- Yousty, on 12/08/2008, -4/+34I WANT PLAYOFFS!
This is how the bowl schedule should look:
#1 Oklahoma vs #8 Penn State
#4 Alabama vs #5 USC
#3 Texas vs #6 Utah
#2 Florida vs #7 Texas Tech
Followed by THREE more games to decide the national champion. Anybody who wouldn't want to see those seven games can not call themself a college football fan.
***** you BCS! - daivos, on 12/08/2008, -4/+23BCS = Boring Championship Series. Alabama / Utah? Ohio St. / Texas? USC / Penn St.? Even though I'm a devout Hokie, I'll admit that Va. Tech doesn't belong in the BCS this year. Good thing they have the Bearcats to play, who equally don't belong.
How about Alabama / USC or Alabama / Texas. Either of those would be incredible games. How about Texas Tech / Penn St? That would be a great game too.
Does anyone really feel the Oklahoma / Florida winner is the clear cut national champion? Personally, I think either of those teams would have a tough time against Texas or USC.
What a mess. That's why I hate college football unless Va. Tech is playing. And that's sad. - elindy, on 12/08/2008, -6/+23Fake.
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl?
Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl?
Did you think we wouldn't notice? This is so obviously... what? It's real?! - neo991lb, on 12/08/2008, -6/+16Ohio State is so counterfeit. And all of their fans are royal douchebags. I can't wait to see Texas give them the ***** business.
- TheCod, on 12/08/2008, -1/+10Just like Florida and LSU right?
- Yousty, on 12/08/2008, -0/+7and by sunny Florida you mean Hawaii?
- dafragsta, on 12/08/2008, -1/+8I'd be all for a rematch.
- ShoeSh1ne, on 12/08/2008, -7/+14Man, you guys are going to get destroyed in a major bowl... AGAIN.
- georgemason01, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6There's also more money to be made off more games...it's a win-win for everyone.
***** the RI...I mean BCS. - dlm85, on 12/08/2008, -3/+9I O
- Shabonkerz, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6Yeah, I'm kinda disappointed to see Utah as our opponent. Kinda wanted USC or a team that is actually a challenge.
- pcdescha, on 12/08/2008, -1/+7I like how the category this was submitted to is named "American and Canadian Football". Canada, you, have great indie rock but you should probably just give up the whole football thing.
- jordanlgta, on 12/08/2008, -6/+12Alabama vs. Utah is a joke. And don't give me that "what about Boise State beating Oklahoma" crap. That isn't going to happen again. Alabama will thump Utah.
- andrewbr500, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6They are playing in the Hawaii Bowl, which is obviously not in Florida. Also, Washington is the worst team in football.
- alexkball, on 12/08/2008, -1/+7Two conference champions playing in a BCS game?!
WOW - peters1023, on 12/08/2008, -0/+5Agreed. Go UT.
- wildgilbert, on 12/08/2008, -0/+5You forgot the "Yes, Troy is Actually D-1" Bowl.
- dafragsta, on 12/08/2008, -0/+5Yeah, meatheads like Florida State's Myron Rolle. That guy isn't going anywhere... except to study abroad at Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship.
- nathanwalker, on 12/08/2008, -0/+5@1google1
Which is why single elimination playoffs are used in every other sport. - Ljay90, on 12/08/2008, -5/+10Oh God, Utah vs. Alabama!?
Poor poor Utah... - TheCod, on 12/08/2008, -4/+9And I can't wait to see it.
- bigfatdummy, on 12/08/2008, -1/+6I'm a Utah fan. Now having said that, I think most Utah fans were wanting this match up. If you are not in a MWC state, my guess is you haven't seen a single Utah game this year. Why? Because the MWC have an agreement with LAME "The Mountain" TV station. ESPN can't broadcast their games.
- gametavern, on 12/08/2008, -1/+5They should really take the "***** sponsor" names off the bowls.
- gametavern, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4other aggies must be digging you down.
- SgtQuackers, on 12/08/2008, -1/+5Texas is going to destroy them.
- 1google1, on 12/08/2008, -4/+865-21
notice how you cannot conclude which team gets to go based on head to head, when there are technically 3 teams involved - MVPhurricane, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4Agreed. Completely. Wow.
- sidewinderaim9x, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4Go Boise St. At least they went undefeated.
- CreativeLinks, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4Digged up becuase I understand sarcasm :)
- nathanwalker, on 12/08/2008, -0/+4@Ljay
One word: Playoffs. - bondfreak05, on 12/08/2008, -2/+6That would have been epic.
