because I'm from Minnesota but Peyton sure deserved it.
- spectre51, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Same with the Pro Bowl which is why things need to change with that. You cna't vote for something like MVP or the Pro Bowl with only half a season played.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Except that the Colts weren't that strong this year. They were banged up all year, Sanders, Addai, Saturday. Marvin Harrison is clearly over the hill, and the defense still can't stop anyone from running the ball. Ryan at least had White and Turner.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Not valuable enough to stop mcgahee from scoring back-to-back long rushing td's and saving the cowboy's playoff hopes...otherwise, it'd be a no-brainer...
- ShugNinx21, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2So you are somehow saying that Peyton played for a crappy team that won 13 games last year and Pennington came to a team that won only 1 game last year and was the worst team in the NFL.
Pennington's team also had the majority of its roster revamped and an entirely new coaching staff and front office.
Pennington was also released from the Jets and joined the Dolphins barely a month (maybe less) before the regular season, where Peyton is playing in the same offense he always has with the same staff and coaches.
Pennington also led his team to the greatest turnaround in NFL history. It just doesn't happen. To put it in perspective, it would be like Detroit winning their division and making the playoff next year with 10 or 11 wins.
Not saying Peyton doesn't deserve it but, he got some votes because of who he is and not just what he did. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2It's from Peyton's latest mastercard commercial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6mfDJ02VCY - Fragnarg, on 01/03/2009, -2/+4Epic Game, i would want Peyton to win it.