And would have shut Texas fans up - PDAIsAOk, on 12/08/2008, -1/+5I guess Im the only person that thought Alabama was overrated. Played a weak schedule, just as Utah did, sounds like a fair matchup to me
- alexkball, on 12/08/2008, -1/+5It's impossible to determine who was most deserving. I heard that the voters were mostly going by the same criteria that the NCAA Basketball tournament selection committee uses, which is, essentially, "which team would I least like to play at this moment?"
I'm not saying that is the right way to do it, but if I were using that criterion, I would have put OU ahead of UT, too. OU is just plain nasty.
Oh, and I live in Austin, so I'm not even remotely close to being an OU fan. - emericle, on 12/08/2008, -2/+6I-O!!!
- decker12, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3#9 Boise State got screwed. They are going to destroy TCU and have yet another undefeated season where they don't get to play with the big boys in a January bowl game. ***** the BCS computer.
- emericle, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3I think the Big 10 has some of the more compelling bowl matchups this year.
Iowa, who looked outstanding towards the end of the season - vs South Carolina
Penn St should put up a better fight against USC than tOSU did (and I'm a huge buckeye fan)
Wisconsin vs Florida St will be a great game for those who love solid defense.
tOSU vs Texas - Texas wants a split National Championship, so they will be playing with something to prove
Minnesota vs Kansas - sorry, but Minnesota doesn't stand a chance
Michigan St vs Georgia - these two teams should match up pretty well, and deliver an exciting game.
man, I love college football. Bowl season is the best time of year, but it also saddens me to realize the season is coming to a close. - hawksfan03, on 12/08/2008, -2/+5Go Hawkeyes... represent in the Outback
- efitz11, on 12/08/2008, -1/+4HOKIES!
- PGPirate, on 12/08/2008, -1/+4East Carolina > Kentucky
- Ljay90, on 12/08/2008, -5/+839-33
- TheCod, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3They proved that they aren't willing to do that two years ago when Florida leap frogged Michigan to play OSU instead of a rematch between OSU and Michigan.
- daivos, on 12/08/2008, -3/+6I disagree. Texas will run Ohio State off the field, just like USC did earlier in the year. A true freshman quarterback in that spot won't go well. Pryor may turn out to be great, but he's not ready for Texas yet.
USC will destroy Penn State. Penn State didn't play anyone all year and are vastly over-rated. Be thankful they lost. They would have been embarassed in the national championship had they gone undefeated. - mountchuck, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3Maryland declined to play in the bowl game with Navy, as the university's finals are on that day, December 20th.
- Ljay90, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3We can hope.
- BayouBengal, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3Chick-Fil-A Bowl, Ramblin' Wreck vs a Wreck of a Defense. :-( I'm almost glad that LSU didn't get the Cotton to face Texas Tech. Harrell would light up that defensive backfield like no tomorrow with the way the LSU defensive backs have been playing. They at least have a legit shot against Ga Tech. EAT MORE CHIKIN!
- emericle, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3the International Bowl is played in Canada. Toronto, IIRC.
It's a smaller bowl, but it is indeed played north of the border. - roddack, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3If Texas had just won all of their games they could have avoided the three way tie problem. Which for some reason they refused to see as anything talking about how it was three one loss teams and just wanted it to be compared to them and OU since for some reason they think the loss to Tech didn't matter.
/00\ - Raesear, on 12/08/2008, -1/+4Where's Boise?
Your playoff system is still using the BCS ranking system to determine who would go. Playoffs should be based purely on record, not on polls and popularity. You can complain that this would put teams from weaker conferences at an advantage, but it doesn't matter since they have to play all the other strong teams in the playoffs.
Also, I think a 16 team playoff system would be a better fit, since Texas wouldn't make it to the 8 team playoffs without BCS rankings(same record as Tech, but they lost to them so Tech goes). Now, I'm an Aggie not a Texas fan, but they deserve to be there. A 16 team playoff system would only have one more round than an 8 team playoff for a total of 4 rounds. You have a legitimate system to determine the best team in the country, not some beauty pageant/popularity contest crap made up of polls and opinion. - nathanwalker, on 12/08/2008, -1/+4@atb12688
They still lost to UT. - Ju1c3, on 12/08/2008, -0/+3i am a huge buckeye fan. i am one of those douche bags who everyone hates.
all i can say is Boise got screwed... we(buckeyes) dont deserve a bcs bowl after our 2 losses. but ill take it. remember the 2 teams we lost to were ranked in the top 5.
give me a playoff system. 16 teams. end of controversy. -
